Vocaloid is a voice synthesizer program that takes advantage of voicebanks to create your own songs. The songs are usually in Japanese or English, but Korean, Chinese and Spanish voicebanks are also supported.
Of course, though, there are many songs in other languages using Vocaloid, too, like Italian/Latin and etc.
Outside of the songs, a lot of this "genre" I guess, have animated music videos to go with it. There are also quite a few song series in Vocaloid, such as Evillious Chronicles and Kagerou Project, to name some famous ones. Some of these songs are adapted into novels, manga and even animated series or live action TV series/movies, but this one is a rarity.
As for the voicebanks/characters themselves, there's way over eighty of them by now. Some that a lot of fans probably haven't heard of, such as CUL, Yumemi Nemu, Nekomura Iroha, and Gachapoid. There are many, many, more, however. Some of the more famous Vocaloid voicebanks are the ones I'd like to call the big 9: Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, IA, Gumi Megpoid, KAITO, MEIKO, Luka Megurine and Gakpoid. These are just many examples, because, as I've said, there's over 80. More are also still coming.
The program, itself, is on version 5 at the moment, but it costs somewhere around 300 dollars, and a lot of the voicebanks, specific ones, might I add, are separate and all have different prices.
Anyway...
What do you think of Vocaloid, as a whole?
Who is your favorite voicebank/singer?
What is your favorite song?
Who is your favorite producer?
Have you ever considered buying the software and making your own songs with it?
