Me and waterelemental are having an argument about Vulpix being able to learn Energy Ball. He says it is unfeasible that a fire pokemon can learn a grass type move. I say it is perfectly feasible, because all Vulpix is doing is gathering the energy of nature around it and using it in as an attack. We want your take on it. Is it or is it not Feasible.

Most fire-types can use solar beam. Energy ball should be no different.

Exactly. Solarbeam is used similarly to Energy Ball. Stuff types. If we cared about types, Gyarados wouldn't be using Stone Edge.

If fire types like Typhlosion, Arcanine, Houndoon and more can learn grass type moves such as Solar Beam, I see absolutely no reason why Vulpix and Ninetails shouldn't be able to learn Energy Ball. xD

Only few Fire-type Pokémon could learn Solarbeam. It was natural for them to do so, since they can also use the Sun's power (hence Sunny Day). So in Gen IV, a lot more Fire-types have now been enabled to learn SB. So, Energy Ball is safe for Fire-types to learn, like Vulpix and Ninetales. It's like saying that it's Unfeasible that Water-type Pokémon learn Ice-type moves.

Agree with the above - although it might striek one as odd that a fire type can learn a grass-type move, Solarbeam or not. But one musn't forget that this is Pokemon, where one can use a Rock-type on water, or where Wooper learns/learnt Ice Punch as an Egg move... despite the noticeable lack of arms. Whee, logic.

For me though, Vulpix with Energy Ball can make sense to me, as others have said.

    Yeah.

There using the Sun (that big ball of energy up in the sky :P) as their energy source when using these Grass-type moves.

It's just as feasible as turtles growing water cannons out their backs...

It's a game, laws of physics and chemistry don't apply in pokemon. The creators can do what they like.

Pikachu knows Surf, so why can't Vulpix learn Energy Ball?

Besides, it's just gathering energy from the sun and firing it. Simple.

My Charizard knows Solarbeam, so why not? You can try. x3
The reason why some fire types can learn grass type moves is because solar energy can easily be generated into fire. >.> Or...so I think...

    true

and also its weird how Rhydon and Rhyperior can learn Surf when its their 4x weakness

Yeah, go ask why a two-tonne piece of rock with stubby arms can swim, not how a magical fox can draw energy into a ball and fire it.

Well, since some Fire-types can use Solarbeam, why can't they learn Energy Ball? Like most pokemon, it gets energy from the sun so it can use grass moves.

Infernape can learn Grass Knot. Alakazam can learn Energy Ball. Why can't Vulpix?
