3rd Gen Wallace or Steven?

Talking from a Gen 3 perspective, I didn't really like Steven much so I'd have to go with Wallace.
However, if I approach the question based on a current perspective I'd have to go with Steven since Wallace wasn't really as interesting or involved with the story as Steven was.
I didn't find one more difficult than the other iirc but I just liked Wallace a lot more. Maybe it's because battling him as the champion in Emerald was a neat surprise.
 
I honestly perfer Wallace, that fight was crazy, smashing everyone in the elite 4 with rayquaza and then having it 1 shot killed by milotic left me speachless! only played agaist steven once in a friends ruby and it wasnt nearly as bad as wallace, maybe its just me since i also used sceptile so i could never win agaist milotic
 
I honestly liked Wallace's lineup more since it was actually a lineup that could catch an unaware player off guard. Of course, Wallace was way too easy for any Treecko starters since Sceptile could easily solo Wallace's entire team. But god dang i remember Wallace's Ludicolo who would just spam Double team if you didn't have a mon who could KO it asap.
 
As characters I think both are cool, but the bond you share with Steven during the events of r/s/e and oras make confronting him a more meaningful experience.

Both have tanks with good coverage and possess a Pokemon on their team who could cause trouble for the starter Pokemon no matter which one you chose. They also both will try tactis that wear you down.

Wallace however is knee-deep in water Pokemon, all of his pokemon are water as primary or secondary typing. This is more of the way that a gym leader would think than a champion. Water is a good defensive typing, but this does make fighting him more straightforward than Steven. Steven is a specialist, but will utilize other pokemon if they have some similarities to steel. Steven is more like Lance in the respect that Lance is a dragon master who has incorporated Pokemon on his team like aerodactyl, charizard and gyarados that resemble dragons in movepool and appearance, but belong to other categories. By concentrating more on pokemon with a subterranean and ancient theme than the exact typing Steven is a little less rigid than Wallace.

Also fighting Wallace in such close proximity to Juan makes another aquatic battle not quite as threatening. So I favor Steven, but I do acknowledge that Wallace is also very powerful.
 
100% Steven. He just has a more champion-vibe, if you know what I mean.

I love Wallace, but I just really didn't visualize him as a champ. Also, Steven gave me a harder time.

There is probably a bit of bias here too, but I obviously played R/S before E so it felt weird for Wallace to be champion. #STEVENFOREVER.
 
I played Emerald before R/S and speaking of the difficulty i found Steven to be more difficult to face than Wallace because of his high levels and diversity. But both are difficult to face.
 
I can easily defeat them both, but steven is better. His backstory is better than just lazily putting the last gym leader as champion. I'm glad they made steven champion again in ORAS.
 
It could been nice to see if you could make a poll.

I could choose Steven obviously, since we already encounter water gym just before Pokemon league.Not to mention we also battle so many swimmers as well that's why I didn't like Wallace as a champion.
 
I think, Steven is way too strong. Wallace is just a water type loser. Steven can defeat any type pokemon, but even is weak against fire type. Then also I would like Steven because he is a good trainer and has high leveled pokemons.
 
As a trainer, Steven. As a character, Wallace is more interesting to me.
 
I preferred Steven. He put up more of a fight and had more to do with the story. Every champion throughout the Pokemon series has had a pretty big role in the games, besides Wallace; who makes a 'brief' cameo during the Sootopolis situation. I don't know why they removed Steven as champion in Emerald, but I definitely think he was a much better overall character than Wallace.
 
Steven without a doubt. The Ruby and Sapphire story worked so well, and there was obviously going to be a few changes in Emerald but I don't believe this one was needed. Not a huge fan of Juan either to be honest, but I just think Wallace was a good 8th gym leader, and that's how it should've stayed. This doesn't take away from Emerald being a great game though :D
