Was it ever revealed exactly what Wally had or...

Does he just have generally weak lungs?

I was just wondering what he has since it wasn't on the bulbapedia. And I wanted to write a sadfic.

Well, Bulbapedia suggests acute bronchitis or asthma, considering his symptoms clear up in clean air, but there are any number of illnesses he could have, really. I mean, he seems a lot better towards the end of the game, so it could be something like anaemia or even just a minor anxiety disorder that stops him from going out initially.

I don't honestly think asthma is too likely. I mean, he doesn't have an inhaler or anything, and that would be an easy way of showing that he had that. Sure, he doesn't take drugs either for his condition, but...drugs, in a child-friendly game. Even legal medicinal drugs. Probably not a good idea, at least not for humans.

Well I think asthma is still very likely.

I would like to kind of point out that not everyone with asthma uses an inhaler. I gave up mine because it did nothing for me, honestly.

But I think it has to be with his lungs because it was mentioned about how he was going to Vendaturf because the air was clear, due to climate. Anemia effects you more whole body. Plus it's more fatigue than anything else, and usually clear up when certain conditions are met (IE restoring the iron needed in your body).

Though, off-topic, these means that the ashes are likely to go everywhere except for Vedanturf and I assume areas around it, like Rustboro and Mauville. So thatn little comment reveals a lot of about Hoenn's climate.

True^ I have asthma, and almost nobody can tell. It used to be really bad too, but not anymore. It's possible Wally used to have very serious asthma, and no longer needs an inhaler?

It seemed to be implied it's a lung-related condition, possibly a fictional one at that. Or simply asthma, that just never needed explanation for the most part.

That's the thing, though - anaemia clears up under certain conditions. Asthma doesn't, does it? Wally was so much healthier by the end of the game and, even if it's implied to be a lung condition, I just don't see how that can be true if Hoenn's climate is largely a mess. Getting away from Verdanturf might have done him some good, but it wouldn't have made him fighting fit. If anything, I would have thought he would have been worse by the end of the game, not better.

    You make a good point.

Asthma actually does clear up, but it takes years. But I had the additions of being fat and allergies. My allergies and asthma have went away and I've been losing weight since 2013~) but astha and allergies don't go away as quickly as I assume ORAS/ RSE storyline takes.

It may have been bronchitus, as you said, or something similar.

I can't write this sadfic if I don't know what he had. I mean, I could write it without it, but I don't want Wally to be all cleared up and happy then hit him with something without any good cause, ya know?

I do think if it's something to do with his lungs that acute bronchitis is more likely - that clears up by itself within two or three weeks, and it's not a stretch to say that travelling across the Hoenn region, and away from Mt. Chimney, would hasten his recovery and put him in much better shape - if not recovered completely - by the end of the game. Although considering he moves to Verdanturf from Petalburg, that makes his parents pretty irresponsible if that's the case...

I was thinking it was a temporary illness because he was able to travel all around Hoenn by the end of the game, and he never seemed to mention it again. Maybe just asthma that was hurt by stress or one of the other ones someone mentioned?

Remember this is the pokeon world. You can send out your five year old into the world. As long as they have a pokemon they're a-okay!

Though there' also the fact Japan has far more independent children and they'll never seem to forget that's weird in the rest of the world.

However, there's a few other things...

From what I've read, asthma can actually clear up really fast.

But here's the problem, we do not know how long the journey takes, nor do we know the actual size and scale of Hoenn.

I know I'm quoting you but it's something I'm putting out there for everyone.

I'm starting to think I may just write it based on the idea of Wally having asthma.
