Starting with generation III, the TV had a feature where you could watch shows on it. However, if you hadn't been interviewed by a reporter, the TV would have nothing on it, and would yield this message: "Mom/Dad would like to this program (lots of ellipses). Time to go!" In later generations, such as generations IV and V, shows would constantly be playing. Certain shows would mention the player or people you've mixed records with them. Generation V had a ton of variety shows like Koukan Talk and the What's That Show that would share Pokemon information within. Kalos just had a mix of those shows from Unova with some others that are new.

I believe this feature no longer exists in the Alola games... but I could be wrong?

That being said, did you watch TV in the older Pokemon games? I used to a LOT back during the times I played Sinnoh and Unova. It was just fun. Useless, and a time waster, but seeing stuff about the people I had mixed records with on in game tvs was just nice. A shame TVs went back to being just objects you can't interact with.

I think I used to go and watch the TV sometimes on and off, there would occassionally be some handy information, but I wasn't too fussed about it. It was neat tbf, instead of just having a blank screen, I guess it's another feature that made the Pokemon world more immersive :)
