They really butchered the opening for the English version. The whole point was for the silhouettes of the Pokémon to be revealed as Ash/Satoshi encountered them... And the music, well, lets just say the opening theme song for the anime has kind of sucked since Pokémon Johto.

Hey! The Advanced Generation themes did not suck! I'll give you post-Battle Frontier, though. That's when I felt the song quality started degrading...and the new theme almost seems like a culmination of such degradation...

OK, regarding the new BW opening, the Japanese theme was way better, and I'm usually a fan of the English openings. We just left the Sinnoh League Victors theme, which was slow. Coupled with the advent of a new generation, one would think we would have an more upbeat song to engage us in the new Pokemon adventures. But no...

Not only is the new theme slow (again), it's extremely short, to the point of where it ties with the horrendous-but-tolerable Digimon Data Squad theme. 30 seconds? Are you kidding me? What, so Cartoon Network can show advertisements for other shows? What happened to the days when theme songs were a minute long, more if we were lucky? I mean, 4Kids managed to come up with this masterpiece when Pokemon was starting out. And now PUSA wants to relax their efforts, at a critical time in the Pokemon series...? (the rebirth) *Sigh...* The lyrics are OK, but the tempo and length of the new BW theme are atrocious.

I was annoyed that the dubbers used all of the silhouettes as one, which as someone said before, makes the opening scenes lose part of their original meaning(s). At least they managed to incorporate the title with the lyrics this time, instead of just shoehorning it in at the end like Battle Dimension, Galactic Battle, and Sinnoh League Victors did (the first two I can tolerate; SLV just blatantly inserted its title into the lyrics, making the song sound a bit worse).

Like I said, they were supposed to do that with the Frontier Brains in the BF opening, but they didn't, only leaving Noland in full, and the rest silhouettes. This way, they aren't leaving anything half-done.

You also have to realize the Japanese opening is thrice as long as the English opening, which is only 30 secs; you would NOT get the full impact of the J!op if you kept the whole reveal silhouette thing.

So they did us a favor, by being lazy. Because I'm VERY glad there wasn't a silhouette in sight, because that silhouette would remain until we got a new opening, a hundred episodes later.

I would have laughed/been annoyed if there were lingering silhouettes that stayed in the opening for 100 episodes. But honestly, does PUSA have to be that lazy to the point where they don't want to slowly reveal the silhouettes in the opening? I agree, unveiling all of the Pokemon at once is better than leaving the unveiling unfinished, but PUSA's choice still doesn't sit well with me. If they actually took time to update the opening's silhouettes accordingly, it would seem like they care a bit more about this long-running anime... But they just took the easy way out with the opening. At least it doesn't look like one of those annoying Pokemon AMVs...
I wonder what PUSA would have done if there were still silhouettes in the opening come April or May? I hope we get a much faster and longer theme next season; the new one just isn't cutting it.

it's always hard when the journey begins,
Ash how long have you been doing this?
hard to find your way, hard to make new friends.
If it's so hard keep Brock and Misty
but there's nothing you can't do
Well why did you lose to Trip?
cause you've got the power inside of you!
sure you do...
it's not always black and white
Well of course its not always black and white
but your heart always knows what's right
lol
it's not about win or lose,
Well you need to beat all 8 gym leaders and win the Unova League so winning does matter lol
it's the path you choose,
path? your path has always been the same, to become a pokemon master but you've failed.
let the journey begin! pokemon!
Yes another journey Ash.

Japanese openings are always better in my opinion. They're longer, the opening theme (even though I can't understand it) is usually catchy and it's just more diverse in the sense. The English opening for Black and White was basically the same as Best Wishes, but shorter - and yes, badly chopped up. The song wasn't so half bad. Kind of cheesy, but then again, when isn't a Pokémon theme song in English not cheesy in its own way?

I'm at least glad they didn't use cut scenes for the opening. They're usually spoiling to the audience, plus I actually liked this style opening. So, I'm glad they at least kept that, even if it was just portions put together. ):

I ROFL'd at your first three comments and the later comment about "It's not about win or lose"...

But I don't think the lyrics are supposed to be exactly accurate, though... After all, Ash "said" he was Unbeatable and look how that turned out...
