What on earth are you talking about? Roller Coaster Tycoon has worked fantastically on every version of Windows I've used since Windows 98. In fact, it's installed on both my Windows Vista laptop and my Windows 7 desktop and I've beaten a few of the early parks.

DFUYSGHIYHEKYEGIGE seriously?! WHAT IS YOUR SECRET! Don't mess with me here, man. If there is a chance I could play Roller Coaster Tycoon (the original, mind you, not 2 or 3!) on a modern OS, I need to know it!!!

I looked everywhere online, NOBODY KNOWS HOW TO MAKE IT WORK ON MODERN OS's!!

I just ran the installer and it cooperated. And, testing just now on both of my computers (Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional) it still works. Just remember to save often just in case it happens to be prone to crashing to the desktop.

That said, I've also gotten 2 and 3 to work on these as well.

Some games that predate Windows 95, however, I have yet to get working. And The Movies refuses to install for me on Vista or 7 because apparently it has compatibility issues with newer versions to the point where Windows itself tells me it won't work before I even run the installer, even though I'm pretty sure it would run just fine.

The original game was buggy?

Games pre-Windows 95, and some games after that are 16-bit only and will refuse to run in 64-bit environments. This is caused by the CPU and hence the operating system being unable to run 16-bit code in 64-bit mode. Locked in, huh?

It wasn't buggy at all, but it might be more prone to crashing in a 64-bit environment.

It was a little buggy when I tried it on my 7 laptop. But what bothered me is that I could only play it on a 640x440 window when my resolution was 1280x800. xD

What sucks on my netbook is the 600 vertical resolution... since most games I run have 800 pixels of vertical resolution...

And our uni was very much against running routers using our dorm internet connections... some of my friends got fined for having a router...

Speaking of crashing, did anyone else hear about that military helicopter crash recently? It's all the news is talking about.

Investigation still pending? Yeah, Washington. Two Warriors and four soldiers wasted.
Wonder what it's like to lose relatives like that. It was a training mission on top of everything...

I can give a list of games that won't work on modern os's.

MechWarrior 3
Heavy Gear 2 (Well, it works but you have to use Windows ACT for it to)
Gearhead Garage (Works just barley on XP. With luck and no sound it will run on Vista, no luck for 7 though)
Starcraft Blood War (Well, it works, but most of the before game graphics are all screwed up.)
Megaman X5 (It works, but the game is sped up to about 5-10x time. Impossiable to play)

I get various graphic errors on most other old games as well. And most of the old games refuse to start the first time, have to tell it to start twice for it to work. And yes, I know that most of my list is obscure games that almost no one plays.

I love Windows 7, but not being able to play some of those old games is a definite drawback. Thankfully, most of the games that I want to play work at least reasonably well, so it's not too much of a hassle to me.

I haven't tried RCT2 yet though...that was like my favorite game back in the day.

RCT2 works fine for me on 7. Might just be luck, but I don't even need to run it in comparability mode.

I'm using Home Premium so it might have issues with other versions, but I doubt it.

I had RCT2, played that a lot on my comp. (it had Vista) then one day it stops working and I lose all the discs.

And it sucks, I loved playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and I was forced to compensate and play the first Roller Coaster Tycoon game, which is cool, but god...Station Brake Failure breakdowns were so dang evil...*shudders*

RCT2 wasn't a big jump from the original, but I loved the fact that they made things more realistic (in terms of proportions, height, speed, etc.) and fine-tuned a lot of stuff. I had a hard time going back to the original after playing RCT2.

RCT3 was just...ew though.

RCT2 was a fun game, but I never got into it. I played it for a few hours a week when I was bored with Sins, or couldn't find a cops/robbers or zombie match on Halo.

The issues with Brood War can be fixed by buying the updated version included in the Starcraft Battlechest, I've found.

One way I got around those was to only ever have a single train on the coaster, make the queue lines huge, and make the train itself pretty large.

My favorite things about 2 were the coaster builder and the the scenario builder.

Well, I thought there'd be a Windows version of Sim City 2000, but I can only find a DOS version. So I have to use DOSbox. At least I can also play it on the Wii so all is cool. I also have another game that refuses to run because it appears I need DirectX6, and I have the latest version. Weirrrrrrrrrd.

And no, I haven't heard about that crash. I never heard it on the news, but I might hear about it on the National News.

Hmm...

The Windows version of Sim City 2000... there are two versions, I think? One for 3.x and another for 95, and to run it on a 64-bit system at all you'll need the latter. It works fine but for animated palettes it's best to run it in 8-bit colour. (Right click shortcut> Properties)

You know, when you program for 32-bit, lots of things are solved. Huh.

The game wasn't meant to run in newer OSes, but try setting compatibility settings.
