What Are You Thankful For? [Technology Edition]

    what are some of the technological advancements and capabilities we have today that you really appreciate and wanna give a shoutout to? it can be general like being able to communicate with far away friends and family easily, or more specific and situational, e.g. i'm thankful that i no longer have to speak to anyone when ordering food. food ordering apps in my place have contactless delivery options available and i can get stuff to my doorstep within minutes and without a single hitch. gone are the days of laggy websites or having to wait 20 minutes for someone to pick up in the delivery hotline.
     
    Gosh there is so much that I'm thankful for when it comes to tech, my job, my relationship, my friends, all stemmed from technology in some way.
    If I had to pick just one I'd say the easy access to information thanks to the internet. I first got into programming because I had access to documentation and blog posts on the internet, which gave me the kickstart I needed to give me the confidence to get a qualification in the field.
     
    I'm honestly thankful that technology is so incredibly accessible now. Back in the day when the newest computers for home use were $1500 to $2000 it was a luxury to have a home PC. Now, a desktop computer that can do the basics can just cost you a few hundred, if that. Adjusting for Canadian inflation and using an actual flyer, a computer that cost $1500 in 2000 would equate to $2216 today, or if you got an iMac G3 in 1998, which was $1999 CAD at launch would equate to $3040 today. Or, for something more recent, I bought a 8GB USB in 7th grade (07-08) and it cost me $40. Today, an 8GB USB is worth less than $5. The entry level of cost has been overcome and made much more accessible, which has helped in so many ways today.
     
    i'd just like to be thankful for the ability to have multiple screens because the productivity and multitasking boost you get from more than one monitor is absolutely nuts.

    Instead of alt-tabbing to the other window you can just... turn your head. And I love that so much.
     
    I was reading something earlier that said "YouTube originally only offered videos at 240p or 360p". I'm glad almost everything is high quality now.

    It was fine for the small square monitors of the time. I vaguely remember that era as a kid, watching 144p Pokemon/Counter Strike videos in shoddy internet cafes. It didn't affect my viewing experience at all.
