4th Gen What do you think the D/P Pokemon's English names will be?

Not open for further replies.
I think that's a good hunch there Cowrie, plus it's evolved stage has 'game' at the end of it's name, and Wartortle's jap. name has 'game' at the end, so T-L-E makes sense for the ending of the name. And sprout, well of course! Haha, my point? Good guess :D

I thought at first that the thread would end last time you posted this, but some of those do NOT work (Elophy, Regigig, Creslee, etc). Quite a few do, though.

'Game' is the compound of the word 'kame' meaning turtle.
As for Sheimi, now that you mention it, legendary Pokémon don't usually change their names in translation (except the birds), and Sheimi isn't exactly a hard-to-pronounce name...

A few of These have english ones like

Tamanta = Mantyke
Diaruga = Dialga
Parukia = Palkia
Gonbe = Munchlax
Manyula = Weaivle
Buizeru = Buizel
Manafi = Manaphy
Manene = Mime Jr.
Usochai = Bonsly

Only A few have actually had there name chagned completely

Here are some I think that they could be:

Aruseus = Aljupite (Al from Aresues and Jupiter Roman Version of Zeus)
Elebikuru = Elecable (Cable sounds like Japanese Bikuru)
Jibacoil = Magnecoil (Goes with Magne for all of that evo line and has coil at the end)
Sheimi = Sheime ( Nintendo Usually changes "mi" to "me")
PorigonZ = PorigonZ(No difference)
Buuburn = Magpyro (Seems weird for them to have burn since they changed Magmar from Buubu or something like that)

Buuba -> Magmar
Buubi -> Magby
Therefore, Buuburn would logically be Magburn, I think.
Does anyone think that Porygon the Third will actually be called Porygon3? Others think X, or maybe the original Z (z-axis denotes an extra dimension (like Pokémon XD!)). What does everyone think?

I find the English versions of the Legendary Pokemon names a little difficult to pronounce. It doesn't mean I don't like the names though.

And if anyone doesn't like the names, you could just give the Pokemon a better name. That's why you can give them nicknames.

Actually, I think the name Lucario is okay, but I don't really like the name Chatot. The name Perap was better, although that was actually the Japanese name. I don't know what's wrong with the name Murkron, it sounds okay to me. I'm completely unsure about ideas for English names for the starters, as I don't know or can't find any good idea for their English names. Someone thought that Naetle's English name would be Seedling, but it doesn't sound like a Pokemon name and it is a word used in real life. I don't think the name Elekible should be changed when it reaches the US, it sounds perfect to me. But, ah, here are some more English name ideas:

Mitsuhoney - Honeybea
Leafia - Leafieon
Glacia - Glacieon
Doomiraa - Domirror
Jibacoil - Magnecoil
Mojanbo - Tangelaro

Primape is a word used in real life.

Actually, 'Primeape' (The Pokémon's name) is based off the real word, 'Primate', if thats what youre talking about, right?

Hikazauru-Mo(Monkey)zaru
Naetoru -Nat(Tree)zle
Pochama-Pen(Penguin)ma

Yeah a little stupid but mostly US names are stupid.

Fixed my list.

Kuraseria is Creslia. (crescent + sleek + Romanized Japanese)
Fione is Maraphy (mar [Spanish for sea] + Manaphy)
Floatsel is Floazil (changed due to Buizil)

And I'm stuck on Regigigas. Either:

Regiant (regi [Latin for king] + giant)
or
Reginorm (regi [Latin for king] + normal)

Which is better of the two?

...Neither. I think Regigiga(s) is good as-is.

And...I don't know if it belongs here (or even if it's news), but the name Poketch is confirmed for the English version.

Here's something I posted on PFU, where I gave some of my predictions. Not all of them are serious though, as you will soon find out:

Alakazam said:
I'm kind of wondering if any of my names will make the cut, XD. No one will believe me if I don't post them before the games are released, so guess what this entry is for? =D

A few might actually be right. That Fighting-Steel Type who got the movie, for instance. I'm pretty sure I know what his English name will be. =P

As you may see, some names weren't that well thought up, mostly because I am not too interested in the Pokemon in question. So, suggestions for better names will be welcome. ^_^

Okay, here goes:

Dodaitosu = Contazaur

Goukazaru = Flamate

Empelt = Pengperor

Mukuhawk = Mukuhawk =P

Beadaru = Nickverl

Corotokku = Kitissia

Roentorar = Roarkin

Roserade = Roselizard

Floasel = Bouysel

Cherrym = Maraschino

Tritodon = Swampsire

Eteboss = Monkerpunch

Fuwaraido = Fugglypuff

Mimilop = PlayBunny

Murmage = Shadowich

Donkarasu = Murkraven

Bunyatto = SpiralKat

Skuntank = SuperStinker

Doutakun = Metawannabe

Perap = Chatot. I am feeling pretty confident on this one =D

Mikaruge = Paintocatch

Gaburias = Flyclone

Lucario = Lucario, of course. Just you wait, I'll be right!

Kabarudon = Fuglapotamus

Drapion = Spwnpion

Dokurog = Toadodile

Muscukippa = Flytrappa

Neoranto = Fischie

Yukinoh = Yukinooh

Weavile = Weavile, most likely. May think of a better one later.

Jibacoil = Magnegrande

Beroberuto = BeerBellio

Dosidon = Grandonite

Mojanbo = MumboJumbo

Elekibble = Electazouch

Booburn = Magwar

Togekiss = Togemite

PorygonZ = Porygon3

Elblade = Gardeguy

Dainose = Stalinpass (Thanks, Sean =P )

Yonowahru = Psychoclops

Yukimenoko = Gallie

Rotomu = Wattlock

And Legendaries get to keep their names of course. =D

Fact is, those with a good Japanese pronounciation would say it only subtly different.

Diaruga was never pronounced "Die-a-roo-ga", it was ALWAYS Dee-a-rrr-ga (closest Japanese pronounciation approximation), or "Dialga".

Yeah, my Japanese pronounciation isn't that good. For instance, I always mispronounced DNAngel's Daisuke as "Die-sue-kay" (it's a bit hard to say in typing) instead of "Die-skay".

I do hope we get all the English names so I could avoid any more confusion.
