What if Ash did wake up on time?

I think they didn't want to seem to be favoring a certain starter. If they did, everybody would be going around naming their Trainer "Ash" and choosing Squirtle. >.>
 
At first I went with the whole Squirtle thing too, but then I thought about Gary. He probably would've gotten his Pokemon first, don't you think? After thinking about it, I honestly think Ash would've ended up with Bulbasaur as his starter (I think Bulbasaur was his 2nd choice).

^Bulbasaur was his second choice if I do remember correctly. The anime might not have been so different if Ash woke up on time, but the storyline might have been altered just a bit. xD
 
I guess squirtle. But I think it would be cool if he had been the first one there, and got an eevee as a prize. XP(epic eevee fan)
 
If Ash was early but got an Eevee instead? I don't know what I would say, as I think Ash would be one of the phew who wouldn't evolve it xD Though...Ash with Squirtle as his main starter, I could really picture that now. :)
 
Depends. Did he beat Gary to the lab? His choices were as follows: Squirtle, Bulbasaur, then Charmander. It just depends who he had beaten. Hell, he may have woken up on time and everyone else still could've beaten him. If he woke up on time, I suppose he wouldn't have to rush through the forest on a bike for his life, meaning he never would've met Misty there, and then Pikachu wouldn't have blown up the Pokémon Center, meaning Team Rocket wouldn't be after him.

In conclusion, if Ash woke up on time, the plot would either be completely different or non-existant.​

That is actually a good fact. If he wasn't late, none of what happened now would have certainly not happened. xD
 
They would also have a basic new mascot for the franchise as well.
 
I wouldn't say Ash doesn't need a battling Pokémon, as it might have made him win a lot more battles than he already did. Though, Bulbasaur would have helped a lot in quite a few of his Gym Battles, well.
 
You know, basically there would just be a lot of different outcomes in the anime and Ash's journey if he was on time xD If he had gotten early, we don't know if he would have gotten there early enough and if he did, then who knows what would have happened after. There would have been a different storyline, that's for sure. (Well, maybe xD).
 
I think it'd be cool if he did wake up on time and got Squirtle, so long as he never evolved him past Wartortle cause Blastoise sucks. Wartortle fo'Life!

But he would have had to have a starter Pokemon first. =/ Everything just mixes up for the worse....
 
Well, let's assume that Ash didn't overslept and did make it in time. Who says that he would be the first pick. There are also three other trainers, including Gary. This means that Ash has as much chance of getting a Squirtle as anyone of the other three.

It would be extremely different with the transition of Squirtle taking Pikachu's spot as mascot. I just couldn't imagine a Squirtle holding onto a ketchup bottle; it just doesn't click in my head, sorry.
 
we are just speculating but look at this if ash choose first i think gary would do what all the rivals in all the games do just so he can beat ash. anyway i feel that gary always had the squirtle locked since gary and Prof oak. so then Ash and Bulbasaur
 
Ash would get Pikachu no matter what. It wasn't that the little rat was the only Pokemon left, it was because Oak knew that Ash had to get that Pikachu.

My reasoning comes from Pokemon 4ever, XD. Little Samuel Oak saw both trainer and Pokemon forty years before that day when Ash slept in. So, in order to not alter the timeline, Oak gave Ash a Pikachu. =P
