This is something that has been argued about and debated quite alot. Is a master someone who beats the championship? Someone who has all the Pokemon? According to the anime, at least, these cannot be right, as Ash has won the orange league and battle frontier, but is not a Master, and catching certain Pokemon (such as legendaries) has been shown as wrong. So, what is a Pokemon master?

I do believe initially all one had to do was win the Indigo League and the title of "Pokemon Master" would be yours. However, since the creation of many more regions since that time, it is my understanding that one receives this title after constantly winning many tournaments and competitions. I suppose what I'm trying to get at would be something like a returning champion. That would be a "Pokemon Master" in my book.

Then again, this is all speculation on my part. A "Pokemon Master" could simply be a trainer who has completely mastered the art of training Pokemon. It could be an "in the eye of the beholder" type of situation as well.

I thought that it was something to do with catching all the Pokemon in the world, by whatever means.

Any trainer beating the Elite Four gains the title of champion. I think the notion of being a 'Pokemon master' is nothing but a plot device to keep Ash prancing about his eternal journey.

When you master Pocket Monsters, what else?

Jokes aside, I think it's when you master any skill in the Pocket Monster world, in my opinion. It doesn't have to be catch 'um all, or... beat the league, etc. I just see it as a title when you've mastered something within the Pocket Monster world. Many would probably disagree, but that's just my way of looking at it.

    That's Simple.
    Pokemon Master:
Some one who is recognized as a Pokemon Master.

I'll have to say that a 'Pokemon Master' is someone whose beaten all Elite Four's and all normal tournaments in each and every region.

And after over ten years of the franchise, Pokemon has only generated enough regions to cover 30% of Japan. See here.
Considering each and every Pokemon world region would be of similar size and covering every landmass on Earth, is it even possible for a trainer to travel the world, conquering each and every tournament?

Pokemon Master is my title. Deal with it.

XD Seriously, I think a Pokemon Master to be someone who is world renown and with the capabilities to make some of the best "professional" trainers look like n00bs in comparison. Comparing it to the real world, Michael Jordan would be a "Basketball Master."

Notice I said "a," not "the." I believe there can be more than one Pokemon Master, as is also the case with basketball.
