What is the most used type move Pokemon?

Since most Pseudo Legendary Pokemon are Dragon type and many people like using Pseudo legendary now, I think Dragon types are mostly used.

In-game I think it would be water, because there are water routes which are the only routes that are pretty much required to only have water-type trainers (swimmers), and then there are a lot of fishermen.

Competitively? I would guess either Dragon or Steel because both are pretty strong types.
 
Offensively, Water, ,Dragon, Fighting, Ground and Fire tend to be the most used types because of their great type coverage. Defensively, it's Steel because of its numerous resistances.

I did see a lot of Japanese using Steel types during Random Matchup, I beat like 2 of them using Volcarona.
 
Water is easily up there for in-game, as most games have a lot of them. Furthermore most games have a reliance on surfing and also performing other water moves like Waterfall/Dive/Whirlpool, so with Surf and possible Waterfall being fine attacking moves as well a water Pokemon makes sense. Plus you have the whole ~ 1/3 people choosing the water starter as well.

Dragons I suppose are popular because... well, they're dragons. They're basically regarded as that cool rare Pokemon that can hurt a lot of stuff - no wonder they are in demand.
 
I agree with bobandbill, Water-types are well represented in our teams as well as a lot of people choose the Water Starters as they're easier to train (except Piplup).

And yes, I found using Dragon-types very fun. I really cherish my Hydreigon and she just literally slays almost everything in the Battle Subway. I also love my Reshiram, my fave Legendary.

I see Psychic, Ground and Fighting Pokemon often represented cos of type coverage and that Psychic-types can learn a lot of good attacks, most Psychics have access to Thunderbolt and Energy Ball.

And Fire-types too, especially Infernape cos that thing is fast and has good attacks too. I think that's why so many people choose Chimchar in DPPt.

Steel-types are often seen a lot on Defensive teams.

Flying-types are also popular because most can learn Fly for convenience.
 
I disagree, actually, with those that said water (of course speaking from a competitive POV). For one thing, Gyarados, Starmie & Rotom-W are the only offensively based water Pokemon in OU (other than Cloyster) while the others are bulkier (unless specs toed or something) and made to support the team-mates rather than have this amazing offensive prowess. Idk, I think it's about even between offense and defense, at least from an OU standpoint.

I'd definitely say steel is most common, since there's 10 in OU, with dragons being next at six.

Also, anyway, I use steel offensively in my teams and generally they do pretty well (Heatran & Scizor), so I don't think steel's role is to always necessarily be defensive. Rest I agree with!
 
Steels, waters and dragons are the most common types I find and use.

Steels are swarming in OU with pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Skarmory and Scizor.

Waters are ever so present now due to Drizzle Politoed.

Dragons - Dragons are in like every team with pokemon like Hydreigon, Latias/Latios, Dragonite and Salamence.
 
Well it depends on the stage of game play, earlier, it's most normal, or water
Later, it's dragon and psychic (that applies to competitive battling too)
 
I can't speak for competitive battling, or for other battlers in general: just me. I like to have at least one Water, Fighting and Electric critter in my team at all times. Water for Surf (both in- and out-of-battling); Fighting because of its general powerhouse nature; Electric because Water-types are ridiculously common, and I don't use Grass critters.
 
Fire or fighting.
Not sure about fire, but I seen it in every single team. As for fighting, fighting moves can be used by a lot of Pokemon. and also useful to killing those pesky dark-types.
but sadly, snorlax too.
 
In-game is where Water seems to be the most prevalent. Just look at major boss battles. You have Misty, Lorelei (I know she's Ice, but her team consists of a good number of Water types), Misty again in gen II games, Wallace, Wake, and o lol no Water guys in Unova! Finally toned it down, thank God. But even still, Water types are just everywhere. I'm glad they finally toned it down in gen V though. From a competitive stand point, I agree with Nica. Steel is everywhere. I don't do competitive myself, but from watching competitive battling videos, Skarmory, Metagross, Ferrothorn, they all make a lot of appearances.
