I know. It's a truly awesome OS.

How do you bloat windows? It must be easy because that thing runs like slugs in no time. You probably have to install that thing once ever 3 months or something just to have run normally for year. You only have to install Linux once and it's fast for the life of the computer. Windows has like 5000 times more virus then all other OS. What does that tell you?

How is Solaris compared to Linux because I was going to try it but Sun never answered my Email?
How do you bloat Windows? By sticking tons of unnecessary programs and processes on there. If you're careful about what you install, you're fine. Only the unmanly bloat it that badly.

Windows has 5000 times more viruses? What does that tell you? I'll tell you what that tells me. That tells me that Windows is 5000 times more popular than other OSes, because virus writers target the most popular OSes. It's nothing to do with security of the OS itself. Remember, Linux is open source; a good, manly coder can actually look through the source code to find vulnerabilities to exploit. Viruses exist for every platform - yes, even your mobile phone. There are just more Windows ones in the wild, because so many people use Windows. If Linux was the most popular OS, there'd be more Linux viruses than anything else.

Solaris is just a different flavour of Unix. *shrugs* Why would Sun answer your email anyway? Why would you think you were manly enough to get a reply from one of the biggest companies out there?

It's called customer service and Windows is unsafe because of all those Virus. Popularity isn't everything.

Did you even read what I just posted? It's a cycle. Windows may be unsafe because of the viruses, but the viruses are there because Windows is so popular. It's not about "OMG LINUX IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN WINDOWS BECAUSE IT'S SO SAFE OMGOMGOMGOMG EVERYONE SHOULD USE LINUX!!!!11!!1!!!!!!" Because if everyone uses Linux, the virus writers will WRITE for Linux.

I know. The more popular a OS is the more Virus are written for it.

I say we should all go back to the simple times off windows 2000

stable OS. Sort off. Cheaper. You know you want to go back to it :p

I do. Err, I mean, I am. Uhh, have. Yeah. >_<

Viruses exist for every platform - yes, even your mobile phone.

LOL, I remember reading about this proof-of-concept virus for cell phones that propagated through Bluetooth... and they had to test it in a Faraday cage so that the virus couldn't accidentally spread to the phone of some random passerby. Scary, isn't it?

Well but still if Linux would be as popular as Windows is... there would not be that many viruses as in windows because everybody just hate windows!!!

You know what Windows says. An annoyed and angry employee is a fast and productive employee.

Well, you know what an annoyed and angry moderator is? An annoyed and angry moderator is a moderator prone to issuing warnings, infractions and bans.

I lol'd at ^. Anyways, yes, windows is awesome if you know what you're doing, which I think I specified before. Some people get on the internet and they go "Oh! Popup! *Click*" or "Oh! A program to make my pointer look like it's on fire! *Click*" This leads to viruses and a lot of unnecessary crap everywhere, which kills performance.

If you refrain from downloading the little shiny things that pop up on the screen, or from downloading those little programs that make everything look cute or cool or whatever, your computer will function correctly. You can also turn off/uninstall applications, programs, and/or things that run in the background that you don't really need to further increase performance.

I only installed 2 programs and it broke the net.

I've also been using xp with another os - SuSe linux, well mostly i use linux and it's been five years now and xp works well for me too.. :D

On my other computer XP is slow. I'm using Linux on this one though.

GS is right.. you may give us some specifications of your 2 computers..

The one with linux is a brand new computer and the other is 2 years old and I bought it as a rebuilt.

Well this may be the reason why on the other pc you xp is slow and on the another one Linux works well.. :)
