4th Gen What keeps you training?

I'm just trying to get as many level 100 Pokemon as possible. So far, I have Dragonite, Togekiss, Gengar, Infernape, Vaporeon at level 100. A lot of others are in the 90s and 80s. It's pretty close. I'm not EV training so it will take quicker. I battle the trainers in the Battleground, go up against the Elite Four, battle my rival, etc. Sometimes, I take a break and do contests or go underground. I change up the roster a little bit each time one gets to level 100. Some that are close to level 100 are Floatzel (1 more level), Porygon Z, Mr. Mime, Charizard, etc.

I just train to be the best that I can possibly be and have lots of pokemon for fun and to not get bored witht he same ones.

Training your pokemon is not fun at all. I don't mind facing other trainers, but leveling up with wild pokemon drives me crazy. The only reason why I do it is so I can win the game.

What keeps me training mine is trying to evolve my team.
Just went through an all nighter figuring out that the one i was focusing on doesnt evolve xD

It's just fun knowing that you raised your little guy and then throughout the days you get this big, ugly, giant thing that dominates all. :p

The motivation to get stronger and to feel the sweet sensation you get when you reach a goal; yet dies out all to soon.

That said, I do it over the coarse of time. I won't grind all to much within that day, but rather, spread it out over a week or a month when I know I have the time and patience. To me, putting it all into one day is far too tedious for my liking.

I do it because I enjoy seeing my pokemon reach lvl 100. That and because I want to make my team for WiFi, although I know it's probably going to get crushed :/

It's going to take forever to get my team into the 100s, especially since some are only lvl 51 :(

It's fun to train them though.

Do I like to battle? Of course I like to battle.

But that's not my main motivation. Pokemon is a meditative thing for me. It's what I use to chill out. Maybe Slowbro isn't the best Pokemon to counter the new offensive thing in the metagame. But you know what? Just seeing him be able to get out there and do his thing is a wonderful feeling.

Besides that, the best feeling that I ever get from Pokemon is that one moment in a battle where I realize that he is doing exactly what he was born to in exactly the way that I planned and gaining me victory. That's magic. The battle itself is fun, but it's that feeling fo somewhat-nostalgic peace that I strive for.

This. Like exactly. Pokemon battling is a way for me to relax. Sure, I don't battle much, but when I do it's just relaxing yet exciting...if that makes sense...

It totally makes sense and what you and Chronic said and agree on is definitely a lightning rod for motivation.

I like Pokemon. I like that I can vanish into the cartridge of Pokemon Pearl and become the next great Pokemon trainer: Lief. And not worry about anything in my real world or anything at all because for that half hour or hour that I play all that I am is that Trainer.

It's really stupid sounding but Pokemon gives me freedom.

I really do it just for the thrill i get from seeing my pokemon grow together as team. It really is exciting to think "wow, I did this. I raised these pokemon as they are" also the battles really get me pumped up sometimes :P

It isn't stupid sounding at all, at least not to me and Jazz Man. ^_^

@PokeBabe: First off, your UN is awesome. Second, yeah, I like that too. When I do battle, it's not about winning to me. It's about seeing how well my team is working together. It's funny, when I focus on what I've got going on instead of what my opponent's doing; worrying about 'will he switch to this' or 'will he counter with that,' I win more. That's the only reason that I battle, it adds another way to get this feeling of togetherness, I suppose, that you wouldn't have otherwise.

What keeps me training?

My loss record.

I train them because I get attached to them when I have them for a while. Everyone of them is unique to me and I give everyone a nickname (this is one of the reason why I never clone Pokemon for myself though I don't mind if others give me cloned ones) it is also very satisfying to see how strong they've become after a while and how well the team goes together.
Of course the attachement and all comes from what was said above. When I play the games I put myself in the shoes of the player. It's much fun to dream oneself in a game or a show etc. Just looking at it from outside isn't fun, I want to be part of it. this is also the reason why I don't like to breed for natures much X_x. Because it'd be kinda mean of me just to breed them to get certain kind of nature xD. (sounds nerdy.)
But of course I also train because I want to evolve certain Pokemon. I normally don't train to beat the game: As a result I'm always horribly underlevelled when I face the top 4.

Like Chronic said, it isn't stupid sounding at all. It lets you be someone you aren't and see the world (or the Pokemon world at least) from a different point of view for an hour or so. Most people don't see it this way, so it's nice to know there are some people that feel the same way (you and Chronic, for example)

Pokémonland is much simpler than the real world lol. In Pokémonland as long as you follow the rules and are capable of solving simple puzzles everything turns out ok in the end.

I wish the real world was so easy lol. Some how I doubt Gordon Brown is going to have a battle with some magic animals and then everything will just be ok if he wins, and if he doesnt he can just try again etc.

In terms of battling over WiFi I just like to see my favourite Pokémon win for me.

I train for competitive battling and and to beat the battle fronteir
