What's your first pokemon game you bought and played?

My first Pokemon game I every got was Pokemon Diamond for Christmas, along with a Nintendo DS Lite. My Favorite Pokemon game later became Platinum. (Which I am currently Nuzlocking) The first Pokemon game I got with my own money was as recent as Pokemon X.

It was September of 1998, and I was on the hype train early. I was 11 and bought Pokemon Red with my own money that I saved. It was one of my first gameboy games, and gameboy was the first system I owned. I think that's why I'm 26 and still adore Pokemon.

First Pokemon: Totodile
First Legendary: Lugia

First one i've bought was Emerald, and the first one i played was my cousins' Yellow.
Non of them is my favorite, kinda weird.

My first Pokémon experience belongs to Generation II: Pokémon Silver which I played on my green Game Boy Color. I'm sure my parents were the ones to buy me both, with the help of my grandparents (they weren't and still aren't a cheap indulgence!). Though, relevant to the original question as I reread it: the first Pokémon game that I bought for myself was probably Generation III: Pokémon Ruby.
