I've restarted the games so much, but to be honest, here they are by generation.

R/B: Squirtle (though Bulbasaur was my starter in the first save of Blue I beat, since my original file was deleted).
G/S: Totodile
R/S: Treecko
D/P: Turtwig

I have a trend of avoiding the fire type, it seems.
 
Red-Charizard
Blue-Bulbasaur
Sapphire-Torchic
Crystal-Cyndaquil
And when I start playing Diamond, its gonna be Turtwig. The only water starter I liked was squirtle. And Empoleon just reminds me of the giant penguin off of Billy Madison... so yeah. (No offense to giant penguin lovers:))

R/S/E - Mudkip
D/P/P - Piplup (though I restarted and switched to Chimchar before getting too far.)

I know I used all of them one for each game though

Diamond- Piplup but decided to go with Chimchar a little bit later on.

I kinda got the fire type starters for the whole gen, I don't know what it is but the fire types just seem like they're the best out of the four groups(IMO).

1st gen: Charmander
2nd gen: Cyndaquil
3rd gen: Torchic
4th gen: Chimchar
 
-First ever starter was a Cyndaquil. Unfortunately, it no longer exists.
-First starter when I got an advance was Charmander in Firered. I later cloned it in Emerald and it no leads a double life in Firered and Pearl.
-Can't remember what my first R/S/E starter was...I'll just take a guess and say it was Mudkip. Whatever it was, it either no longer exists, or its made a home in my Firered.
-Piplup was the first starter I got on my DS games (like the Cyndaquil, it no longer exists).
