I don't know why, but I've always been fond of having entirely one-gender teams/completley even teamsd (i.e. three male three female). I've done it in every single Pokemon game I've ever had.
Chikorita was my first 2nd Gen Pokemon EVER. I still remember playing Pokemon Gold in my uncle's house in Australia Christmas morning.

I'm trying to create a main team that won't involve trading for my first run-through of the game (no Hoenn/Sinnoh Pokemon, basically). But I'm also trying to create a team for ane entire runthrough with my favorites... but that will depend on whether or not I can find someone on the forums that can donate one or two.

This list is probably going to change for various reasons:
Typhlosion (he's staying no matter what)
Mamoswine
Raichu
Pidgeot (or maybe Togekiss if I feel up to it... Togekiss can learn Fly, right? I have a hard time believing a human can ride on it. Then again, so can Pikachu...)
Poliwrath (or Kingler... or maybe even Quagsire)
Umbreon (maybe)

If I have time/patience for the Pokewalker thing, I may also change the list, since I don't really understand the whole thing. : P

If I put my pokewalker in my backpack during school though this may vary, perhaps switching out bronzong. Darkrai goes away when I am competing of course.
 
I plan on my heart gold team being:
Typhlosion
Umbreon
Starmie (because they were all on my original gold team)
Electivire
gengar
honchkrow (subject to change most likely)
 
I go the game for my birthday, so I only have

Bayleef
Flaafy
Ledyba
Goldeen
Geodude(HM slave)
Togepi
 
i know i will start with cyndiaquill, and ill get houndoom as well. and eventually get my charizard up in there :D
 
my team was awful when i took on the elite four:
Typhlosion
Ampharos
Nidoking
Dewgong

i beat lance, but then i started a new game xD
 
I've been playing HeartGold for a while, but haven't recently played, due to other things that needed my attention, but at current my team consists of:

Meganium (I told myself I would pick Chikorita for my Japanese HG playthrough)
Ampharos (who wouldn't be able to resist such a cute Pokemon? xD )
Dragonair (I picked up Dratini from the Game Corner and thought I'd train it, for a change... xD )
Growlithe (I keep missing the days when Fire Stones are in the Pokethlon store... >_<; )
Lapras (I believe I mentioned this somewhere before-- maybe my blog? Couldn't resist Lapras. ^^ )
Noctowl (my flyer, but I have a seventh Pokemon I can't quite remember that I've been using more than Noctowl... I'll have to pop back when I remember... )

Naturally, the Pokemon who can use Cut, Rock Smash and other such HM Pokemon are all interchangeable in my team; I tend to prefer not carrying them around with me all the time though, because then I start to have random levelled Pokemon when I get to the Pokemon League...
 
Well ... i started SoulSilver a few days ago (not actually played much these days) but i decided to go trough Johto with my Feraligatr only ... :]
Well i do have some other pokemon for HM moves ... but i never use them - unless there is a double battle :P
Its quite an adventure though ... you should try an only starter playthrough. Its really a good experience for some advanced trainers.

But after i get to Kanto i will get some other pokemon on my team ...
PS: Im entering the Radio Tower right now where i will have to fight all those annoying weak rocket grunts and then Lambda :P
My feraligatr(bloo!) is at lvl48 ...

My team Not that special
- Feraligatr: Crunch, Surf, Ice Fang, Earthquake
- Dragonite: Fly, Fire Blast, Dragon Dance, Dragon Rush
- Seadra: Dragon Dance, Dragon Pulse, Ice Beam, Hydro Pump
- Hypno: Headbutt, Hypnosis, Flash, Psychic
- Heracross: Horn attack, Close Combat, Brick Break, Mega Horn
- Ampharos: Signal Beam, Strength, Thunder bolt, ThunderPunch
That's it nothing to it.

Hmm, Ash got Cyndaquil first right?

I'm thinking after HG/SS gets released in US, I'll try to complete it with Ash's johto team... similar to how i'm doing with Platinum right now with Paul's team =]

But as for the Japanese version, right now its:

Croconaw (male) level 18 Scratch, Water Gun, Bite, Scary Face.
Flaaffy (male) level 15 Thundershock, Tackle, Growl, Thunder Wave.
Spinarak (female) level 11 Poison sting, constrict, scary face, string shot.
Hoothoot (female) level 9 Tackle, Hypnosis, Foresight, Peck.
Pidgey (male) level 13 Gust, Tackle, Sand Attack, Quick Attack
Machop (traded my Drowsee for one in the Goldenrod Dept. Store.)

That's my current party on the rom. ^_^ (When I get the game in the Spring, I plan to use these again. Croconaw, Flaaffy and Spinarak are definite.)

Sandshrew is in the PC at the moment.

Keeps changing, but hopefully I'll nail something down soon so I can finish IV breeding them. At the moment I am planning on:

Arcanine
Feraligatr
Mismagius
Steelix
Hitmonlee / top

I don't want to use anything above UU so that narrowed it down somewhat :]
 
when i get the game(US version)

i going to choose Cyndaquil in HG and Totodile on SS
