Have you ever gotten into a situation where your pokemon is almost ready to level up (like, only a sixth~eighth of the exp.bar left)?
When that happens, do you go to the nearest trainer you can find and battle to level up, or do you go in the tall grass and battle wild pokemon to level up?

It sounds like a dumb question, but I always wanted to ask this to ppl. I personally feel......anxious, I guess, when my pokemon is almost leveling up. So I just go in the tall grass and find wild pokemon. I think it's also a good way to stock up on extra experience points. What do you think?

I'll go in the grass. Wild Pokemon don't give as much exp as trainer's Pokemon, and depending on the game, some trainers aren't able to be battled again. Basically, I'd rather go defeat a wild Pokemon for that last little stretch than potentially waste a trainer battle. If it's a game with a VS. Seeker, like Platinum, no biggie, I'll battle the trainer. For RSE and BW though, herro grass.

    I use a rare candy.

But really, if I'm trying to get a Pokemon to a specific level (to learn a move, or evolve it), I'd jump to the nearest patch of grass for that last sliver of experience. Then I would use any nearby trainers to test said new move or evolved Pokemon.

When my Pokemon is close to leveling up, I just try to find the wild Pokemon that gives the highest EXP yield so that the excess EXP can be added on to the new level.

I usually battle Trainers with the Vs. Seeker (in Pearl and Platinum) but in my other games, I just keep battling as many wild Pokemon as I can.

In Black, I run around looking for shaking grass so I can fight as many Audino as possible.

I never look at the exp bar until my Pokemon actually levels, lol. I must be a bad trainer.

hikari has the right idea, those things give about2-3 times the normal exp of a wild battle

I go into tall grass unless I'm ev training then I stick to the pokemon I need to defeat. But if all the ev's are accounted for, yup I just hit tall grass!

That makes two of us. Half the time I don't even know which level my Pokémon is at.
I normally train in tall grass. The VS Seeker just takes too much time to recharge and I forget it's done recharging anyway.

I'll hunt around in the grass. That way if my Pokemon evolves or learns an epic new attack I can sic it on the next unsuspecting trainer using its new super-uber move and/or form. Or something like that :P
