When You First Started Playing Pokemon Did You Use The Common Ones?

I had favorites like Charizard, Nidoking/Queen and others. First gen common pokemon were exremely boring so I never used them other than Pidgeot.

On Yellow, I could never defeat Brock with my Pikachu so i raised a Pidgey to Pidgeotto just to beat Brock, then i got a nidoran(F) and I cant remember what else.
On Platinum right now, i have a Monferno,Golduck and Staraptor, both of which i got right at the beginning.
On my way to the Pastoria 5th, so i think theyre quite strong really.Shinx doesnt really learn any good electric moves, and Bidoof i used once for real in Diamond, but now just as a HM slave

You beat Brock with a Pidgey? Wow!

Once Shinx evolves into a Luxray it will have 120 base attack and you can make real good use of that with thunder fang and spark, it might not be the best pokemon but it is definitely a good counter against a Gyarados

For my first playthrough of any gen I often use the first ones I come across lmfao. :( By 4th gen, I had enough (obtainable) favourites that I was comfortable enough to ditch some earlier members of my team to train up some other favourites, but for most other gens I just used what was available early on right up to the end. XD;

That said, this is more of a gameplay question so I'm gonna put it in General Gaming.

In my first games, I used to get common ones (of their type, since I go by type cancellation) for my team, plus the starter. Only when I considered myself as a Pokemon addict did I plan out the Pokemon by use (especially in terms of who gets to learn the HM, since I used to have an HM slave, which I can consider as a fairly common Pokemon, on my very first Pokemon game) and need that I wanted to catch and use, which were mostly comprised of my favorite ones.

But on some generations, the difference kinda doesn't count, since the planned Pokemon that I catch and use are common on those specific generations anyway.

no. i only caught ones who looked cool, like JigglyPuff and Clefairy. hell yeah!

From day one until now, I've always had at least one Pokemon from the first route on my team

:t354:TG

I caught as many pokemon as I could and trained the ones I liked.

Silver my starter was strong and my others were like 20 levels less lol

Who didn't use the common ones their first time? I'm pretty sure my first team was a charmander, two rattatas and a pidgey. All with the coolest nicknames of course.

Well I had Staraptor in my party through the E4 and realized, "Why?". I replaced it with Altaria.

When I first played Pokemon I caught all the Pokemon met on the first route, unaware that the most you can have at one time was 6.

Then I realized how pointless most were and ditched them; now I just capture the ones that might help me later on, though in DP I almost always catch Starly and Shinx for the sake of getting Starapter and Luxray, and in Kanto I sometimes get Pidgey for Pidgeot, but those are my only exceptions.

Oh, it's all such a blur. I just remember having a level 100 Blastoise and a bunch of HM slaves. Ugh, I gag at the thought of it.

Yea, I did. The first many times, I played Pokémon Red (keep in mind - being Danish, I didn't understand a word of English back then, and the game was in English) I mainly used my starter and, like, the first three or four Pokémon, I caught. However, I still keep my starter with me ALWAYS, and for some reason I always keep it the strongest of my Pokémon a few levels ahead of the others, haha.
