When you got your 1st pkmn game, did you know how to play it?

I got a yellow version for my 6th birthday. I was stuck at brock for two months and then finally I got the idea to catch and evolve caterpie. While we travelled to our holiday location I totally freaked out, because I defeated him.:bandit:
 
I was nine when I got my first Pokemon game; I was fine at it. Buuut I thought that in the flowers outside the house in Ruby hat you could catch Sunflora and Sunkern D:
 
Well, Pearl was my first official Pokemon game, (actually I had Mystery Dungeon Blue first but I dunno if that counts) and I was about 12, so I figured everything out pretty easily. I did get stuck in the Ravaged Pass before I realized I had to beat Roark, however...


now if only I had gotten FireRed and Emerald then...*headsmash*
 
I got Yellow first in like 2nd grade? gah i cant remember.
But i figured out how to play instantly...I was smart :]
I got stuck in viridian forest though...Had no idea you had to keep walking up, i thought it was a dead end for weeks.
 
at first no, but i caught on rather quick :D
 
I don't know the exact game time, since the counter stops at 999 hours and 59 minutes D=
(did the trick again on emerald)
 
Yeah my first game was Sapphire when I was like 8 or 9 and I just read the manual and figured everything out within the first day. But,I always used to watch my friends play so I got some stuff from them.
 
On the start screen, I thought 'exit' meant that the game would turn off. :| I tapped A all the time because I thought that's what made Pikachu's Thundershock so powerful. I never read the script, so I didn't make it past Brock's gym. Basically, I had no clue what I was doing. I lost my Yellow after that, though, but I'm proud to say I'm a big Pokemon nerd today. And a decent battler, if I do say so myself. ;] But sometimes, I give that A button a repetitive tap while attacking for old time's sake. xD
 
For my 5th b-day i got a GBA SP.About 2 weeks later i got Ruby.I had no idea what to do.But,My cousin showed me how...I ev'd a freakin jirachi i caught (idk wtf it was at first) from lv 5 NO LIE! to lv 100.I named it Norman.
 
The first Pokémon game I ever bought was the Sapphire version. :3 Back then I was still a little kid, but luckily I had an older friend next door who'd already shown me most of the basics of Pokémon gameplay (way before I even thought about getting a Pokémon game). I didn't have any trouble figuring out my Sapphire version thanks to him. o3o
 
Born gamer here.

Got Sapphire, used, back when I was.. 12? I think.
No manual. (didn't even HAVE a manual to begin with.)

I figured it out pretty quickly.

the only moment of silly confusion I can recall is using a whismer that had uproar... then after the battle, the screen was shaking (which I now know to indicate poison) and I thought the Whismer was still using uproar. XD
 
Unfortunately, I was a little slow back then. It took me forever to figure out that May was way up there in Route ???. :-|

I kept on trying to walk past the man, but he kept on stopping me because he found something. :(
 
In Sapphire , I only trained my Blaziken instead of raising a party (DIE IN H**L LIZA & TATE !) .

In the E4 , I ended up like this : Blaziken Lv. 91 Moves : Blaze Kick , Sky Uppercut , Rock Smash (I can't believe I did this) , Strength .

LOL , good that I woke up with FR (help system ftw ...) and went back to Sapphire to properly finish it !
 
When I was like 4, I always stole my big brothers red game, and I pressed "New game" Every time, because I didn't know what "Continue" meant. XD
And also, I leveled all my pokemon to level 30 before I found out about Togepi in Silver, and I didn't know how boxes worked untill I got to 5th gym. XD
 
My first game was crystal when I was 4. I was actually a smart kid so I could read through most of the game. I got the league and I COULD NEVER BEAT THE DUMB LANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tryed and tryed and tryed and now when I look back at it I can beat crystal in a day....
 
I had the basic idea of what to do. I could read the text cause when i was three (i had red) i was incredibly gifted(I'm a dumbass now ;))

All i didn't know was what attacks did i just had attacks that sounded cool like i had Growl as a lv 50 charizard :(
