When you got your 1st pkmn game, did you know how to play it?

My first game was Red, and I knew how to play, just not that I could make my own decisions. I chose Charmander because I thought that's what I had to pick. But I knew it was essentially "Press A: The Game".

So, when I first played Pokémon Blue my brother was next to me so I didn't have any problems (just to say my brother wasn't so good back then, he used his first master ball to catch Farfetch'd because he didn't know that you can have only one of those).
Just to say Pokémon games haven't made any problems ever for me. I have played harder games through when I was about 5 years old. (without help) Example. Shining Force 2, Super Mario games (not so hard), etc.

My first was Yellow. I was terrible, it took me ages to figure out I had to leave Pallet Town to find Prof. Oak. And even then, I went through the entire game without realising I could change the order of Pokemon in my team. My Pikachu was like level 70 my beating the league and the rest were like level 5.
I also remember calculating how power a move was based on its PP. The less, the better. To be fair, there wasn't much information they told you before you taught a Pokemon a move. And I thought all non-damaging moves were useless.
It took me even longer to find out how the stats work. And how types worked. And even longer again to learn that STAB isn't all that important.
But hey, I was young.

I kind of did but other times I just ended up getting lost and confused on what to do, so I spent most of my time battling wild pokemon. But that was when I first played yellow when I was little.

I remember back in the good old days when i first got Pokemon gold, I didnt know how to get past the battleing traners at the start so i ended up training my chikorita to lvl 30 or somthing then when i figered out how to get out my over powered pokemon beat basically every thing till the elite 4 XD
