5th Gen Where are all of these shinies coming from?

Now to be clear, this is in Black and White, since I haven't even finished it yet, but I've been noticing how so many of the people that I find randomly on the GTS Trading Negotiations have shinies, and good shinies. Rayquazas, Charizard, Pokes like that, all shiny. So I was wondering, are they using an Action Replay? I thought that if you cheated, you would be unable to use the GTS at all? Or do they just legitimately put a lot of time and catching and trading Pokemon?

I suppose it could be either Action Replay or they just take time into catching shinnies. I know that the more often you trade, the bigger the opportunity you can get a shiny. Or sometimes when you breed you get shinnies too. There are many different methods out there.

You dare question my Shiny Reshiram? :P

(j/k, if I even had that it wouldn't be legit.)

NEway, I found two on B2/W2 by chance (both Audinos, meh). It's just chance. But they are becoming slightly more common each generation, it seems.

Some people go shiny hunting or use something called RNG Abuse in order to obtain shiny Pokemon. While there are a lot of hacked shinies on the GTS, there are also quite a few legitimate ones. If you take a look at our own Trade Corner, there are shops that have a ton of Shiny Pokemon no? That's were most of our shinies come from.

In any case, if you're interested in learning basic RNG, we've got a "simple" guide here.

I know that the more often you trade, the bigger the opportunity you can get a shiny.
Huh? Are you talking about when you breed a Pokemon from your game and a Pokemon from a foreign country?

Oh, and to get it out of the way, here you go, some methods to increase your chance of catching shinies:
There are a few ways to increase your chances of finding shiny Pokemon. In Gen IV, you can use the PokeRadar to chain Pokemon. Chain up to 40 of the same Pokemon without it breaking and you'll have a 1/200 (or 0.5%) chance to find a sparkling patch where a shiny Pokemon will be found.

In both Gen IV & V, you can use the Masuda Method to increase your chances to 1/1639 (0.06%) in Gen IV and 1/1366 (0.07%) in Gen V. In order to use the Masuda Method, you must breed a Pokemon from your game and a Pokemon from a different country together (Japanese Pokemon are the easiest to figure out of course).

In Black 2 and White 2 however, you can receive the item "Shiny Charm" if you complete the National Pokedex. This increases the chance of encountering or hatching a shiny Pokemon from 1/8192 (0.01%) to 1/2,731 (0.03%). If used in conjunction with the Masuda Method, it will be increased even further to 1/1024 (0.09%).

I wouldn't necessarily say that because there are tons more shiny Pokemon floating around, people must be cheating to get them.

Shiny Pokemon are becoming more and more common for a variety of reasons. The series introduced several features to increase the encounter rates, such as breeding with international parents, chaining (4th gen only), and using the shiny charm (B2W2 only). The series made shiny Pokemon more well-known. For example, one can catch a shiny Haxorus in B2W2 or one had the opportunity to receive a shiny Larvitar if one attended the championships. Cheat devices loaded with the cheat codes are easily available in stores.

The implementation of Wi-fi trading obviously will spread more shiny Pokemon around, as traders highly value said Pokemon. However, realize that internet connectivity itself can increase the amount of shiny Pokemon showing up. Fans create websites and discussion boards and will spread their shiny-hunting tips and stories. If one reads a post about someone receiving a shiny Oshawott or one watches a YouTube video of someone running into a shiny Beldum, some viewers are influenced enough to hunt for their own shiny Pokemon, legitimately increasing the pool of shiny Pokemon. Humans are very competitive...

Another reason why there are so many shiny Pokemon is because of RNG manipulation. BW has the easiest RNG mechanics to abuse in the entire Pokemon series. What I'm basically saying is that if you download a computer program called the RNG Reporter, which predicts when and where the game generates a shiny Pokemon, and follow an RNG abuse guide, you'll be able to advance the frame / do other necessary things enough to walk right into the shiny. You may need several attempts, but a 1/5 tries is better than 1/8192 tries, right? RNG abuse will also legitimately increase the pool of shiny Pokemon. Some spend lots of time playing these games, haha.

Cheated Pokemon can get on the GTS; some are blocked, but many Pokemon aren't.

Anywaaaays, I did find my first Unova shiny 4 hours after buying Black. :)

Despite all that better shiny encounter rates and whatnot, I haven't ever even seen a shiny Pokemon in the wild... Just my luck I guess. Although, I was on the GTS the other day and saw a LVL.1 Shiny Zekrom up for trade. The person wanted a Lvl.5 Reshiram. What the heck...

Anyway, I'd bet for action replay, but that's just me thinking, I'm sure a few are legit.

After playing Pokemon games for about 10 I had never encountered a shiny, until early March, when I caught my shiny Mienfoo, the right way. Since then I have not encountered any more.

I just caught my first shiny in the wild after getting the shining charm... I have 250 hours in the game and this is my first non-programmed shiny in this one! Haha. I think BW2 also have a disadvantage that you can get a LOT of leveling done just fighting trainers and then you encounter less pokemon in the wild because you're not fighting them to level... and thus less shinies are found unless you're looking for them.

Wow, a shiny Zekrom on the GTS? I thought it would at least be able to tell that much... and that brings up another issue, all the people asking for below level 10 Zekrom/Reshirams. I wish they would put better filters on the GTS. It sucks when you're just looking for a regular poke and people one you to trade them pokemon that don't even exist.

Yep, there are a lot of shiny pokemon out there. I do agree they need to put better filters on the GTS to prevent hacks. When I finally learned how to check for hacks I had a ton of them :(

I have seen a few wild shines, but they've always ran away. Outside of the red Gyarados I've never caught one in the wild, I did however hatched a shiny Phione :) :p
