Hi, this is my very first post about pokemon, I am 26 years old =) and live in Brazil.

Well, I hadnt conditions to have those video games when I was young, I would LOVE to play the games today.

So where I begin? I have seem the 1st generations was red/blue, but they are in white/black, not nice to play.

Can I download emulator to game boy or game boy advance ( I dont know the difference) and play pokemon games?

I Would like to get all classic pokemons, bulbasaur, charmander, pikachu, and so on.

Can I get them in all games? I have seem the graphics for nintendo ds is very good, game boy and game boy advanca are also good (witho colores at least?)

Sorry for this so basic questions, but is a start for me, i dont know ANYTHING.

If you wanna play the first generation but hate the graphics, then you should play FireRed and LeafGreen, which are re-makes of Red/Blue for the Game Boy Advance (and yes, there is a difference between the Game Boy and the Game Boy Advance). So nicer graphics and extra content. And updated mechanics.

You can get all the Pokemon in each of the games from Gen 4 onward since Pokemon transfer systems have been a a part of the games since then.

X and Y are also good places to start. They're the most recent and have the best graphics (arguably) and include about 450 Pokemon from previous generations, especially Gen 1.

Yours answer is very helpfull, but i still with a doubt:

If i begin in 4th generation, i can pick ALL the pokemons, charmander, bulbasaur, squirtle, and so on, or i have to play and catch then in leaf/fire versions of game boy advance, and after this, transfer them to the newer generations.

"X and Y are also good places to start. They're the most recent and have the best graphics (arguably) and include about 450 Pokemon from previous generations, especially Gen 1."

If i begin in this X and Y, the difference will be the story?

I mean, in fire/leaf i will play a story very likely the video of ash that shows in TV, and X and Y would have a very difference story, not ash as main caracther.

    Am I Right?

There are very good emulators for GBA which you can probably find with a bit of googling. More than that, we're usually not inclined to say on PC, as it's not really legal business to play the official games that way :) If you really want the basic story with Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Team Rocket and Mewtwo, FireRed or LeafGreen are what you want, yes. They are GBA games, plenty of colors and decent game mechanics.

However, maybe it's actually better if you start with X or Y, since they bring so many new things to the pokémon franchise, and also the graphics are in 3D and would probably appeal to a casual gamer much more than the older games would. You need to own a Nintendo 3DS for those games though, I don't think there are any decent emulators for that, but I could be wrong. However, again, this is not really the place to discuss the availability of emulators. Just making sure you know you're better off owning the real console :)

As for the story with Ash, he is ONLY in the anime. There is no Ash in the games. However, the anime goes through all the regions, and the story somewhat (only somewhat) reflects what happens in the official games. So in a way you could say Ash is all the protagonists in the games, after one another. Thus, if you play X or Y, the story would have about as much to do with Ash as playing FireRed or LeafGreen would.

To conclude: if you don't own/want to buy a 3DS console and if getting the classic pokémon is important for you - get FireRed or LeafGreen! If you care more about having MANY pokémon to choose from and want to play a much better looking game - get X or Y. I don't fully know the story of X/Y but I doubt it's much deeper than the classic Team Rocket story, maybe just a bit. Feel free to correct me, people who have actually played X/Y ^^
