There of lots of 'em out there.
Which one do you prefer, and why?

I currently use Norton Antivirus 2007 (mainly because it was on sale at Best Buy for $20) though I will be getting a Mac soon and probably won;t need AntiVirus so much. Does Avast come in a Mac version?

Clamwin. It's free, and I can't be bothered to stuff around trying others. :P

AVG. Free and powerful. Not bloated as Norton and McAfee.

For the laptop I am using now, I'm using Norton 360. For my other computer, I am using AVG.

I'll hop onto the AVG-praise train. It's fabulous and works like a dream. I've tried MacAfee and Norton, but they screwed my computer up something awful. D:

I am using Computer Associates to defend my computer because it is provided by my ISP for free.

I've tried a lot of them. The last ones I tried were Panda (too freaking slow to load...), then AntiVir (it was ok till a virus got in, anyway), so I'm onto AVG, just like a lot of other people it seems. It's the one more reliable from all the ones I've tried.

I use AVG. I haven't had a virus as long as I've used it, and it barely uses any system resources, compared to Norton/McAfee/others.

I once used a earlier version of AVG Free to sort out some viruses, but it just deleted a load of the important files rather than fix it or didn't detect them at all.
Seriously, its massively over-hyped just because you can get it without paying. For most Antivirus programmes, you can't tell whether it's effective if its not even doing it's job properly- that's why it's better to judge using professional reviews (rather than price). Company reviews generally agree that it's really ineffective :S

Having being exposed to viruses constantly, I reckon AVG sucks big time. For the past year I've been using Kaspersky Anti Virus, it's by far one of the most effective antivirus/spyware kits every made and has the best response times. Today alone, it's already rejected 4 trojans from certain websites for me. Although you have to pay, it's worth it (or you could just get a crack haha).

I used AVG while I was trying out Vista for a bit, but now on XP I'm using an old copy of Symantec Antivirus (Dunno what it is now) and it's doing pretty good.

It's common for my computers to have virus attacks, so generally we use AVG and also Spyware Doctor. Spyware Doctor is good for stopping various sites that that may contain viruses, but it's a bit annoying since it blocks some websites. (it blocked PC for me once)
But I think AVG is much more effective~

I mostly use AVG. Its very effective and I haven't had a virus since I used it. I, can't be bothered to change to another software, and they take too long to download, which makes me mad!!

My ISP gave me Windows Live OneCare. It's really good (except all the Firewall rules are buried in the Settings panel)
