Kanto was the first one, Johto is perhaps the most traditional one (reflecting the Tokyo and Kyoto areas of Japan), Hoenn is exotic and dramatic and Sinnoh is northern and ancient. Unova is modern, Kalos is stylish, both are far away.

But if one were to proclaim one of the pokémon regions as the most important (or powerful) one, for whatever reason, which would it be?

From my faint understanding of the history and stuff, I'd say Sinnoh. Palkia and Dialga created like time and space or something to that effect, though not sure if this was for Sinnoh only or not. And Areceus resides at Spear Pillar, and apparently everything started with Arceus.

I'm not exactly sure what region would be considered the most important (probably Sinnoh, due to the reasons that Flushed stated), but personally, I really like Hoenn. All its locations are different and unique, and their themes are pretty fun to listen. My most favorite place from this region would probably have to be Fortree city. Back when I still had Emerald, I used to spend hours there just roaming around. :]

It's tough to pick which region is the most important, since they all have pretty major roles within the Pokemon world. Historically, I'll say Sinnoh, much for the same reasons that Flushed pointed out, and with all of its mythology and history. Present day, I'd go with Unova, similar to the current status of the United States in our own world. Unova seems to be the most technologically advanced of the regions to date and one of the most populous (I'm not familiar enough with Kalos yet to know if it's the most or not), which should place a high level of importance on it as is.

Mmm, yeah, I'm going to have to say Sinnoh too. Not because I don't think it's my favourite region (well I like all region's and their designs), but yes, the history behind it seems really important for the pokemon world. It talks about Dialga, the deity of time, Palkia, the space pokemon, and Giritina who is in charge of the Distortion World, which is important because, from what I've gathered, the distortion world and the real world are 'linked' in which, if one world is in calamity, so wold be the other. Of course, there's also the discussion of Arceus there, since it's believed to be the god of all pokemon. I think that's a debatable point, but, yeah, I think Sinnoh talks more about pokemon galaxies and how the world was formed.
