Which pokemon was Ash dumb enough to give away?

He shouldn't have given his Charizard away. Sure, it was so that it could be trained, but he could've used it in many battles instead of always relying on Pikachu.

I have been begging for a reunion episode, where Ash sees all his old pokemon, since haunter left. I guess since he's going to Hoenn I won't get it :( :( :'(

Charizard: he dropped it off at the Charicific Valley to become stronger (I don't consider it a loss, because he can get it back just by giving Liza a call)
Butterfree: He sent it off for breeding purposes
Primeape: He sent it off to train with a real fighting-type trainer (I really didn't get it :\)
Beedrill: He gave it to Casey because she likes yellow and black striped pokemon...
Squirtle: He sent it back to the Squirtle Squad to help them win a pok?mon firefighting competition...
Lapras: he returned it to its family
Pidgeot: He left it behind to watch over the pidgey and pidgeotto of the Viridian forest
Larvitar: He had to ruturn it to its mother (but it was never really Ash's pok?mon to begin with)
Pok?mon at Oak's: includes Kingler, Muk, Tauros, Snorlax, Heracross, Bulbasaur, Bayleef, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Noctowl, Phanpy as of the episode "Gotta Cath ya later"

it is a close tie between Butterfree and Pidgeot...

Butterfree could use Sleep Powder and end a battle almost instantly (or at least by how battles go in the anime...)

Pidgeot could've easily become an awesome aerial battler if he had kept it (it's gust attack was awesome in the one episode it appeared in)

I wouldn't consider Charizard "given away" as Ash could just call upon Liza and she will send it right over.

well butterfree have a very short life, he did the right thing letting him go. after laying their eggs, butterfree die and fall down into the sea. so ash wouldn't be with him very long after anyway. (i have this guess that butterfree's spirit comes back on Mt.Pyre, probably in a late Houen episode)

Ehh? Butterfree die after laying their eggs...? Ash's poor Butterfree! T-T I knew he shouldn't have let it go off and mate.. sort of. Maybe one of its babies will come to visit Ash and he can capture it, etc. But then.. Caterpie can't fly so he'd have to wait til it evolved into Butterfree so it could fly across the ocean. o_o; Ah well... Butterfree are one of my favorite Pok?mon, so this was pretty interesting to learn.
