Which real-world animal does not have a Pokemon version yet that should?

I remember being amazed for years that we didn't have a true dolphin in the Pokeverse. There's Gorebyss, but not really - so it was nice when we finally got Finizen and Palafin.

One of the animals at the top of my list is the peacock - seems strange that one doesn't exist.

A peacock was planned in the beta of Ruby and Sapphire though! The design got scrapped because it was "literally just a peacock." xD

Kind of surprised we haven't gotten a pink fairy armadillo yet, especially since the introduction of the Fairy type. We've also seen mole crickets in Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! but not Pokémon yet.

Pink fairy armadillos do seem almost tailor-made for Pokemon. The peacock for Ruby and Sapphire is definitely one of those "darn it" moments, like when they wanted to expand the Eevelutions but the design was too close to fan art so they had to put it away.

Second a peacock, and add a roadrunner, a pegasus, and a hummingbird to the list of ideas

Llamas. Closest we have might be Arceus, but like idk wth animal it's even supposed to be. It's pretty unclear from just looking at it.
We got horses and donkeys. A Pokemon closer to an actual llama would be nice =3

edit: got sniped on what it's in the spoiler below, took me too long to find a decent battle image I guess =P

Llama is another good one - yeah, I'd probably say Arceus or Silvally as an unsatisfying stand-in for now because we don't have a strong representation of a llama. I was really excited when we got Skiddo and Wooloo. I think I'd have the same excited response to a true llama-like Pokemon! And definitely agree on Quaquaval - I have one standing in as a peacock because I was making a team based on animals associated with mythology, but she definitely feels more like a duck/swan/goose because of the water theme.

I look at Quaquaval as a peacock the same way I looked at Gorebyss as a dolphin - if I want a "peacock Pokemon" right now, Quaquaval is my top pick, but I still see too much duck/swan to feel completely satisfied.

I get it. Some mash-up Pokémon, namely those that only vaguely resemble their partial inspiration, just don't scratch that itch. Still wouldn't mind a fully/near fully snow leopard-based 'mon myself, given Chien-Pao's strong resemblance to an ermine. Preferably non-Legendary so I don't feel weird about using it.

(Also, I think Gorebyss is supposed to be a narrownose chimera, perhaps crossed with a pipefish?)

I would really like for Game Freak to add more pokemon that look like animals and less objects

A few animals that I think need more representatives are a Hedgehog, Jellyfish and Sharks/Whales... We have them but 1 shark and 1 whale species only in the whole series? Isn't it kinda low?

We are 9 generations in and we still do not have Pokemon based on termites, moose, llamas, or lionfish.
Termites seem like an obvious Bug option, and I definitely agree on moose and llamas. Moose are part of the cervidae family alongside deer, which I absolutely love. Llamas are more closely associated with camels, so it'd be nice to get Camerupt a friend. Lionfish also seems like a slam dunk because I feel like they were already knocking on the door with Lumineon - perhaps a regional variant?

I kinda get why they don't, but I think a Pokémon based on a Greater Short-Horned Lizard (the ones that shoot blood out of their eyes). There's also the whale shark and basking shark which I think would make for some fun designs.

As for animals that aren't alive anymore, I'm sad there isn't a Pokémon really based on the Ankylosaurus yet. Torterra is kind of the closest one but lacks the iconic hammer tail.

We need some trash queens—a Dark/Poison Opossum Pokémon with the ability Emergency Exit to simulate how opossums use "playing dead" as a strategy.
