    I dont mean favourite but best/toughest for ash/misty/may/paul?

    I think paul because he seems realy tough and has powerfull pokemon.
     
    Well for Satoshi (Ash). Without a doubt, Shinji (Paul), he is hands down the best rival to date.
    All the other pale in comparison to his epic awesomeness.
    He's the exact opposite of all of Satoshi's previous rivals and he's no goody-goody, but he's not a bad guy either
    he's just really strict and firm about his training methods
    and if they can't handle it, then they can just chalk it
    though eventually he just releases them coughsatoshishiko/moukazarucough
    His Ringuma (Ursaring) is made of win, cause. . . well I'm not gonna spoil it for all those who don't know, but he know what he did =3

    Jun (Barry) is also good, but that's cause its Jun. . . he's awwwesome >w< Right after Shinji.
    Shigeru (Gary) was a good rival, but the writers Put Him on a Bus and he became a Pokemon Researcher, but he constantly owns Satoshi and is a badass, so its all good

    For Kasumi (Misty). . . does she even have a rival?
    Same goes for Takeshi (Brock)

    For Haruka (May). Its Shuu (Drew), definately Shuu.

    Hikari (Dawn) hmm I like Nozomi (Zoey) she a real cool rival for a girl like Hikari
    never liked Kengo (Kenny) all that much =P
    and Naoshi's (Nando) never there, so bleh
     
    Paul..Or Gary! Garyis Pretyy strong! I mean his Granpa is a professer! I like Gary better then Paul because he is nicer to Pokemon but i think that Paul is a little bit stronger.

    Paul_ i dont think he has a rival he is stronger then Ash! But Probably Barry! Barry is pretty strong almost Paul i guess
     
    Well I say Paul cuz he is as badass and he says hes tough just like Johto Rival : Ash
    Dawn : Umm I think Zoey or Kenny ... kinda both
    Brock : Ummmmmmm..... he's none

    Gary. Coz he's awesome. He may be a cocky show off, but he admitted and admires Ash as a great Trainer.
     
    Where's the Harrison love, he was one of the best rivals with his Blaziken although his team was really broken.
     
    Ash → Paul: Paul actually shows up a lot while Gary didn't show up much in Kanto, Orange Islands, or Johto.

    May → Harley/Soledad: Well, I like Soledad so she gets the thumbs up for me. Harley is the best rival ever though. He's funny, evil, and is a great character overall.

    Dawn → Zoey: Dawn has no good rivals so I just chose her main rival.
     
    Easily Paul and if you watch the anime you know why.

    And his team is a UNIT. It's well-arranged and, apparently, indestructable.

    I don't want to see him lose to Satoshi... But it's inavoidable... *sighs*
     
    gary for me. but i dint understand half the opptions. who are they?
     
    I think Richie, but Ash could have easily beat him in the first indigo season if his Charizard was obeying him at the time of the championship.
     
    I'm going to have to say Paul and Gary because Ash had more fights with the both of them then anyone else and that shows us more of their strengths and weakness then anyone else

    Definitely Gary, because he's the coolest.
     
    While Gary was pure awesome and Paul's very strong, I voted Harley.

    Harley has a wonderful... Stage presence? He really dominates episodes and his sneaky ways of tricking May really impressed me. His flamboyancy and outrageous behaviour make him quite unique among the rivals and, unlike Paul, though he may be mean to others, it's clear he really cares about his Pokemon.

    He's also a strong and formidable opponent, which is why my vote goes to him. =3
