    Hi Peeps

Why are old Pokémon never mentioned that much these days. For example Slowpoke, Ponyta. Pokémon back in those days. People seem to be more into the newer Pokémon, and not much into the gaming cards where I live.

I think it's nice to mention the old Pokémon so we can give them more attention then they had in the past.

    thanks for viewing :D

I find that the first generation Pokemon are still brought up fairly often in the fandom. Maybe not as much as the third or fourth generations, but still pretty often.

Now, it's the second generation of Pokemon that are often forgotten. Qwilfish, anyone? Maybe Forretress?

I'm with Redstar on this one. For some reason, the second generation had a whole lot of forgettable Pokémon - the aforementioned Qwilfish and Forretress, Granbull, Ledian, Noctowl, Stantler - the list goes on. (But then again, there were also some awesome ones like Scizor and Steelix.)

I suppose it's just because the Pokémon are newer - they're like a shiny new toy. Despite the fact that preferring something solely because it's new is an example of argumentum ad novitatem, we seem to be naturally attracted to the latest new thing. Also, it seems a younger generation of Pokéfans is emerging, where they didn't start out with first generation, so the older Pokémon don't hold the nostalgic value that they do for many of us.

The new pokemons are alot stronger and are better looking. And the cards.. the old cards just too old and not as cool as the new ones

I don't forget them. I pretty much use them for my team more than new generations.

Maybe it's just the newer fans

I think it was such a bad idea when they first fobid the older Pokémon cards. it does not make much sense to me to forbid them in any case.

    Gyrados /polywrath Combo FTW!
    Gyrados/blastoise FTW!!

It's primarily because of the younger generation of fans emerging that didn't start with R/B or G/S like most of us. I've actually noticed several younger members of PC who have told me that they just got into pokemon with R/S/E or even as recently as the D/P/Pt games. For these newer members, Rattata, Pidgey, Sentret, Hoothoot, and the starters and legendaries from the first two gens don't spark the nostalgic emotions that they do for older members like me. Ask them who their favorite legendary bird is, and they'll probably respond, "Does Cresselia count?" We shouldn't take offense to this. Indeed, it is our responsibility as the older and more experienced generation of Pokemon fans to take these younger fans under our wings and allow them to experience the first generations of their favorite series so that they can know what they missed out on and have a better appreciation for the series.

    lol, wall of text. XD

GenI and GenII will always be the best.

As long as you know that, it really doesn't bother you that much.

I totally agree. I still collect the 151 original pokemon lol. You gotta love them. IMO, they have more personality and difference. I feel as if the new ones were rushed, just to make more.

That's a good point. I guess they will be in our shoes one day and have to do the same. Well put.
BTW, what is your fav legendary bird?

Well the old ones are generally not in the regular starting dexes in the newer games. I mean once you get the national dex some still dont appear. Although i would say every gen has some appealing ones it depends on what you like but personally i will always like the 2nd gen the best. (Feraligatr FTW!)

Did you start off knowing pokemon from the second Gen? I'm wondering if people's favourite is simply the first ones they knew.

I think they're fairly brought up, I was in maths and we were talking about Pokemon than some of the other people around me and my friend said they remember it and they mentioned Pokemon like Squirtle and Marill etc.. However, we mentioned something like Riolu and they didn't have the slightest clue.

People are more exposed and submerged into the newer generations because they're most of the news now. :x

That's true, but, why do the writers insist on using the new ones. They should start to bring back the older ones. They still exist right?

Because if the writers put in a Charmander all the little kids who only started watching will start to get angry because they can't find a Charmander in their game.

Lol, I don't mean just in the show, I mean the game too. Charmander is a legend lol. (Let me stress I said legend, not Legendary)
