Why are old Pokémon never mentioned much these days?

lol any young'uns that wanna learn about gen 1 ask me lol i had red in November of '98... thems were simpler times... 150 and that was all there was... glitchy as hell... gave me a reason to actually own my gameboy lol
 
Hey, sir... what's your favorite pokemon?- Some random younger fan.

It would have to be... Ariados.- Some random older fan.

Who?- Younger fan.

Yeah, that's what it'll be like in about 20 years... maybe 10. I started out with G/S/C, and while Emerald is my favorite game, I, of course, feel really bad that not many kids even know some of these pokemon. Well, hopefully that will be remidied when HG/SS comes out. The older pokemon will be ignored, then they will be recognised, then ignored. It will likely be a cycle, you know? But that might not be the case.
 
I thought everyone else never thought this because PC all think 'W00PW00P JOHTO PWNS ALL' but after reading through this I've found people who seem to agree. From 180-240 in the dex (All Johto) alot of pokemon are easily forgotten about and pretty useless.

I like Johto by the way but I dont see why its so glorified considering the lesser amount of good pokemon.

EDIT: Wow, someone said a new fan wont know who Typhlosion is. Bad example really, there are alot of Typhlosions fans on the forum and as a starter its hard
not to know what Typhlosion is.

I really don't think that they are not liked by anyone. I really like all the jhoto pokes(except a few). And I was astonished to read your last para coz it says that a new fan doesn't know Typhlosion! Man, that's surprising!
 
Pikachu's an old Pokemon, adn it's mentioned... a lott (too much ;_:)

In my household, it's the complete opposite. The only Pokemon my mum\dad know of are the old ones, such as Meowth, Eevee etc. I assume the newer Pokemon are mentioned more are because, quite simply, R\B\Y was ages ago. I mean, back in the day, they were the new thing. Now, D\P\Pl are the new generation (as well as HG\SS) and since quite a few children are getting into Pokemon, they may not know of the oldies such as Meowth etc., and only know of the newer ones such as Lucario, Dialga etc.

Arceus, sure it's stronger, but better looking than Mew? There are so many flaws with your post I don't even know where to being (Dragonair >>> Gabite)
