Why Do People Hate Grass types?

Too many weaknesses, not many types are weak against them, not many useful moves...
And starters are almost always the only choice to get useful Grass type... and since I always play with Fire starters, I don't even have the possibility to try Grass type Pokemon.
Using a Grass type move is not a problem, but using a Grass type Pokemon... no.
 
I don't care about competitive battling :D so I don't have those problems with grass types. But I can see where you are all coming from, because most of the time I've played a pokémon game I haven't had a grass type on my team for those reasons pretty much. But if used cleverly, they can be really valuable in game with all their powders and healing abilities stuff.

When not talking about the game, I love them dis much *holds out haaaands* Because of their vine whip, razor leaf and other nifty attacks and abilities that other types just don't have. They make for interesting battling when writing, for instance. And overall, not many of their designs aren't among my favorite ones, but I still think they are interesting and there are gems like Chikorita, Bulbasaur, Sunflora and Whimsicott.

So I think the "hate" for grass types is justified judging from the games and battling, but it's not worth going around hatin' because many of them are great otherwise.
 
First Imcde grass types are actually pretty good competitively I use grass types in my online team and they take down many pokemon,Bredino i wouldn't agree they offer many good grass types to use and Ice is actually the 3rd rarest type,Ash grass types actually have many great moves to use if you bother to use them and their weaknesses aren't very common except flying,and red I totaly agree with you but grass types have a lot more moves then just status and it dosen't seem any reason to hate them at all im guessing you have used a whimsicott it can learn a variety of moves that are all great

There are plenty of Grass-types that are "up for it" in competitive battling tyvm.

I think it's hasty generalization to say that "people hate Grass-types." Not because most people you know hates or is generally displeased with Grass-types doesn't mean that everyone does. I, for one, know a lot of people that are more or less pleased with most Grass-types, including me.
 
i dont mind them, its just a matter of finding the right one to use. right now my coil serperior is very useful for phazing while stealth rock is in place. sceptile is a good mon too as well as torterra being a tank, although i usually pick my starter based on design, which is why i chose oshawott for my 5th gen, and piplup for 4th, and all before that were the fire types. outside of celebi, ferrothorn, and the starter grass types most of them arent very good.

It's more-so because the introduction of Charmander in the first generation made so much unecessary hype and people constantly credit it more than it's due.

I would absolutely love to see someone attempt to beat my level 100 Torterra... It's grass/ground, which both Fire and Water are weak to.
 
I would give you a high pieman if i could,and zdude I just looked througgh the grass types and most of them are pretty good

Yeah, true.


Venasaur has a good moveset and typing.


Meganium has a 'decent' moveset, boring typing, good defenses.


Sceptile has strange stats, awesome moveset.


Torterra has strange but awesome typing, good defenses, good moveset.


Serperior has strange stats, strange moveset.


In fact, Serperior is the only one I would agree with being fairly useless. However I love his artwork and his speed in battle.

TL;DR: Grass Types are NOT useless.
 
actually I think Serperior has a great moveset and is based on speed rather than strength he is just a snake after all but he's definitely not worthless he's actually my 2nd fav starter
 
i agree serperior is one of the best starters second to torterra in my opinion for grass type starters, also i forgot to include roserade in my list of very useful grass types my bad.

I don't hate them. I used Chikorita in Pokemon Crystal and leveled it up to a lv. 100 Meganium before the game dried up. Grass-types are sorely underrated, mostly because of their multiple weaknesses (Fire, Ice, Bug, Poison and Flying). The only Grass-type I see on the show anymore is Pansage and he's becoming scarce.
 
I actually like grass types, here's the reason, based on their looks:

GEN I
-Bulbasaur evolution family: I like the three of them, they look good, especially Ivysaur.
-Charmander evolution family: My favourite of ALL pokémon, my starter in this gen.
-Squirtle evolution family: They ALL suck.
--Grass: 1
--Fire: 1
--Water: 0

GEN II
--Chikorita family: They also look pretty good to me, all 3 of them.
--Cyndaquil family: Just like Chikorita they look really good, plus the fire type (my favourite), my starter in this region.
--Totodile family: What I like the most of Jhotto is the starters, all of them look good.
--Grass: 2
--Fire: 2
--Water: 1

GEN III
-Treecko family: Also like this one, maybe not so much Sceptile but I'll take it.
-Torchic family: This is where fire types started to disappoint me. I choose it as my starter, but leave it as Combusken, Blaiziken sucks.
-Mudkip family: It's not ugly, but I don't like it.
--Grass: 3
--Fire: 3
--Water: 1

GEN IV
-Tortwig family: I really like this one, all 3 of them look cool, especially Torterra. My starter for this gen.
-Chimchar family: OK, here's the deal, I actually think that Chimchar is kind of cute and looks good, but come on. Monferno, Infernape?!? That's just pure garbage.
-Piplup family: I like them.
--Grass: 4
--Fire: 3
--Water: 2

GEN V
-Snivy family: They REALLY look good, I like all 3 of them, Serperior is awesome. My starter in this gen.
-Tepig family: Garbage.
-Oshawott: Unlike almost all people, I like Oshawott, Dewott and specially Samurott.
--Grass: 5
--Fire: 3
--Water: 3

I'm not counting GEN VI, I have to see all 9 of them, but there you go, in my oppinion grass type starters make a bigger cool group.
My favourite Grass/whatever type? Oddish and Bellosom.
 
I don't hate any of the starter designs I actually like all of them and have used most of them.But I just use grass types the most also they look the best to me
 
I started using the Water and Grass type starters ever since Gamefreak boarded the Fire/Fighting starter type train.
 
i only started using grass Pokemon in gen 4 but I've found that people always under estimate them. they usually have ways to get out of tough spots with good moves or other types. just teach a serperior dragon tale it will get you out of type disadvantages without switching Pokemon. grass type Pokemon do not have bad stats they are just all in one place so you should be able to use that to your advantage if your a good enough trainer but if you cant don't blame it on they're type. i do agree though that there are only a few good grass type moves but there are good ones believe it or not. also most pokemon can be used well in a competition but its how good you are at training them that decides if they are good or not... or you can get good IVs by breeding them for a while.
 
If hating Grass types is a general rule (and I doubt that), then I must be a blatant exception: I usually pick Grass starters, and go out of my way to catch/breed some Grass types. Nothing kicks a Water or Ground opponent's butt like a Sunflora with Leaf Storm. Synthesis, and Solar Beam...or a Sceptile with Leaf Blade and Frenzy Plant. :) Then there's the Budew evolutionary line, beautiful but potentially deadly in a skilled player's hands; I typically avoid catching "pure" Poison types, but the Roselia and Roserade that I've bred make up for that.
 
Grass-types are actually one of my top three favorites (the other two being Water and Normal if that counts for anything at all, haha)

Some of my all-time favorite Pokemon are Grass-type, but they are weak to Fire, Ice, Bug, Flying, and Poison plus most of them fill a support role because of moves like Sleep Powder, PoisonPowder, Stun Spore, Aromatherapy, and Leech Seed being really common with them. A lot of them don't have the biggest movepools either so they're really limited.

They definitely aren't the strongest type but there are a lot of Grass-types that have a lot of potential in different aspects, which is one reason as to why I personally love them.​
 
Competitive wise, there's really only a handful that are useful. That handful being Ferrothorn and Celebi. All the others are just sort of meh or only really fulfill a niche.

Casual wise, they seem alright to me.
