I'm not trying to diss sonic/his fans. I have autism myself so this isn't a anti-autism thread but I been seeing a lot of bad fan media/some people irl who enjoy sonic at my special school.

Does sonic have a mostly autistic following or do people just say it to hate on the series/furries.

I think you've spent too much time on 4chan. Sonic fans are still Sonic fans regardless of their disabilities. There has been a lot of bad fan media/some people irl from other fandoms, from Final Fantasy to Pokemon to Minecraft. The hate usually comes from the 90's kids, who are now all grown up, who despise modern Sonic games and still question why it's still gaining more audiences when it's suppose to be exclusive only to them.

Well, is there a statistical proof that majority of sonic fans are autistic? If not, then you shouldn't make such bold assumptions, OP.

No. Adding onto what Cassino said, while the series probably has the worst fanbase I have ever seen (for a game at least, and when you create the sum of all its parts), fans are fans. The ones that are typically made fun of are perhaps the loudest of the bunch, but they don't speak for all of the fandom. From people who just want to have fun with others, to 20-30 year olds screaming on YouTube about Sonic's eyes not being green (and telling people who disagree to hurt themselves), the fanbase is unpleasable, extremely divided, and sometimes bizarre.

Most of the Sonic fans one sees will appear to be 'aspie tweens' into making their 'original characters' for mary-sue insert fanfics. It's just what tends to be observed from at least the most visible part of the fanbase (see: deviantART) and so the OP here is simply curious as to why that may be, or if that even is the case. I very much doubt there's any ill-meant assumption going around here.

kuzronk, I think it's due to the majority of the fanbase one will see online, generally being in their teens in order to have Internet access themselves, are likely to be the only part of the fanbase we will see without actually mingling with preteens in person. I theorise that most 'normal' people will grow up and move on, so to speak, forfeiting their interests which are deemed childish upon entering highschool and their teens in order to fit in to their new social environment. On the other hand, individuals with autism, whom often exhibit personalities resistant to change, are likely to form their own relatively closed social circles or else be loners and continue to pursue the same interests they always have done, possibly into and throughout adulthood. And so, the autistic demographic is what we see among Sonic fans online. Just my thoughts.

This isn't really a appropiate topic, as it could be offensive to some of our members, while you just wondered something, but i'm not quite comfortable with it, so i'm going to close it here.
