Why does Team Rocket...

Why does Team Rocket always insist on cheating in the competitions they enter? I know it's kind of their thing lol, but they actually stand more of a chance sometimes when they don't.

For instance Meowth may have won that egg in the contest where the Pokemon had to imitate other Pokemon(The convention they joined on the way to Eterna City)

    Spoiler:

Jesse should listen to James for once, don't you think? I feel so bad for him sometimes.

They always disqualify themselves even though it's obvious they're just going to get thundershocked. XD

I think thats kind of their purpose in the show because they are proving that cheating and bad behaviour don't get you any perks. Plus I think its a source of comedy seeing them failing at the simplest of tasks.

True it is funny, but it is really annoying how they show up every 5 seconds...>___>, and yes JESSE SHOULD LISTEN TO JAMES FOR ONCE!

    Yea... it is funny.

I know they always say that they can't afford Pokeballs (like, when they're trying to steal a bunch of wild Pokemon at one time)...but the two things that come to mind when they do are:
    a. How do they get so much money from the Boss to build machines but never Pokeballs.
    b. Why don't they just steal the Pokeballs... -.-

Oh well. Team Rocket is Team Rocket, and we'll always love them...even if they are annoying...

Yeah, I do think it's funny and it's one of the messages of Pokemon in the first place, but it would be nice to see them win fairly for once, particularly James because, like he said, he's usually the one who wants to fight Ash and co. fairly.

He did really well in the Pokeringer contest(Ash only won because his pokemon evolved at the right moment) He also won the Orienteering contest and let Ash, May, and Brock have the secondary prize(Though Jesse's cheating may have helped him, he didn't know about it)

I like seeing episodes like that because it brings out another message of Pokemon, even the "bad guys" have a little good in them.

    It's a nice change of pace ^_^

There have been some Pokemon Contests where Jessie hasn't cheated. But its really annoying when they could win but then cheat at the last minute and so *make* themselves be blasted off by Ash...when they could've won without cheating

Indeed. I think it's partly abuse by the writers (J/J/M are so fun to kick, aren't they?) and to avoid the writing of what would happen if the Rockets won anything. That's a challenge of brain power that these writers may not be able to afford -- what do you expect with the constant cranking out episodes?

In series, I think it's habitual and almost an addiction. Sometimes, they will compulsively use cheating as they're so used to it by now. Like the early Contests, then they found out they don't have to cheat. Of course, they still get punished, anyway, but again, that's the writers for you.

Same with stealing. A good example is James' dewy-eyed look in Forest Grumps, when Meowth was planning to steal Misty's Pokemon.

(James in an salivating voice) "You mean, we're going to steal them?"

    Go with that.
