WHY POKEMON IS NOT EVIL
I have recently been searching and finding SO many people who think Pokemon is evil. Now, I understand that people CAN get VERY obsessed with it (I was there once), but it's evil just depends on HOW obsessed you are.
For example, say this kid comes home and all he talks about is Pokemon. Then say he watches it on TV and it just so happens that a Spirtitomb or a Channeler is on the show or something. Next this kid ends up thinking ghosts are all cool and tries for HOURS to communicate with them like the Channerlers do. Eventually this kid becomes totally evil, etc.
Thats one example of something I've read.
When I was about 6 years old, I was in church and they told this story about the evils of Pokemon.
"Once, there was a little boy who LOVED Pokemon. he had all the wallpapers, all the trading cards, the games, the stuffed Pokemon, the action figures, and even an Ash hat. He'd wear it to school everyday thinking he was all cool. But then one night, as he was trying to go to sleep, he thought that his giant stuffed Pikachu, which he kept in the corner of the room, was making faces!! The kid walked over to it, and Pikachu WAS making faces! Its expression changed from happy to sad to angry to its regular expression again. At first the boy didn't tell his mother, because he thought it would be cool to have a real live Pokemon! But then the Pikachu got up and started walking, and the kid could see the shadows of 'evil angels' moving across his wall. The kid decided to tell his parents, who supposedly 'witnessed' everything and decided that Pokemon was evil.
That night, Jesus came to the boy in a dream, giving him a vision of a fire. He told the little boy that he had to BURN all of his Pokemon items. Until this was done, the evil would stay, and get worse.
The next morning, the boy told his mother of the dream, and she agreed that all of his Pokemon stuff should be burned. So the kid burned all of his Pokemon stuff and the evil left his room, never to return.
Now what kind of person makes up that stuff just to scare little kids out of Pokemon? Do YOU believe that story? I don't. I have friends who used to be major fans, and now almost FEAR it because of that fictional story which they believe to be true. I've read about people burning their cards, their Pokemon and pokeballs, and one even took a hammer to her gameboy because she thought that her Pokemon game was EVIL!!!!
I know this article is about why Pokemon is NOT evil, but I'm saying that people only focus on the Dark Side of Pokemon. (For you newb fans, I'm NOT saying that Pokemon has anything to do with Darth Vader) Do you ever see people write articles about why Pokemon is Good and Not evil? (Maybe thats why I'm writing this article, IDK)
Through Pokemon, kids make friends because there are SO MANY Pokefans out there. They share interests and may get to know each other, starting with Pokemon games and cards.
Pokemon sparks imagination. Its a way for kids to get outside and play, even if they ARE just playing Pokemon Master or Catch em' all.
Pokemon ignites emotion. It can make you happy when you're sad, through the Pokemon's antics, and when one of the main heroes has a great victory.
It can make you think. Pokemon teaches strategy and in the games, there are sequences you must follow and several items you must get before you progress any further. (Surf, fly, rock smash, cut, strength, etc)
Pokemon can help you learn. If you're into it enough, you'd be willing to do the learning books that Pokemon has provided for learning. ( When I was younger, I got better at math because I wanted to 'help' the characters by solving the math problems. Plus, in Pokemon Diamond version, you must do math to get through Fantina's gym. There are also books to help young kids with reading.
Pokemon boosts self esteem. I've seen people say that the 'Pokemon Master' line is like boasting and trying to be on top of everybody, but I see it as a line that boosts confidence, and like Ash, just believing that you CAN do good in life, and that you CAN do great things if you believe in yourself. For me, just knowing this makes me feel better.
Pokemon is fun. Kids can have lots of fun with Pokemon, because as I've said, it sparks the imagination, leading to many new games and ideas.
There are WAY more things out there that are more evil than Pokemon. Pokemon (in America) does not show any nudity, no sexual content, and no bad language. I know some of you anime fans reading this probably LIKE Porn, but I'm just saying that Pokemon is not evil because it has none of this stuff.
Pokemon brings back wonderful memories, and its funny. The art is good, and Pokemon is an innocent show that hardly has any reference to anything evil. Compared to all the shows we're watching now, (like Hellsing... CHRIS) Pokemon is really good.
If any of you have questions, ideas, or comments, please reply!
