I did have a valid post, I explained it on my third one, which you deleted because someone just didn't like me.
 
If you're just starting out with Linux, I recommend Ubuntu or one of it's variants. It's easy enough to work with and should get you well on the way to deeper, more involving Linux distributions, if you even want to move on from it.

OSX. There's no reason to use an amateur clone of Unix when a commercial product already exists~
 
Alright, you want to shell out the money required to get a Mac? Unless you want to go the illegal route, there's no way you can get a Mac operating system to work on hardware that isn't optimized for the OS. Not to mention that it wasn't his question.

I'm tempted to say something else, but lets keep that to public profile discussions.

Not really, if Mac can use it's "own special hardware" to run Windows, Windows should be allowed to run a Mac
 
It's not a question if Windows will run on Mac hardware, cause as you said, it will. It's a matter of Mac software running on your average Windows hardware.

The Mac OS is designed to work with the hardware you get in the Macs them self. It's a way to keep the operating system fast. Downside is for us system builders, we have little, if any choice in upgrading hardware (assuming the Mac it self allows it).

I just want to say, I believe Microsoft has done a fantastic job making their operating system work on a wide range of hardware settups.

I kinda don't have $300 to spend right now (there's a USB dongle from some company - I think it's Intel - that allows OSX to think your PC is a machine suited for running it going for about that price. It's been almost six months since I last heard about it, so my memory about it is kind of hazy, but I know it exists).
 
Out of curiosity, you found a new Mac at $300? If so, I want to see a link to the product, cause I can't find Macs for lower then $600, and most of them are far higher.

The USB dongle was going for $300, last I checked. ;)

And then buying a copy of OSX is at most another $200 (also out of my price range considering I need a newer car more urgently).
 
I see... Yeah, you should stick to what you've got, no question. And as I said, check out Ubuntu or one of it's variations if you want to start out with Linux. Just be glad I'm not a linux fanboy, else I would have told you to go into some variation where you have to put your own GUI on it.
 
Oh, you mean EFI-X? That's basically commercialized work stolen from the community. All you need is Chameleon Bootloader and a spare HDD to install on. I'm serious. That, and a retail Leopard/Snow Leopard disk.

And as for this "oh hurrr limited hardware, blah blah blah, optimized, blah blah blah" silliness; just stop. As of right now I can put any nVidia 6x/7x/8x/9x/GTX/Sx series card and any ATi 3x/4x/5x series card in a Hacktel machine and it'll work 100% fine. I can use any RAM, any SATA HDD; I can use any Intel Core/2/i5/7 CPU; and even any AMD CPU with SSE2/3 or even Pentium 4/M if I use the Voodoo Kernel. Any Intel x3/4/5 series chipset and a few of the nVidia Chipsets all work a treat, also.

Mind posting your information source? Because I've been running OSX86 for ~14 months now and it's beautiful; better than any store brought Mac because *I* chose my hardware.
 
Really now? I thought Macs being optimized for their hardware was common knowledge. It's not like I was BASHING the operating system blindly, now was it?

What is your problem? Seriously? You've literally contributed less to the topic then I have. And all I'm getting from you is you bashing every operating system BUT OS X blindly, where I've even given reasons why is good!

Oh, I'm not bashing anything. I axshually said I quite liked Windows 7. But having had vastly more experience with alternate OS's than most everybody here; I'm just putting it forward that Linux is not to be considered a serious option and if you MUST have Unix; you should use OSX.

You compared Windows 7 to Vista in a negative way.
You simply refused to acknowledge an OS that that was designed to be free from the start, and has done a GREAT job in achieving that and being very usable for even an average computer user.
Attempted to show superiority over everyone because you claim to be a girl and use a Mac OS, all while refusing to listen to people even when they give reasons why the said OS was GOOD!

I, on the other hand, have actually answered a question AND said why Macs are good!

I've heard that there have been issues with updating something or other (what it was I cannot remember, but there were apparently some issues that involved needed to completely reinstall it or something) in the article I found out about it in that using EFI-X was supposed to have avoided the issues of in the first place (it was a PC World article, I think, but since I'm not home right now, I cannot search for the magazine freely and post questions based on the article). Was that just a load of baloney they were talking about in the article? (I'll probably PM you sometime next week concerning the things mentioned in the article, since I'll have time then).

I personally can use any GUI operating system pretty well if given time to learn a little about it.

EFI-X attempted to locate the critical bootloader "off disk"; which is great in theory but lacks the practicality of Chameleon (which is based on PC_EFI which is what EFI-X stole code from); in that it's VERY feature-less and relies on older methods of booting (for example; no DSDT means you need to hack GPU drivers). Chameleon doesn't touch the core OSX install at all; and you can choose to install it on your boot drive or on a USB drive if you'd like to keep it safe from prying System Update eyes ^_~
