I just hope simplicity does not mean dumbing down for the average casual players to make everything in game be done in under 30min and removing any grinding or stuff like Battle Frontier.

I think they meant in terms of design and avoiding adding new mechanics.

On some other sites, I've seen people speculate that they may be holding the announcement of Z for when the new pokemon sunday/ get TV style show debuts on October 4th.

I think that actually makes a lot of sense, and it's not that far away (lol) so I'm hoping that's how the announcement is carried out.

No new mechanics will become kind of dull after a while, I like the insertion of Sky and Inverse Battles in Gen 6. Triple Battle was great too. I would like to see a battle one day with 6 VS 6.

Or at least the simplification of the ones we have now. Some have suggested that some abilities (like those that are identical and leave only one of them) and moves may be retired (like Splash which is useless).

or they could just give splash an effect. the only real use of the move is to waste time. for example your opponent has 1 pokemon left, have something use perish song then swap out to a wailord & splash til its dead.
then watch your opponent squirm or rage quit as the wailord smiles at them while splashing away

I believe some abilities are the same with a different name because the previous ability didn't worked well with the type of pokemon or it's theme. Splash is just the meme move of Pokemon because Magikarp was considered useless.

Since 2015 won't be seeing any main series releases, I'm hoping that Game Freak used that time wisely to really put quality work into "Z" or whatever it is that we're getting. There's so much that can be done with Kalos instead of just ramming Gen I throwbacks down our throats one after another.

So I watched the new trailer of XY&Z trailer and in the very few first frames of the video greninja is a normal greninja around 0:06. After it uses that move he becomes ash greninja so I am confused right now. The thing is this isn't the first time anime had exclusive forms. I remember that in the dp saga some pokemon could absorb their own moves and change the way looked a bit so we may have anime exclusive again, but then again why promote it and make a big deal about ash greninja.

I noted that earlier here. I think it might be a new mechanic. Let's hope that bonds play an actual role if it is a new mechanic, unlike how Mega Evolution doesn't really take bond into account...

why is everyone so convinced it will be a "Z"?
there are other trademarks that nintendo has yet to use such as:
pokemon topaz
pokemon white gold
pokemon touraline
pokemon moonstone
pokemon brown
pokemon grey
pokemon scarlet
pokemon purple
pokemon crimson
delta emerald
did they even trademark z? cause i wouldn't put it past them to do something like release a pokemon purple while everyone's expecting a letter or a stone.

Probably because X and Y are letters and next is the letter Z. Or maybe it's because the animé series will soon be called "XY and Z".

You know, I suggested early on in this thread the very unlikely possibility that X and Y might get free or paid updates that basically turn them into XZ and YZ, or Z and W, or X v2.0 and Y v2.0, or whatever GameFreak might decide to call them, leaving them with the ability to release something completely different in addition to what we already have, but, again, that's highly improbable since they've never done anything like that ever before.

That should be possible, but Masuda already slammed the doors that long ago before Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are available, that is why there wasn't much uproar for ORAS Mega Stones in XY. {XD} Sneaky guy.

Team Flare appearing in the anime might really mean no prequels, the anime made Steven the champion during AG but then had Wallace say he's the champion in the DP saga, but now Steven is back to being the champion to fit the games. But Lysander unlike Ghetsis doesn't have new clothes and the same admins from XY are used. This all leads me to believe we're getting a third version and Gen VII might explain who the evil team from the past was (or maybe OrAs did that with the group that wanted Hoopa mentioned, or it was Maxie and Archie's former team).

While anime's not a good source for Pokémon gaming, the PokéAni is certainly a great way to tell us the villain teams in games, as they showcase the main villains of the core games. It seems like the ani-department was waiting for the gaming department to reveal them the villains teams of 'Pokémon Z'.

Even though it appears we may go back to getting a 3rd version, I don't think I'm going to jump the gun on that one just yet. More often than not, what happens in the anime doesn't necessarily dictate what will happen in the games, and vice-versa. So far, there hasn't been any indication of the Ultimate Weapon and AZ in the anime yet, has there?

I'm not really sure about a 2016 release for Gen 7... I could be wrong, but to me it's almost rushing things a little bit when it comes to transitioning between Generations. A short release period between games within the same Generation makes sense(FRLG and Emerald), but between the last Gen 6 game and the first Gen 7 game seems a bit much. Then there's also the whole thing about the NX that we have to look at too. IIRC, they're supposed to reveal the first details of the NX at E3 2016 next summer. There's the option that they could release Gen 7 on the 3DS, but then where would they go with the rest of Gen 7 when the NX would be on the horizon by then?

Most likely that will be covered in the XY & Z saga, but I'll not further elaborate as that topic is crossing this section's line.

I'm not sure if you noticed this as well, but Game Freak is slow when it comes to making use of the latest installment. Let me give you a little rundown for the consoles and corresponding game to help us determine the speculations:

• While Gen I games can be played in GBC, they were actually released for GB. The first Gen I pairs were available in year 1996, while GB was first available in Japan in 1989.
• Gold and Silver, the official Game Boy Color games were released in 1999 and GBC was made available in 1998.
• Ruby and Sapphire versions were released in 2002 and Game Boy Advance was available in year 2001.
  And things are noticeably slow starting from Gen IV.
• While Nintendo DS, aka DS Phat unofficially, was made released in 2004. That was the year for Emerald, LeafGreen and FireRed's release! Diamond and Pearl were released in year 2006, it was even later than DS Lite's release. Arguably DP is for DS Lite than DS Phat, thus in a sense they released nothing for DS Phat.
• DSi was released in 2008, roughly a year earlier than HeartGold and SoulSilver's release. While the aforementioned titles didn't really take advantage of DSi, all non-events Pokémon can be obtained without the help of a GBA game pak.
• The first Pokémon core game(s) to take advantage of DSi were released in year 2010, Black and White. While their sequels were released in 2012, 3DS was already available in 2011! The ironic fact that Dream Radar, B2W2's related app, is available for 3DS while the main games aren't for obvious reasons.
• Finally X and Y are in our hands nowadays, which were released globally in 2013.
• The next game(s) we're speculating in this thread? They are surely not for NX! I don't believe it's possible for New Nintendo 3DS either to keep it fully compatible/similar with the current Gen VI games we have.
• Therefore, Gen 7 is mostly released under N3DS. ~So let's not hyped up for a NX yet, as there's none for New Nintendo 3DS yet!

Thank you for providing dates on what I said earlier about GF being behind on the systems. Also Masuda expressed interest in working with what the N3DS has to offer (if they push the limits Gen VII could be N3DS only).

If he said that during pre-ORAS period, then we'll most likely ending up with a New 3DS game for the upcoming title(s) or for Gen 7. :) I translate those words as being rushed by Nintendo to make use of the latest system.

for all we know they might release a pokemon delta emerald Z which will have enhanced versions of both xy & oras all on 1 cartridge with the ability to swap between the 2 on the start up screen which will ask for you to pick one then it will lead to the start up screen of the game you chose.

A Pokémon Delta Emerald Z sounds really interesting, but I doubt it'll happen. Why? Because ORAS is a remake. And we all know that remakes (FR/LG & HG/SS) never got a third version. :3

Also, if they go with Pokémon Delta Emerald Z, with the ability to switch between region/gameplay, would that mean the game will provide two saved files? I don't think that'll happen either. :/

But hey, we're here to speculate anyway~

That would be cool. I think Masuda said that though to make "Z" even less predictable -_-...

The thing I noticed is that every Pokémon movie uptil now has always been released in July in Japan. Pokémon BW2 was released just 1 month before the 15th movie which featured Kyurem. The next movie will most likely also be released July next year, So we will probably see the next game(s) before then. I hope we see it earlier than June though.

As hackers revealed long time ago, there are 2 games left that are compatible with XY and ORAS. However, it seems the next game will be called Z unlike our thoughts of it being XZ YZ / X2 Y2 / etc. And thus we are left with one open spot for a game to be compatible with the other games. (As this 'Z' version takes up one of the two spots)
Several things point out we're getting the old classical single third game next year:
- The Anime title has been updated to XY & Z. Previously, it was just XY, named after the related games X and Y. Since the title has added a Z, it seems likely the next game will be called Z.
- We speculated that the new game(s) would have their own Zygarde forme as mascot with both of these formes respectively to learn Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves.
We've learned there are no 'version exclusive' formes. Just the 10%, 50% and 100%. Meaning that a single game would go perfect with these formes.

My other concern is that Pokemon GO showed a timeline with a hint towards the next generation. The timeline has a dot at 2016, with a blank spot. This (presumed) third version will be released next year in 2016. But what about the hinted Gen VII? Will the next gen be released in the same year or is the dot/mark just a dot/mark for Pokemon GO?

I'm not convinced of anything.... I'm only using "Z" as a placeholder name until we get an official name, and it's a fitting placeholder name now that the anime is going to be using Z in the title. I don't have the patience or the time to list all of the possible names of the upcoming game(s) so putting the letter Z in quotation marks is much easier. Didn't you see that I said "or whatever it is" after I said Z? That means that I think that anything is possible right now.
