I'm sure this thread has been created before, but I'm going to repost. Out of all the thousands upon thousands of Yu-gi-oh cards available for people to use, which card to you deem to be the most versatile, playable, useful, and unique card of all? Like, I'm talking top tier staples.

    Book of Moon.
    Quick-Play Spell
Flip 1 face-up monster on the field into face-down Defense Position.

Okay, it is probably not the best card ever, but it wins due to its uniqueness. On the surface it is a -1, but it is the BEST -1 in the game ever. It disrupts Synchros, removes your opponent's big beatsticks, negates attacks, and saves your monsters from almost anything (plus it is good in corner cases as well, like doing in your opponent's Effect Veiler attempt on your Black Rose Nuke[tm] because it is facedown at the resolution!). Extremely versatile, fitting in almost every deck ever (doesn't get stopped by Decree and is a Quick-Play Spell), I would say that is where my vote goes.

I have to agree with Cirrus here. Book of Moon stops synchro attempts, big pushes with boss monsters, Fusions (if that's even still played), and pretty much every effect having to deal with a face-up monster, because of it's unique quality, and it's Quick-play attribute is a huuge plus. Although it's a minus 1, I quote, 'it is the BEST -1 in the game ever', -Cirrus, 2010. :>

In my deck, I'd probably rely on Mage Power of Mist Body aton.

    Runner-up:

    Solemn Judgment
    Counter Trap
Pay half of your Life Points. Negate the activation of a Spell Card / Trap Card / Normal Summon / Flip Summon / Special Summon and destroy the Spell Card, Trap Card, or Summoned monster.

Deserves to be Runner-Up for sure. For half your Life Points (and really, who cares about Life Points anyways?) you get to "Counter target spell". The Magic the Gathering comparison is obviously Counterspell; I will always play Blue in Magic and I will always play Solemn Judgment in Yu-Gi-Oh. I mean come on; you get to kill a card with your own card. This card stops your opponent's big monster / spell / trap dead in its tracks (as long as they haven't played it already) for basically nothing. It is called Declaration of God for a reason. Unfortunately, it gets stopped by Royal Decree and Trap Stun, two very commonly played cards. Also, it requires you to Set it first before you activate it. That is why it is not first place, but it is a legitimate runner-up.

Royal Decree is a very specifically powerful card, but not very versatile at all and is only playable in a handful of Decks (turbo decks and decks running a very large Spell count). Nor is it useful in multiples, unlike the cards I mentioned earlier. It has one purpose in life: to wipe away your fears of Solemn Judgment, Solemn Warning, Dimensional Prison, and so on. With it on your side of the field the only things you will be afraid of are Book of Moons and the occasional Enemy Controller when it is your turn. However, it doesn't do very much OUTSIDE that role.

    Let me quote Apple Juice.

Well I disagree with Solemn Judgement, despite it's awesome effect in most decks it might hurt more than help, like with those decks that eat away at your life points. Also what happens if your opponent expects SJ? Well then you just made your opponent's job much easier.

Anyway I just want to highlight on Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. That thing will kill you if you;re not too careful. Here's the pic:

This thing is deadly. It has good attack power, 6 stars so very easy to summon, and it's effect. Quite simply if you run a deck that requires lots of draws, you'll love Brionac. It's what stops everything. Combine this with Solemn Judgement to destroy something that might destroy Brionac, you're unstoppable.

    Messieurs.

I agree only somewhat with Brionac, although for altogether different reasons than what you give, inferuno no tsunami-kun (I would actually think rekka no tsunami would be more appropriate, tbh... 烈火の津波?) ; its attack is fairly mediocre, but its effect is extremely powerful... probably the second best -1 in the game (sometimes it is a 0, as well). Though of course the effect is doable only on your turn, it doesn't even matter if you're just going to outright kill your opponent. I would definitely not say this was the top candidate though... it is very powerful, but not nearly as versatile as I like my cards, and it is not usable without a Tuner.

Brionac isn't really that versatile, and although it's an amazing card, I don't think it qualifies for just this.

but I quote Cirrus when I say, I somewhat agree.

I think, if you used a deck with the ability to Syncho Summon, then Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, tops Brionac any day. Remove three cards, one from the hand, graveyard and field? Rediculous!

Buuut, not all decks can use it, so I would say, not the best. I would have to agree with everyone who said Book of Moon is the most versatile card in the game.

Trishula is awesome because of its awesomeness value. Not because its effect is EXTREMELY powerful.. you can win against a Trishula about a bit more easily than against a Brionac (who can just go for game against you). Its effect is a guaranteed two-for-three, however... unless your opponent's graveyard sucks in which case it's just a two-for-two. And it removes them from play.

Except it can be simply said "no" to by Decree. Which is why it's second.

Also less versatile than Book in my opinion.
