Your favorite JRPG series?

Tales of Vesperia is easily the best JRPG I've played.

Are pokemon and mario really jrpgs? I know they're rpgs... and they were made in Japan... but their style is just so different from the usual... final fantasy sort of thing.
Pokémon is a turn-based game and turn-based battle systems are one of the major indicators of JRPGs. It's not the be-all end-all of them, of course, but since Pokémon is somewhat story-based and has the typical system, it's definitely a loose JRPG at the very least. Though I don't personally include it when talking about JRPGs, usually.

As for Mario, it's typically not an RPG at all but some of its spinoffs have RPG elements, and though I haven't played it, I think Super Mario RPG could, well, be an RPG. :P And Paper Mario (at least the first two) have the turn-based system and are plot-based games rather than platformers, so I'd consider them RPGs too, to some extent.

Lesse...

Dragon Quest
Final Fantasy
Earthbound
Xenosaga I-III
Chrono Trigger
Paper Mario
"Tales of" series

I think I've played some more RPGs, though I don't know if they would count as your traditional JRPG or not.

The only games I continued to bother myself with for almost all of the whole series was Final Fantasy. There are other series that I like though. Dragon Quest always interested me, and I'd say others like the Chrono games and Golden Sun, but two games don't really make a series for me.

Interestingly enough, the Chrono series is actually comprised of 3 games that I know of; Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, and Chrono Cross. But Radical Dreamers is a text based adventure game. Note how I'm using the word game loosely.

other than pokemon? havent played many but i quite enjoyed earthbound and kingdom hearts.

FINAL FANTASY
Pokemon
Mario (SMRPG and Mario & Luigi RPG games)

Yeah, I'm shallow this way.

Persona!!!

I srsly love those games.
If you're looking for a different kind of jRPG then thats the game you want to play.

Tales of Series

Definitely my most favorite. Most likely because Tales of Symphonia was the first Tales of Series Game that I have ever defeated, but Tales of the Abyss was awesome as well, and I can't wait to get a new PS2 so I can finally finish Tales of Legendia. xD; But for the one that I did finish: graphics are wonderful, the battle system is amazing, and the music is really nice as well. :D

Yeah, almost forgot about those.

Next too persona its definitly the Tales of series.
I've played:
Tales of Symphonia
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Tales of Phantasia
Tales of Eternia
and a few more can't remember tham all sorry.

The Shin Megami Tensei franchise is probably the only JRPG franchise I like. Granted, the only game from the franchise that I've played was Persona 4 (which I've yet to finish), but still.

You have got to try Persona 3, but get the Persona 3 FES edition for it has a few extra's, and a sequel called "The Awnser".

Although it's not a series, TWEWY is, imo, the best video game of all time. No other game has actually got me addicted to it; unable to put it down, even after I finished it. And, like most JRPGs, it hardly has any endgame content. It's quite special, actually, that it has any at all, although what it does have is sort of a glorified New Game +, I guess.

My favorite series thus far are Death Note, Gantz, and Samurai Champloo. Some of my favorite movies are Akira, Tekkonkinkreet...of Bleach and Inuyasha, and play alot of JRPG's. If you could base your recommendations mainly off.

Tales of Series
My top favorite series. I have all of the games in some form or another except for Graces and Radiata Mythology 2. My favorites are ToS:DotNW and ToA.

Baten Kaitos
I don't really like the battle system, but I really appreciate the creativity behind the game and the characters, especially in the second game.

Golden Sun
I pretty much grew up playing GS on the GBA. I love the psynergy and dijinn abilities. I'm really looking forward to playing the DS one.

not series, but individual games:
+ Final Fantasy IX
+ Star Ocean 2
+ Odin Sphere
+ Arc Rise Fantasia
