  • My parents know I watch and they don't care much about it (as long as I help around the house from time to time). My friends know as well, and I like how Pokemon seems to be the topic in most conversations among certain friends.

  • My mum thought I was stupid when I asked to go shopping so I could buy Pokemon Black... she was like "oh you still play that? That's stupid none of your friends will play it anymore". Even though one of my best friend's who I haven't seen for 6 months, said he bought pokemon black last time I saw him. I hate things like this, if you want to play Pokemon, Sonic, Crash, or anything for that matter, you shouldn't be criticized for it.

  • They know it!

Yup, my parents have seen me watching Pokemon episodes on pc and my college friends know it as well. Proud to be a Pokemon fan
Have you ever told your parents that you are still watching Pokemon, or did they found out by them self? Did they make jokes about that, or did they seriously told you to grow up? My parents don't know that i watch Pokemon, and i'm not afraid of telling that to them (they would just find that a childish).

  • Most of my family knew that I still watch Pokemon. They found my DVR recordings of Pokemon Black & White. They didn't make any jokes or remarks or anything like that. It did feel a bit awkward though...being 21 and still watch Pokemon...but I just set it aside and watch it normally. :)

  • My friends more likely knew that I'm a huge poke-fan but I'm still trying not to let my parents know XD But it still happened. My sister knew that I was a poke fan but she just ignores me XD They knew that I like Pokemon and they're starting to call me pokemon or mention ''pokemon'' whenever they saw my FB profile [that time, I used a lot of pokemon pics]. XD

  • Meh...

I am a Pokemaniac. Everyone knows I like Pokemon. It has never really been a source of shame for me.

  • You're on of the lucky ones then. I wish I and I'm sure others too could be as open as you.

Well? Why can't you be? ;)

The trick is to be confident in your interest. If you don't act like you are embarrassed, or should be embarrassed, chances are that people won't look down on you for it. Just don't become overbearing with it, don't bring it up in every conversation. Most people don't usually think "ZOMG! POKEMANZ! THAT GUY IS IMMATURE!". As a matter of fact, there are a lot more Pokemon fans out there than you think. I know I've gotten a lot of high-fives from random passer bys because of my Pikachu shirt.

From people knowing you like Pokemon, the fact that you watch the show is nothing jarring at all.

  • My parents are fully aware that I still watch Pokémon today, but it doesn't bother them and they don't think any lesser of me by doing so. It's never really been a problem with my mom or dad that I'm still into watching Pokémon, or playing the games for that matter. It's something I like and they get it.

I know some parents can be very different though, and difficult too, so in this regard I consider myself lucky.

  • My dad knows I started watching the anime again. He was surprised at first since that I haven't watched it since I was 14. He and my brothers notice I still watch it. My dad's reaction is the same reaction he has towards me watching My Little Pony. He doesn't care what I watch, as long as it's not porn. Same goes for my brothers (in fact my little brother is a brony himself.) They do make jokes about how I'm watching a kids show though, but that's about it.

  • My parents know I'm obsessed with Pokémon and have just grown to accept it. There's no point in me trying to hide it or anything. Most people at my school know me as 'the kid who likes Pokémon'. There are a few patronising comments, but most people support it. A lot of the people in my year play and watch Pokémon anyway.

I know what you mean...life's hard when you try your best to avoid being insulted. My parents don't even know that I have an account in this website, nor that I like Pokemon. If they found out, they would cut my Internet time (I know...they are really strict) from 30 minutes to 15. Fortunately, they seem to mind their own bussiness when im in my room, So I enjoy playing while I can! But I have other problems...little brothers. Never leaves me alone, tells my mom if I'm using the Internet and other loads of stuff. Anyway, my point is that liking Pokemon doesn't make you strange or anything. Don't care what others think about you.

  • They told me to get over it back when I was 10, and said it was for little kids and I was growing up. They also didn't want me telling my classmates that I liked pokemon. Eventually though, I found other people that also liked it, and my parents learned that it was just a part of me and my childhood. I only watch a few of the older episodes though, only peeking here and there at the new episodes while my little sister watches them in the mornings.

  • This thread is turning more into a "Does your parents know you are involved with pokemon or like pokemon." "Do people in general know I am a pokemon fan." More then do they know you watch the Pokemon Anime specifically. So as of now this is in Pokey Gen. If this isn't the place you feel it should belong Toujours you are more then welcome to move it.

  • I think my mom gave up on me letting Pokemon go haha. She never seemed to mind. I think she really quickly realized I am probably always going to be a child at heart. I like a lot of cutesy and childish things and still like plushies, so yeah. She doesn't really care. I think she feels like everyone should have something they do for entertainment. My dad thinks it's cool I have something I've been into for so long and hold so near and dear to my heart. No one else in my family seems to mind either, and has contributed to it in some way, whether they know it or not haha.

As for friends and such, they don't care. And believe it or not, once you get in college, you'll find that a lot more people play Pokemon than you realize. Heck, there was a group of friends that went to a coffee shop every Thursday night just to hang out and play Pokemon together. I was invited but never went lol. :(

POINT IS. No one cares, and no one should! It's just a game. Or show. Or whatever you mainly do in the franchise. Unless it's harming you or someone else, it shouldn't be a problem.

  • My parents know that I watch Pokemon. They think I'm acting like a baby 'cause I watch it. But they react more if I play Pokemon non-stop.

skimming along this whole thread seems like a masked "adult entertainment anonymous" thread :P But I lost interest in the series for a while near the end of High School and now I'm back in full force as much as when I was a kid. Only people I don't tell about it are the girls I'm interested in until I can figure out if they'd be cool with it.
