Ok, I am restarting my Sapphire version and I am going to play it all through Christmas Vacation. Also, an extra note. Mono Steel type teams are a big failure.
This team proves my point about mono-type teams, and this isn't even one. Salamence can come in on this team and Fire Blast this team at will, especially since it is quicker than any Poke here and resists most of their attacks. Most Water-types will have an easy time here as well, since most carry an Ice move that will make Cradily cry, especially without Recover or Rest. Magneton is surprisingly absent from this team too, as is Registeel, but I will assume you are avoiding Legis.
I fixed your statement for you. Swampert has a MUCH easier time in-game than Blaziken does, especially in a few gyms where you must resort to either using healing items or switching out or having Blaziken be a higher level. All you need to do to beat In-Game in R/S/E is to use Swampert.
Personally, I would take out Articuno and add a more versatile special attacker. Alakazam, Gengar, and Starmie really shine when paired with Salamence and Milotic. Good luck.Hey just thought I'd list some of my lv100 Pokemon I use for teams in the Battle Frontier, please give any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. These are all Pokemon for use in the Battle Frontier. I already have Silver Medal in all places but am having trouble getting any Gold Medals.
Articuno (Lv100) @ Shell Bell/Lum Berry
Quiet
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Substitute/Toxic
- Sleep Talk/Protect/Reflect
A couple things. First, don't use the noobish MR/SC combo. It is a cheap and stupid combo that will fail you, especially against an opponent that isn't too stupid to not switch out. Besides, Articuno learns too many cool moves anyway. Next, don't use those crappy held items that only power up one move type by only 10%. It is too limiting and ineffective. Next, don't bother listing a Poke's stats since they don't mean too much in a rating. EV and IV stats are preferred. Lastly, now that you know about natures, feel free to breed for the correct ones. Might as well EV train with them while you are at it to make them even stronger.
As for your Articuno, I like taking advantage of its Pressure Ability by having it Rest and able to Sleep Talk or even Protect. Putting up a Sub is always nice. Reflect is a great phazing move for the rest of your team.
Metagross (Lv100) @ Choice Band
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Explosion
- Earthquake
- Shadow Ball
CBgross is a terror. Adamant makes it hit harder and Psychic isn't necessary. Use Explosion instead so you can go boom on something when its HP is low.
Milotic (Lv100) @ Leftovers
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Hypnosis
Milotic should have Leftovers. Double Team is another noob move. As you said, it takes ENTIRELY too long to get the crappy move to even work half decent. You are MUCH better off breeding for Hypnosis, in order to do in one move that it is taking you over 20 moves to do - prevent your opponent from attacking. Since you are breeding anyway, might as well make it Bold and give it max Def EVs so that it can be an all-purpose tank. Milotic rocks, when used correctly.
Walrein (Lv100) w/Leftovers
Quiet
HP 377
ATK 218
DEF 207
Sp.ATK 250
Sp.DEF 203
SPD 157
Surf, Ice Beam, Earthquake, Sheer Cold
Not even needed with both Articuno and Milotic on the team. Use with UU team.
Salamence (Lv100) Choice Band/Shell Bell/Lum Berry
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance/Rock Slide
- Fire Blast/Brick Break
- Aerial Ace
Salamence is a MUCH better physical sweeper. You can go with either DD (breeding) or CB variant. I prefer CBmence since it gets an attack boost without missing a turn. FB is for Steel-types and BB is for Normal-types.
Most of the time I won't use Walrein with Milotic, only 1 or the other, and I rarely use Salamence these days. Articuno and Metagross are a powerful team in 2-on-2, and Articuno also pwns in 1-on-1 with Mind Reader/Sheer Cold. Milotic is almost unbeatable, once it has enough evasiveness it dodges everything and when it gets hit Recovers. It can make very slow battles though, which is why I use it mainly as a last resort. I would gladly appreciate any suggestions, thoughts.
I do have a Lv100 Gengar, should I use that? What moves should it have? And yeah sorry but I really don't spend enough time on the game to go back and train up all new Lv100 Pokemon with the right natures, as much as I hate having a Timid Salamence and Rash Metagross, and would love a Bold Milotic. Should Articuno be Quiet, or should it have been Modest or Bold or other ATK lowering nature?shanecdavis said:Personally, I would take out Articuno and add a more versatile special attacker. Yeah I wish it had Hypnosis and I wish it was Bold, I have a Milotic like that Lv50 (obviously after I found out about natures) and it pwns, but I never had the time to train to Lv100.shanecdavis said:Milotic should have Leftovers. No problem. I still suggest breeding though. Prioritizing (and not leveling up to Lv100) can really cut down on the time it takes you. Good luck.Yeah I meant to write Leftovers on Milotic, sorry about that.
BTW did I mention I don't battle other people or anything like that, only Battle Frontier (which is why MR/SC works so well, AI isn't smart enough to switch out) and I don't even play that often. Yes I know about natures but I didn't when I got the Metagross/Milotic/Salamence, and I really don't play often enough to train another one of each up to Lv100.
To each their own, I guess. Just keep in mind that you will have the capability with the Nintendo DS and Diamond/Pearl to battle others using the WiFi feature. Personally, I try to make the pathetic AI at least challenging, and the crappy MR/SC combo is not. It is boring, along with Wobbuffet and Double Team. I also don't play very often. My time is quite limited, with so many more important responsibilities (family, work, sports, other interests, etc.), so I have found shortcuts in training. For example, I have added multiple Secret Bases on my Emerald cart so that I can speed up my EV training. I have also abused the Pick Up Ability (I have a team of Lv91 Linoone), that allows me get useful items like Rare Candies, vitamins, and TM26. VERY valuable. I also battle Gabby the Reporter a lot for good quick experience. I also use Emerald for my breeding since it can take half the time of the other carts. Things like that. If there is a will....
EVs are Stat. Exp right? So by EV training do you mean like fighting Sandshrews over and over again to get a certain amount of DEF, etc? And to list EV stats I have to count how much I got for each stat? Or is there some way to figure out my EV stats? Sorry if this is n00bish of me but I really don't spend heaps of time on this.
EVs are "Effort Values", and yes they accumulate every battle your Poke is involved in. There are shortcuts here too. I EV train one Poke and then have 5 other Pokes hold the Exp Share. Not only do they get some of the Exp Points in the battle, but they also get the EV points that were associated with the battle as well. I also train with the Macho Brace which will double the EV points my target Poke will get. As I said before, I also have multiple SBs that I can train in, once a day. They are filled with certain Pokes (i.e 6 Clefairy - 3 HP EVs each) that will quickly up my EVs in a targeted stat. That took some time since I had to restart my Ruby cart every time I mixed records and got another SB location on my Emerald, but it was VERY MUCH worth it. As for figuring out your EVs, there is no easy way. I just use a simple spreadsheet.
I agree that sort of Articuno would be a great strategy, except I don't really spend enough time on the game to endure continuous long battles, I will use Milotic for that purpose when the need arises. With Articuno, Aerial Ace is for against other Pokemon with Double Team, BTW, which there are many of in the Battle Frontier.
Sorry, I find it amusing that your second statement contradicts your first statement. The Articuno strategy still allows it to attack while it is asleep, making it much faster than the faulty DT Milotic strategy that takes WAY too many turns to even be useful. Just apply all the time that you take with the DT Milotic strategy into breeding your Milotic to have Hypnosis (breed a male Poliwag that knows Hypnosis (Lv7) with a female Milotic/Feebas) and a Bold nature and you will be ready in no time. As for Aerial Ace, your Salamence also has it and can do more damage with it than Articuno can (Articuno base Atk = 85 while Salamence base Atk = 135).

Gengar rocks. It should be Focus Punch/Giga Drain/Substitute/Thunderbolt or Ice Punch. Personally, I wouldn't train them up to Lv100. I would raise them only to Lv55 (where Metagross learns MM). I didn't change Articuno's nature because you cannot breed it. I should be Calm though, to maximize its SDef.
Yeah I wish it had Hypnosis and I wish it was Bold, I have a Milotic like that Lv50 (obviously after I found out about natures) and it pwns, but I never had the time to train to Lv100.
Again, it is up to you. Hypnosis is an incredible move on Milotic, and a Bold Nature really makes it difficult to KO, especially when it gets statused and its Def is increased by 1.5. You don't have to have your Pokes be Lv100 to battle in the Open Level in the BF. Earn your Gold Symbols and then after that you can take your time and level them up after. The only limitations are the ones you are adding.
Sorry if I'm asking a lot, but thanks a lot for all your help, much appreciated.
Not sure if you are trying to make the game challenging by using these Pokes (besides Swampert) or not. I know the AI is pathetically weak, but if it can KO Swampert than you could be in trouble. Relying on too many offensive Pokes will fail you, especially competitively or in the Battle Frontier. Upgrade a few Pokes and you should be fine.I'm on Emerald and about to go to the Underwater Cave. Please rate my team. NB. This is my current team, but the moves that I am trying to teach them!
Marshtomp Level 44 @ Leftovers/Chesto Berry
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
-Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rest/Protect
-Earthquake
Swampert is the best starter in Poke, with good reason. Great base stats and a great typing, with only one weakness that it can cover with a great move in Ice Beam. Rest is nice since its stats allows it to take hits while it is sleeping (or you can use Chesto for a free turn). Protect allows Leftovers to get in an extra turn, and is a great Slaking counter. Swampert ftw.
Raichu level 44 @ Leftovers/Lum Berry
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
-Thunderbolt
- Focus Punch
- Substitute
- Wish/Thunder Wave
Raichu isn't a good option here, but it is your team. It does have a pretty good base Atk (90), so you can SubPunch pretty effectively, although its poor Def won't allow it to last long at all. You need to breed for Wish, so Thunder Wave is an adequate alternative.
Magcargo Level 44 @ Leftovers
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Protect
- Yawn
- Light Screen/Reflect
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
Magcargo has good defenses, but it being Fire-type really hurts it. Being weak to both Water and Ground sucks hard. Also, NEVER give physical moves (even STAB) to Magcargo. Its base Atk is a paltry 50. Its best strategy is to Yawn, Protect, phaze, and then switch to a better Poke.
Whismur Level 44 @ Choice Band/Leftovers
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Body Slam/Return
- Brick Break/Howl
- Earthquake/Shadow Ball
- Shadow Ball/Substitute
I would also advise against Exploud, but I will also say it is your team. Whismur has good Atk and HP, but its defenses and speed hurt it. It isn't fast enough to sweep and it isn't strong enough to tank. It is a poor man's Munchlax. I would Sub, Howl, then attack, or you can use the CB set. Body Slam or Return is your preference, depending on if you want power vs. hax. Earthquake or Shadow Ball is also preference (if using Sub over CB). Shadow Ball is for if you want to hit Flying/Levitating types that are immune to Normal attacks.
Machoke Level 43 @ Leftovers/Shell Bell
Trait: Guts
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Cross Chop
- Rock Slide
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Poor one-dimensional Machoke. Four Fighting moves is bad strategy. Adding Rock Slide (through breeding) will cover its big Flying weakness. This set makes Exploud expendable, especially with Wish on Raichu. Putting Machamp to sleep will activate Guts, which will make Cross Chop or Rock Slide hit incredibly hard. This thing destroys teams.
Mightyena Level 43 @ Spell Tag (or whatever the item is called that raises ghost moves)
-Crunch
-Shadow Ball
-Dig
-Take Down
Meh. Limited movepool and crappy base SAtk make this one not even worth fixing. You REALLY need a Poke that can handle a few special attacks. Gardevoir, Milotic, Slowbro, Jynx, Lapras, or Umbreon would be good choices here.
:t131:Micklo
I would use Gengar instead of Espeon because Levitate is much cooler than Synchronize. Gengar SS'ing Metagross is also scary. This isn't one of my teams, but i was thinking about it, since it looks like it could be pretty good, and I like how simple it is.
Espeon
[held item is not important]
Psychic
Skill swap
Calm mind/ protect
baton pass/ protect
Slacking
[maybe leftovers, again, not a big issue]
EQ
return
Substitute
Focus punch
It's really simple, espeon uses skill swap, and slacking wails on anything and everything. I used Espeon here, but I guess anything with skill swap works, it's just nice to have psychic because it OHKO's Gengar, and alot of other stuff.
