Your thoughts on fishing?

Fishing is something I often forget exists in the games, I do it so little. What's your opinion on it? Do you find fishing to be a decent minigame and not require further complication, or do you, like me, wish that it had a little bit more depth and complexity - changes that would make it something other than a "press A when prompted" simulator?

I really enjoy fishing- when I do it. I agree, I will often forget about the existence of the Fishing Rods after awhile. Now that Chain fishing exists, I think I would fish more, but I don't have any Gen VI games :(
Maybe they could add in a chance to just pull up a random item from time to time? :p

I never fish, but I like that it exists. It makes the environment feel more interactive rather than "there's some water there" acting as a barrier, yknow? I only really fish for specific 'mons, like what colours said :3

The only time I would fish is when I wanted to catch certain Pokémon. Aside from that, I don't find much incentive to fish at all. I do think adding a bit more complexity to the mechanic would make it more fun, though, haha.

I love it for shiny hunting, I wish more water Pokémon were available by fishing. Such as Lotad, Marill and Finneon.
My longest fishing chain without a shiny was a chain of 201 that I broke purposely. Looking for a Horsea though Skrelp was also available.
My shortest fishing chains include Magikarp at 7, Tentacool at 9 and Relicanth at 12. My longest chain with a shiny was Remoraid at 105, followed by Corsola at 97.

Though it's a nightmare when you keep getting the same crap over and over again looking for a shiny, like Magikarp when you're looking for a Tentacool or Poliwhirl and Basculin with Dratini.
Since I think the chain breaks when you find a shiny it comes down to number of chains/shinies found rather then number of encounters. Like shiny Dratini costs 20 shiny Poliwhirl's. Or 20,000 poke dollars depending on how many net, quick or dusk balls you waste trying to catch them.

Fishing has long been my least favorite things, in both real life and in the Pokémon games. In fact, recent generations made the mechanic more complicated by requiring that you quickly press the A button upon seeing the "!!" above your head in order to start a battle with the hooked Pokémon, whereas I remember Generations I and II simply printing "Oooh! A bite!" if something did hook without having to press anything in the meantime, only pressing A/B to finish the message and start the battle or try again if there wasn't even a nibble. With the current mechanic, it's very difficult for me to respond to the '!!" quickly enough-one sliver of a millisecond off, and the Pokémon will get away.

I actually really love to fish in the games! But I don't bother fishing until I get the Super Rod unless if I want a water Pokémon asap.

I would fish for hours looking for just the right catch, especially in DPPT, I would look for hours for a good enough Feebas & Dratini

Side note for anyone who has played RSE: Did you ever look for/find Feebas?
