You're sentenced to a death

i'm completely against the death penalty

No one has the right to remove someone else's right to life, no matter what they've done to someone else

So, basically, you're saying that if a mass murderer who wreaks complete havoc and can't be kept in prison shouldn't be sentenced to the death penalty?

It's time to face reality; we would have to board every single criminal in prison, which would soon make up half of our taxes. Also, prisons have no guarantee that no one will escape.

The death penalty is a fairly dumb way of thinking, it has huge risk and all it does is cause more death.

Why wouldn't a mass murderer be in prison, people don't actually escape from prison anymore, and if they were then we should fix that problem instead of just killing people. which is worth more sane MURDER or IMPROVEMENT

Ah there are many threads covering the same topic but thats alright, the more the better! Anyways I do not support the death penalty. I believe that all life is sacred. And fighting fire with fire gets you burned.(Not sure wtf i just said) Nothing good comes from it. So what, the killer is going to die. that means he wont be able to suffer for his crimes. Great. Just what we needed.

Exactly, "let's throw snow to stop the avalanche". it just doesn't help things

I'd also like to point out that crime rates are generally lower in states where capital punishment is legal.

Wrong. The percentage of crimes committed in the US states that have the death penalty far exceeds those here in the UK.

It works for us over here on the other side of the pond. We here in the UK do just fine supporting our justice system.

As you can probably tell, I do not support the death penalty. As bad as the crime they committed was, they are still human and thus deserve their human rights one of which is The Right To Life.
As much as I don't like the phrase "Human life is sacred", I do think that no human should be murdered.

After all;

Sarcasm time children!

And life in prison costs a lot on a side note, countries can't afford that. Might as well put them all on an island...
Woo, let's found Australia 2.0!

Yea, youre right. Mabye we build a giant reserve and put a game fence up to keep prisoners? x__x

What comes around, goes around. You kill someone, you'll be put to death. People are too soft even on criminals these days, no wonder while we Westerners are losing our respect, influence and power, Russia and China will soon take our place, and you have no idea how they treat their criminals.

I never really liked the death penalty. Personally, it's saying that the government has the right to take the life of a human whether regardless of their willingness. I don't believe anyone has the right or should have the right to do it. I do think there are people that shouldn't live any longer, just not killed against their will by another human being.

When did America ever lose influence and power? America has pretty strict laws, otherwise they wouldn't hold more than 1/4 of the prison population. Europe is a different story, but I don't consider them as Western as America.

The problem is that guilty in a court of law does not necessarily mean actually guilty. Juries these days seem to be more concerned with going home than actually judging the case, and some people even come to conclusions before all the evidence is even presented. Add in police corruption and the fact that the poor can't afford good lawyers, and you have plenty of false convictions against people who did nothing wrong at all.

I don't think anyone would want to kill anyone if they didn't have to. The death penalty is basically used as an example. People for it say it's a deterrent to would-be murderers and other bad folk while people against it say it shows that the executioners are no better than murderers themselves. So it's a balancing act. Does it do a better job of deterring or does the fact that it's sanctioned by some authority get ignored, leaving a 'killing is justified' message more often than a 'killing is wrong' one?

I'm inclined to believe that we should lead by example and that people shouldn't be killed regardless of who is being killed and who is doing the killing.

Besides, it is shown not to be a deterrent, seeing as the USA has a far, far greater percentage of prisoners per capita than over here in Europe where the death penalty has been abolished.
