Yu-GI-oH

yeah the "shadow realm" is just a cover-up for death. i'm pretty sure. i think i read somewhere that in the original version, not the dub, it is death but in the U.S. more younger kids watch the show so they changed it to the "shadow realm" or something like that.

yep that's right and the part that stinks about it is it's obvious to the older people who watch it and it isn't to the littler kids I mean just the other day I was wlking to my homeroom in school and a little kid who doen't look like he's more than 4 or 5 walks by telling his dad "do you know what Yami did today?" and that morning Cartoon Network had shown the episode where Yami and Bakura had dueled in the shadow realm and Joey Tea and Tristan's souls were trapped in their fav. cards and a little 4 year old was watching that

yeah i know what you mean. it is so unfair tous that they aim it towards the little kids. (i really like that episode though!) but my sister watches it with me and she's 10. i don't think she even gets it until i explain it to her. it's not just 6 year olds who watch the show and that is unfair that they think that.

I can see a 10 year old watching it and understanding it but seeing the 4 year old just sorta killed me (by the way that was one of my fav. episodes too)

yeah, i really don't think it's appropriate for a 4 year old to watch. it is rated Y-7 but even that bothers me a little. 4 year olds should be watching stuff like blue's clues not yu-gi-oh. no wonder people think it's for little kids.

Really?
I've been watching Yu-gi-oh since I was 10 years old.

I've been watching Yu-gi-oh since it made it's first appearence on American T.V.

Just wandering but does anyone here just hate the way they edited the show like were someone punched somebody else and they try to pass it of as either a shove or just completely edit it out

What did they edit?

Like in the episode "dueling monkey" in duelist kingdom Tristan keeps comenting about how bad a duelist Joey is Joey turnes around real fast and the next screen shows Tristan on the ground saying "You shoved me?" and his face is all scuffed like he had just been punched
then there's the episode "Everything is realetive" the two guys bust into Kaiba's little lab there and say "Peagasus would like ta have a word wit you" and he's pointing his finger at Kaiba along with the other guy, well in the original they were pointing guns at Kaiba and in the next scene when Kaiba says "You'll never take me alive" he is supposed to hold his brifcase up and a bullet ricochays of it but they had to hedit that out cause they edited the guns too.
also in the last part of "Friends till the end" (battle city) when Kaiba decides to be a little heroic and save Tea he says "meet my BEWD card!" and he throws that card at the guy with the remote's hand and they edited out the peices showing the card acctually stuck in the back of the guys hand and the pieces that the couldn't edit out like the part were the guy runs over and tries to grab the remote again they just edited out the card and then later they edited out the scene were Kaiba pulls the card out of the back of the guys hand.
this is a really minor one but in battle city they edited the word "Spirit" of the front of Tea's shirt.
and they also edited the blood off of Bakura's bandage on his arm.
I also pointed another one out somewere back in one of my other posts
and I could go on for a long time with all the big and small edits and changes they've done in the show that I have noticed.
(alrighty that post just showed how adicted I am to the show huh?)

yeah i hate the way they edit things out so it's suitable for little kids. i started watching the show when it 1st came to the U.S. too. i was probably around 12/13. then i stopped for a few years then last year i got back into it. another thing they edited out was when bakura rips out pegasus' millenium eye he licks the blood off it but they cut that part out too. it's really unfair to us that they edit it though. the show is not made for 5 year olds so they shouldn't change the original show to suit 5 year olds.

=\ I think Yuugiou is more or less for older teens. Not only is death a reoccuring thing in the series, but there's also blood and stuff, too. Btw, in the anime, Bakura didn't lick the blood off of Pegasus' eye... it just showed him licking it afterwards when it was all clean (somehow?) if I remember correctly. ^_^; I wish they'd shown him stabbing himself in the arm to prove his loyalty to Malik, too... but that was only a manga thing. o.o;

I completely agree, though. It's stupid to take something and try to make it appeal to a younger (or older, for that matter) age group. Just leave it the way it was. I mean, for Yuugiou to get so popular in Japan while being aimed at teens, they must have been doing SOMETHING right. Why change it?

Because the dubbers believe it can make more money off of little kids? =\ Much easier for an eight-year old to be mesmerized by Yami Yugi and beg his mom to but him lots of cards and action figures, whereas teenagers are less apt to but things, at least toys anyways. Then again, some teenagers around here are mesmerized by him? >_>;

Also, it might become popular, but it would become evil and ?underground? if retained in it?s not so bad, but apparently to American?s way. Even Pok?mon was knocked here for its maturity in Japan, and it's more hacked up than Yugi.

*shuffles feet* I still collect the cards even if my mom doesn't like it Oh by the way my mom just saw her very first full episode of yu-gi-oh

I really wish they had at least not edited so much stuff out like the Tea's shirt thing I mentioned I don't have any idea why they felt the need to edit that out.

yeah, i don't get why they try to aim it towards younger kids. it's obviously not meant to be for them. it's not fair. they make the toys and stuff for little kids to make money but a lot more older kids/teens would like it if all the merchandise wasn't for 6 year olds. it makes people think it's for little kids when it's really not.

i just started getting the cards this year. it's obviously not meant for kids because for the tcg tournament the prize is a college scholarship. how many little kids are going to enter a tourney to win a scholarship? i just don't get it.

Because the stinkin' censorship of the United States is psychotic, that's why. They probably felt that if T?a had something written on her shirt directly in front of her...um, buxom chest area, it may attract unwanted attention. And, before anyone gets in a tizzy about what I just said, it's only my theoretical opinion.

These companies even edit things that aren't offensive in the Pokemon manga. For example, the Japanese version of Toshihiro Ono's manga had a sign that said "CAFE" -- in ENGLISH mind you. When the English version was released, the word "CAFE" was whited out only to be displayed as a random, blank sign. Don't even ask me why in the world they did that. And another thing that makes me mad is that when someone hits/slaps another, they delete the frames they need to so that that little fight scene isn't shown. Yet, they let these anime girls swing these large and dangerous objects or mallets around that creates much more damage than just a slap or two. 4Kids Entertainment, I shake my fist at you...>_<

Oh yeah, my Mom had watched a full episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! with my friend's little brother when his sister and I went out with some other friends one night during the summer (he likes when my parents babysit him...another thing that boggles my mind, lol). Anyway, when I came back he went home with his sister and my Mom knew I liked Yu-Gi-Oh! and she said she thought it was pretty good...O_o Wow, that's a switch, lol. She's only now beginning to pronounce the title right...

how can i get my mom to like it? she thinks yu-gi-oh! is pronounced yugi-yoga. i have no clue where she got that from. she thinks me watching pok?mon is stupid to. she came up to me when i was online and asked me how i can like this stuff. i just do. then she said something like, "isn't it for 5th graders?" where she got that grade from i will never know cuz when it came to the u.s. and i started liking it was when i was in 6TH grade. i really wish she would just watch it and really like or at least respect the fact that i do.

My mom is one of those people who just doesn't get it she still thinks that yu-gi-oh is for kids I really should get around to showing her some of the more grousom looking cards and tell her it isn't.
the episode she watched was one she had taped for me since here it comes on in the mornigs when I'm getting ready for school I was sick so I decided to watch it my mom insisted on sleeping in the living room to keep me company ( yes my mom is weird aren't they all though?) she turned it on and it was my fave. episode the one were yami duels Bakura in D.K. she killed it she kept acting like it was one of her soap opras like when Yami said "Does that mean he is gone?" and it flips to show Tristan in the graveyard my mom said "no he isn't" and she just about contradicted everything they said and it was anoying a heck I'm still trying to explain who all the characters are.and my dad is still makeing fun of the name :disappoin

I didn't know they edited anything other than maby a couple of slaps and episodes out of Pokemon.

that is my favorite episode. it's so funny. my mom wouldn't want to watch it with me though. even if i was sick. so i guess i'm better off just taping them and watching them in the private of my own room when i get home from school. i mean they really aren't for kids so why does the u.s. have to make it that way?

man you are so lucky I have my own TV all right but my dad won't put it in my room and my mom tapes everything on a DVD that can't be played on either my PS2 or my DVD player (yes my family's other wierd trait in the past 3 months we have become owners of 4 DVD players includeing my PS2, 2 VCRs,and 15 different remotes to control it all)so I pretty much didn't have a choice
does anyones mom or dad get the character's names wrong my mom keeps clling Yami, Yume, or just a nickname the cool one cause I always tell her he's the cooler of the two or she calls Yugi, Yuji, or *cringes* Yogi *mega cringe*.
