I jst watched the first movie in japanese for the first time. Over all I've gotta say i actually mrefer the dub because in a lot of ways it makes more sense and the dubs jst dont add up.

I actually like the japanese with subs so I can get a hint of what they are talking about.

I definitely prefer japanese with subs. 4kids (or who do the dub now?) changes to much and unfortunately my country uses this changes too.
It beginns with the names: Why is it necessary to replace Satoshi with Ash? Or Kojiro with James?
The voices are mainly better in my opinion, too. (Especially Kojiros...)
Sometimes they change the meaning of some sentences (the most easy to find scene is the campfire scene in training daze).
Or to change riceballs/o-nigiri to doughnuts or sandwiches^^
I always try to find the original but it's almost impossible to find complete episodes of the first seasons in the net (Except downloading, but my good old pc and the slow connections won't allow me to download something bigger)I' m going to look for DVDs I guess.
I have to add that I know absolutely nothing about the newer seasons cuz I don't watch them, but the ones that I'm interested in had a terrible dub...

If I could choose, I'd prefer Japanese with the subtitles. I can't understand much of the dialogue when it's standalone. I wouldn't prefer the dub now, but I usually watch it because subs are rare and at least I can understand the dialogue, although with Pokémon, it's not hard to get a gist of what's going on even if you don't understand what the characters are saying most of the time. I kind of treat it as a way to learn more Japanese, when I watch the RAWs that is.

About more than 1 year ago I would've said dub. Why would I want to watch something in another language when I can watch it in English? Well, now, I prefer sub, although they're not really subbed much so the raw. The music is better, the voice acting is better (than either 4Kids or PUSA) and you can see everything that actually happened (only really applies to when 4Kids dubbed and cut stuff).

However, if PUSA kept in the original music I would like the dub more.

I haven't actually watched the 1st movie in Japanese, but apparantly it makes more sense because it doesn't go on about "fighting is wrong", which is a complete contridiction of what the anime and games are about :/ The was no real reason why those Pokemon battling and any other battle were different

I also like Japanese with subtitles the most. But since subs are so hard to get, I'll just watch them raw, even though I don't really understand Japanese much. But with series like Pokemon, it's not too hard to find out what they are saying. ^^ I've started to watch Pokemon in Japanese only a little while ago; it was because I saw a clip on Youtube in Japanese where James leaves his Chimecho. I immediately fell in love with his japanese voice. It's just way better than the English one~ (I still call him James though, it's just stuck in my head :P) James' voice actor is really the main reason I like to watch the Japanese version.

    Actually,

    I prefer Japanese without subs.
:3 You notice so many more things in the episode and get more absorbed. It's POKEMON, not that hard to get even if you don't understand the words.
    (Seems like most people agree.)

I agree completely. That and I think watching it raw is more helpful with Japanese skills than watching it subbed because raw helps you improve listening skills and subtitles aren't always a direct translation.

Well, due to the not-so-good English dubbing, I prefer to watch Japanese dubs, preferably the ones without subs (a.k.a. RAW).

Why? Well most people say that you understand more when there are subtitles, though it works the other way around in my case. I get too focused with the subs that I don't see the action, and that makes me understand it less.

I would have to say i prefer the sub to the dub. though each has its advantages and disadvantages.

    for example:

    dub
    -its in english
-i have related the characters to there english voices (before voice actors where replaced)
-it is horribly edited and redone
    -its become child friendly
    -lots taken out

    sub
    -its original
-it allows you to learn more about other cultures
-its in its complete un-edited form
    it has no disadvantages

You can watch them in Youku. Though it has Chinese subs, at least you can hear your beloved RAWs.

I hate dubs. They ruin the sentences and the sound. Some good dubs voices are the original Ash, Misty and Brock. Besides them, almost all the dubs are screwed. (I said 'almost' because I rarely watch it, and that some ARE good dubs, but I can't name them.

One dub change was when Ash saw Cacnea the first time. Instead of something else (which I forgot), Ash said that Team Rocket must have stolen Cacnea. This got me a lil baffled.

Like many, I prefer the subs too. It's too bad that Pokemon doesn't have much groups who subs them.
I watch the raws too, which is pretty do-able because it's not very difficult to know what is going on.

I prefer jap w/subs but they are hard to find so I just watch the dubbed ones.

Voices are awful in the dubbed ones, but where I live its all I have to watch without searching ages to find episodes.

Well, #PM have starting doing them again recently, but they're always in mkv...although I can still get them on DVD keh. They've also been doing the Battle Frontier grand festival episodes, too

The show is child friendly. Meaning that the Japanese version is just as child friendly as the dub.
    -lots taken out
Besides the some music, what's been taken out of it?

Anyway, I prefer the raw, dub, sub in that order. The raw is pretty easy to inderstand and the dub is right along with the raw in terms of music. Subs aren't bad either, they're just not what I want to watch.

Can you give me examples on how it is edited and redone?

Some chronicles episodes had chunks edited out and put in different places, some flashbacks were changed completely, I remember the episode where Misty left and the episode where Pikachu joined Team Rocket. And need we talk about the sandwhich again? XD But this was back when 4Kids dubbed obviously, haha.

The banned episodes, scenes cut out and dialogue edited could be examples of the dub being more "child friendly" I suppose, which has happened in both dubs, but doesn't really happen often now. From what I can remember from subs, Musashi and Kojiro go on about angels and devils in their motto, which definatly wouldn't be allowed in the dub, even though they're hardly what you would call offensive...but it would never be allowed, for some reason. And it's done whever they mention heven or hell or whatever. Then there's the scene that was cut from the Cheryl episodes. Although yeah, both are pretty much "child friendly"
