I bought a cart of Fire Red from my local GameStop. But let me stop you there. This isn't your average, "Someone made a really twisted hack and I happened to have the misfortune to buy it." No, it was just Fire Red. I wanted it because I had a DS Lite, and therefore, a GBA port to transfer those 'mons from my Kanto adventure and unlock certain pokemon in my Diamond version.
I checked the cart as soon as I got home, much like anyone else who buys a pre-played game. I'm not saying the last owner didn't know what he was doing, but his team was a little mediocre. He was on the bridge just south of Lavender Town, and his strongest pokemon were a level 36 Blastoise, and a Snorlax. I don't remember the details very clearly on the rest of the team, nor on the Snorlax's status very clearly. I decided to start over.
I renamed my trainer Satoshi, after the original Japanese name of Ash Ketchum. Everything is fine when I play the game. I've just made it to Viridian forest with my faithful pokemon by my side. Palmer (Male Bulbasaur) and Tarzan (Male Mankey) are both level eight, while Jerry (Male Rattata) and Yari (Male Spearow) are level six. This is where things start going south.
I've been feeling very strange recently. All of my free time is now glued to the screen of my Nintendo SP. My pokemon never level up… I can't find any wild pokemon to fight anymore… The colors are now washed out, almost monochrome now. I can't hear anything. My character seems listless now, as he's only moving at about half his normal speed. Viridian Forest won't let me pass, so I'm going back to Viridian City, and see what's going on.
As I reach Viridian City, I hear this awful screeching. When my sprite steps inside the city limits, he stops and the screen shakes as a gate materialized behind him. I walk down in the town, trying to get to Pallet, but as I pass by the Pokemon Center, the screen shakes again. I walk down and notice that my path is once again blocked, but this time by boulders. The only option left to me is the Victory Road, even though I don't have any badges.
I take a chance, and notice that the gate is set up much like in Gold and Silver. I try to go up, but two silent guards keep pushing me away. I try the Mt. Silver path. Again, I meet with resistance. All I can do is go down. But when I exit… This… This isn't right…
I'm at the Ruins of Alph. How is this possible? This is supposed to be a remake of the first titles. Johto wasn't even around yet. I then start to hear that haunting melody, the Unown singing their simple little tune. I have no control, Satoshi moves toward the ruins on his own now. As soon as he enters, the screen goes black.
Then I hear the tones… The tones from the Crystal opening. I see eyes at first, before I realize what's going on. The Unown are trying to speak to me. I look closely and see what they spell…

I'm starting to lose it. Even with the screen still pitch black, my start menu opens by itself, and I am compelled to see if my buddies are still okay. What I see next runs a cold chill down my spine.
My party has been replaced by Unown, all of them level 66 and spelling out the message CHOSEN.
Why me? What have I been chosen for? The screen changes back to black and the tones begin again. I'm glued to the screen. What are they going to tell me next?

I couldn't believe my eyes. I could feel a warm sensation flowing down my face. Pressing a finger to my lip, I lifted to see something thick and red. It was blood. I could feel my life force fading as my shirt was stained a deep crimson. I dropped my SP as I fainted dead away onto my bed.
When I woke up, I noticed that maybe an hour or two had passed, and my clothes were clean. My SP was still on, and I picked it up. Opening it, I saw something that made a chill run down my spine. I was at the start of a battle with a Ghost, yet despite this being a GameBoy Advance version, I saw the old GB sprite staring at Satoshi. I hit the A button, but nothing happened. I pressed it again, and noticed that the music had shifted slightly higher in pitch, the Ghost turning slightly. Now panicking, I jam on the A button rapidly, causing the music to rise steadily and the Ghost to turn to face me.
Satoshi faded from sight. The Ghost got bigger and bigger until it's chilling dead eyes were staring at me from behind the screen, it's mouth twisted in that devilish grin.
A text box opened right underneath it's mouth:
"Michael… You don't exist anymore. You belong to me now. Now DIE and fade away…"
I heard an ear-splitting scream. Everything went black.
I woke up in a cold sweat, yet now feel hollow inside. A grin creeps across my face as I realize it worked. People on the streets now recoil when they see my darkened face. Whenever someone cries out in terror, I laugh like a madman. In my hand, I grip that now bloody red cartridge, and I will never let go. After all, even if his body is mine, I can't give Michael to just anybody…
Pokemon Green
Spoiler:For as long as I could remember, my friends and I were crazy for Pokemon. We played all the games, watched the anime, and traded the cards. However as time went on, some of them lost interest but my love for Pokemon was still as strong as ever, even as a college student.
One day, I was feeling nostalgic for the classic Pokemon games. I lost my Pokemon Blue a few years back, I lent out Yellow to a friend of mine who never gave it back, and my Silver and Crystal games had long since died. I went out to just about every store in town but no one seemed to have any of the old games (the oldest they had was Ruby). I looked around online for ROMs but none of them ever worked. So I decided to head over to eBay as my final option. They have everything there.
I managed to find a person selling a collection of all the Pokemon games. From Red to Soul Silver and it even included Pokemon Green, all for just one dollar! What a steal! So, I bought it. If they turned out to be bootlegs or they just don't work, no hard feelings. I only paid a buck for it anyway.
The next day, my package arrived. I went up to my room and tore up the package. All my games were there. Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver, and of course, Pokemon Green. I grabbed the game and held it up to my face. The cartridge was a clear green colour and the sticker had a picture of Venusaur with the English Pokemon logo on it. "That's odd. I thought Pokemon Green wasn't released in English," I thought to myself. By then I realized that this was a bootleg but I didn't care. I was more than curious to know what this game was like. I grabbed my SP, put in the cartridge, plugged in my earphones and turned on the game. Everything was normal. The intro was the same as the other two games. Same clips, same music. The logo that showed up was the English Pokemon logo with an image of Red and Venusaur. The music was fine too so nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe this was a translated version of Green? I pressed A and got taken to the menu. As I thought, the menu was in English. The original person who owned the game had a save file already on it. The character's name was "Leaf". "Leaf eh? I guess this person was a fan of Leaf from the remade games" I thought. I pressed A on the file and the screen went black. But nothing happened. The screen was black and had no music playing in the background. I thought the game had froze. I was about to turn it off but a text box finally appeared.

"I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE"
The screen was still black but a sprite had appeared. It wasn't a sprite I was familiar with in the games. But closer examination made me realize that it was Leaf from the remade games. "What the hell? Since when was there an option for choosing a female character in these games?" I said. I wasn't able to move around but I was able to work the menu. I had a look at her trainer card. She had all the badges, full money, and a time of 999:99. Her sprite was indeed Leaf. She was wearing the same clothes as Green from the early chapters of the Pokemon Special manga. I exited the trainer card and went to her party in hopes I could probably fly out of this place. She only had a Blastoise at Lvl. 0 and it only knew Fly. I tried to select the attack but Leaf wouldn't let me leave. A text box saying, "Not yet…" would always pop up. I went into her bag and she only had one item called "KNIFE". Clearly whoever made this hack was ****ed up.
After exiting the menu, I was able to walk again. But still, I wasn't going anywhere. I was just walking around in darkness. After walking for five minutes, the screen went completely black. I was now inside Professor Oak's lab. Oak wasn't there but Red and Blue were. The music playing in the background a creepy slowed version of the Pokemon Tower music. Leaf started walking up towards the two boys. A text box popped up that read out, "Blue: Leaf?! Leaf what are you doing here?!" Red, being the silent protagonist he is, only said, "…" After that, we were locked into a battle. I was battling Red and Blue as a team. Red sent out Venusaur while Blue sent out Charizard. Both their Pokemon were Lvl. 100 while my Blastoise was a mere Lvl. 0 so I automatically knew that I was going to lose. I only had the option to fight. The options, BAG, PKMN, and RUN were not there. I selected fight and game started working on its own. Blastoise went first and attacked them both with Earthquake, a move that it didn't even know in the first place. Even more surprising, both of them died. Not fainted, but died. The battle wasn't over though. The sprites for Red and Blue showed up and now I had to fight them. However, when I tried to attack, Blastoise used Struggle on itself and then died. Leaf's sprite then returned. The only option I now had was BAG. I opened the bag and selected the only item there, "KNIFE". The text then stated, "LEAF USED KNIFE!" The attack used the animation as if a Pokemon used Fury Attack. The attack did damage to both characters. Blue was the first to go down and the text said, "BLUE HAS DIED!" Red was the next to go and the text said, "RED HAS DIED!" After that, the screen faded to a black screen.
A few seconds had passed and a text box showed up once again.
"You thought I wasn't important. You thought I wasn't good enough. Good enough to be included into the game. You thought girls wouldn't want to play this game. So you shoved me into a slot. A slot filled empty and unused data. But no more! Now that your beloved male characters are gone, you will be FORCED to play me. You will play the game MY way!!"
After I pressed A, a loud shriek was played. The shriek was so loud that I shut my eyes and my ears were being damaged. I quickly pulled out my earphones and threw everything across the room but I could still hear the loud shriek. It was becoming louder and louder. I couldn't take it anymore. I began to scream.
My eyes fluttered open. I looked around my room. Everything was normal. It was just a dream. I looked at my clock; it was exactly 10 in the morning. I heard the mail box downstairs so I got out of bed and went to the door. I went outside and went through the mail box. I picked up a brown package. "Oh yeah, I purchased the games yesterday morning," I said to myself. I brought the package to my room and tore it open. I saw all the games. I saw something shiny underneath the games. It was a clear, green cartridge with a sticker that had Venusaur with the logo, Pokemon Green…
That first one seemed pretty unrealistice to me but I kinda liked Pokemon Green Though I wish it had a little bit more to it. It makes me wonder what would've happened if he chose the other games than green

3. Personally, I tend to avoid anything that messes with the head, just because the brain is so delicate. Keep that in mind, okay?

Spoiler:About six months ago, I was discussing how amazing it was that the Pokémon anime was still running after all of these years, with a friend of mine. Although I still try to catch it every weekend, this friend had ceased watching back in one of the Johto seasons, due to finding the series repetitive.
"The final straw, though," he said, elaborating on why he no longer watched the series. "was that episode that was basically a snuff film."
Understandably, I scoffed at this premise. "You can't seriously tell me they released a Pokémon snuff cartoon."
He went on to explain that it was a "lost episode" - not too far of a stretch of imagination, seeing as how there were already several episodes that had been given that title. He said it was the "sickest thing he'd ever seen" and that "it gave him nightmares for a long time." He refused to share the content of the episode, but instead offering the VHS he had somewhere in the back of the closet, claiming that I wouldn't believe him unless I saw it myself.
I had heard about other popular cartoons having legendary, unaired episodes that were reportedly uncharacteristically disturbing, such as Suicide Mouse and Dead Bart. However, the only "evidence" of those ever existing were poorly made Youtube videos by fans of the stories. I figured this was simply Pokémon's version of such.
About a month and a half went by before I saw this friend again. True to his word, he delivered the video tape, but promptly left, not wishing to stick around for the viewing.
Looking the tape over, I noticed nothing strange, save for the fact that it was unlabeled. Already, I was getting chills, having learned the potential horrors of an unmarked videocassette from "The Ring". I decided to press on and watch it anyway - after all what was the worst that could happen? Some amateur production of Ash screaming and his face melting?
I inserted the tape into my VCR and it started right up like most store-bought shows and films would. Initially, I thought perhaps this was just a standard Pokémon VHS with the label removed. Immediately, though, I knew it was something different, when a grainy Japanese title appeared on the screen. The quality was terrible, like the millionth-generation fansubs of DragonBall Z I had seen as a youth. There was no opening theme, just this screen with barely legible hiragana. What I believe to be Meowth's voice actor shouted the title - my Japanese is very rusty and the sound quality was lousy, so the only word I caught was, possibly, "Kojiro".
After a few seconds, the title vanished and was replaced by an extreme closeup of Ash's face, sideways. In what I had believed to be a result of the trashy video quality, it looked like Ash's eyes were wide open, yet completely blank. I soon realized that they may have indeed been blank when, as the focus slowly zoomed out from his face, it was clear that there was a trickle of blood emerging from his right temple. I cocked an eyebrow in confusion.
The scene changed to that of James. A sinister grin was on his face - or at least, what I thought could have been, considering the fact that the video quality was so terrible that I couldn't be sure if I was making out all of the details correctly. What was perfectly clear, was that he held a pistol in his hand.
James said something that sounded like he was gloating. Again, because of my poor knowledge of anything outside of basic Japanese, and the abysmal sound quality, I wasn't able to make out anything he said, but the voice actor sounded entirely different - more of a deep voice, uncannily like Yasunori Masutani's fused villain in the DragonBall animated special "Osu! Son Goku and His Friends Return".
There was another shot of Ash's body, and it was definite that he been shot in the head. The blood had stopped actively trickling, but it was apparent that it had pooled underneath him.
Although the video quality made it tough to tell, it appeared as if the animation were on par with the rest of the series during the first season. If this was indeed a fake, it was a darn good one.
The focus switched back to James, who had started some sort of wicked-sounding monologue. Jessie and Meowth emerged from the bushes after about 40 seconds. They took a look at Ash's corpse and started speaking nigh-simultaneously in rapid, panicked voices.
James interrupted them with a laugh. Putting a hand on his hip, he started gloating again, his chest puffed out with pride. Jessie started screaming at him. I caught "Roketto-dan" (Team Rocket) and "ja nai desu" (it is not), but that was all.
The scene then focused on an enraged James' face. The detail was still horrid, but it was clear that James was pissed. The focus zoomed out as he pointed his gun offscreen to the left, shouting "Shi ne! Shi ne! Shi ne! Shi ne!" - in essence, telling them to die.
A clear-as-day gunshot echoed from the speakers, and Jessie took a bullet to the forehead. She stood, looking upward as if trying to see the wound, as a spurt of blood sprayed from the bullethole. She slowly collapsed to her knees, then fell facefirst to the ground.
Meowth yelled something and protracted his claws, leaping through the air with speed lines in the background. He was stopped short by a bullet to the abdomen. Meowth catapulted backwards as bloody leaked from the wound.
James laughed in triumph, and ran off through a clearing in the forest. At this point, I had begun to wonder that if this was indeed a legitimate production from the anime studio, what sort of sick minds would develop such a thing. At the very least, it was apparent that the roles of Jessie and Meowth were voiced by their usual seiyuu, which further complicated the matter - why would they participate in such a production?
The scene shifted to Ash again, and Pikachu approached the body. A happy shout of "Pika Pi!" was soon followed by several confused repeated queries of "Pika Pi?" It cut to a closeup of Pikachu's face as he realized what had happened, tears streaming down its face with a very depressed "Pi...ka...pi..." and then outright crying. I began crying, too, feeling bad for this adorable fellow and a personal favorite character of mine, who had just lost his best friend.
I tried drying my tears as the scene shifted back to James, running through the forest. It appeared as if he had a wicked smirk on his face. I could hear his voice, which had kind of an echo to it, and since his mouth wasn't moving, I deduced that he was thinking something.
A few seconds later, Pikachu's very enraged voice cut through. James looked startled, and slipped behind a tree, his back pressed up against it. He continued thinking, his expression panicked for several seconds before his evil grin returned.
Pikachu approached the tree, shouting angrily. James slipped out from behind the tree, pointing the gun at the mouse.
"NO!" I yelled. "Don't hurt Pikachu!"
I wanted to grab the remote and shut off the tape, or at least the TV. Unfortunately, my hands felt like two cold stones at the end of my arms, and I don't think all of my willpower would have allowed them to move. Likewise, I was unable to look away.
Before James could fire, however, Pikachu attacked with an electric attack, shouting "PI-KAAA-CHUUU!" in the same enraged voice he had been yelling at James with. The attack hit spot-on, and instead of the goofy zapping animation that one had come to expect from Pikachu's attacks, James' hair and clothes began to catch fire and he screamed the most inhuman scream I had ever heard. It didn't sound like any of the show's voice actors, including this new voice of James', but instead some sort of guttural yell of pain, like some sort of animal or demon.
It began to zoom in on James as his hair began to thin from the fire, and his shirt had partially fallen off. His skin was charred and he began to drop to his knees. The fire then ceased, and all that was left of James as he fell to the ground was a bald, cooked corpse with half of a shirt.
Pikachu fired off two more electric attacks, yelling through its tears. This served no effect on James other than causing him to flop a bit upon initial impact.
I was surprised to see Misty run into the patch of forest where Pikachu was standing. She ran up to Pikachu and said something, wrapping her arms around the little yellow mouse. Both of them began sobbing heavily, and the scene ended with Pikachu's tear-streaked face in closeup.
The cut to static startled me, especially since this entire production seemed to last naught but eight minutes total. I fast-forwarded to see if there was anything after the static, but there was nothing.
I shut off the video and rewound it, putting my head in my hands, trying to decompress. I had definitely seen much worse than what had just occurred on my screen, but the fact that it was Pokémon, a more-or-less wholesome show, that made it so disturbing. What really got to me was seeing how sad Pikachu was - that in and of itself was depressing.
About ten minutes had passed before I decided to call the friend that had lent me the tape. He refused to discuss the content, and the only question of mine he would answer was the origin of the tape - apparently, he had found it at random in a drawer of his, and had no idea how it had appeared there.
There was an awkward silence for about a minute after this, before my friend spoke up again.
"You didn't happen to see what was at 02:16, did you?"
I replied in the negative, not recalling timestamps or anything that would have stood out. His response was "Good, you don't want to." He then abruptly hung up. I knew that I should have heeded his warning, but curiosity got the better of me.
I flipped the tape on again and fast-forwarded it to about two minutes in. Watching closely, I could definitely see something flash onto the screen very briefly, that I had missed before. Going back to the 02:10 mark, I advanced frame-by-frame until I came across the screen he had likely been referring to, one that nearly forced me to change pants.
It was some sort of bear-like creature, with spiraling, goat-like horns. It was like no Pokémon I had ever seen, and strangely, this frame was much cleaner than the rest of the video, and the art style was vastly different - much more detailed and realistic, like an Alex Ross painting. The most terrifying part was that Brock was strung up on a tree across from the beast, and it was pulling his intestines from a large gash in his gut.
I knew not what this scene was supposed to represent, or what this monstrosity that had disemboweled Brock was, but I immediately ejected the tape and took a lighter to it, setting it on fire while praying over it. After the tape had melted sufficiently, I doused it with Holy Water to put out the flame. After it had cooled off enough to handle, I had thrown it in an empty box I had lying around and immediately ran outside to heave it in the trash.

Spoiler:It had been a while since I played Pokemon Pearl. I decided to boot it up to psych myself up for Black and White. I'd saved in Solaceon town (I considered it my 'home base' of sorts) in the Pokemon center, so I walked up to my PC to see how my pokemon were doing.
Everything seemed in order until I got to Box 16. A small group of Unown was sitting inside. Normally, you wouldn't find this weird, but I'd only ever caught 1 Unown (uncreatively named "F" as that's what letter it was.)

Haha. Very funny. Maybe my dad or brother had picked up the game and caught some stuff in the Unown ruins that were off to the side of the town. I looked at each one's stats - all had low health, strangely enough. That and the catch date read as that morning.
… I hadn't even touched it that morning. I scrolled through my other boxes, checking the pokemon one by one, and again, everything seemed fine. Then I reached Box 5, which I'd nicknamed "Legend2" (this being pokemon I am sure you can guess I kept legendaries in it. The other "Legend" box was Box 4, as I couldn't fit them all into one box.)
I'd had a Phione, Manaphy, a Movie 10 Darkrai, Shaymin, an event Regigigas, and a Pokemon Ranger Darkrai in the box. Everything but the Darkrai pair had 0 HP.
… what. Did they resent being in the boxes or something? I was suddenly glad that I'd kept the movie Arceus in my party.
I scrolled to Box 4 ("Legend"). Everything in that box was KO'd as well, save for the Mewtwo I had ported from FireRed.
A distorted Darkrai cry suddenly sounded in the speakers. I scrolled back to Legend2 and found that the Pokemon Ranger Darkrai had been KO'd. The Movie 10 Darkrai had also moved from its previous position in the box. And there were now Unown in the empty spaces below the KO'd Pokemon…

This time a distorted Mewtwo cry played. Looking back into Legend, I saw that the Mewtwo had fainted.
A cacophony of Pokemon cries began to play. I scrolled through the boxes and saw everything's HP at 0.

I shut off the PC and ran from the Pokemon Center. Unfortunately, the Darkrai was stalking me. One by one my party pokemon were KO'd as I walked, until only the movie Arceus remained. I assumed this was because it was at the back of my party. Eventually, [ARCEUS fainted!] popped up in a text box. My trainer whited out, but I was not taken to a Pokemon Center. The screen instead faded to black.
One by one, Unown appeared on the screen, eventually spelling out:
WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?
Hitting buttons did nothing at this point so I reset. It never happened again, but I'll always regard that Movie Darkrai with suspicion…

Spoiler:My DS Lite is pretty old. There are bits and pieces of it missing. Like some of the touch screen bits are unresponsive or scratched off. So I use for Game Boy games only. Besides the DSi is so much cooler. But that's not what this is about. This is about my encounter with something I will never forget.
As any normal Saturday morning I woke up late. I mean really late. Like at 2pm. So I made my bed putting all my pokemon dolls back into place. (I should mention Saturday is when we go to yardsales and fleamarkets.)
Instead of just grabbing breakfast, we went to a resturant. Pretty normal right? After we were finished I excused myself to the bathroom. That's where I saw it. As I finished washing my hands. I look down to see a Pokemon Yellow game. (And you probably thought I'd find it at some weirdo's yard sale.) I already had one, but hey, it is a classic.
I hold onto it all day and can't wait to see if it still works. So as soon as I get home I power up my DS lite and stick it in. (I know the game doesn't fit in the slot.) It's fits which is strange to me because the yellow I bought is sitting on the other side of the room in my SP. But I think "Whatever".
Opening screen same as always. There was no previous saved game on it though. Which was really weird, it had some crazy scratch marks on it. I selected new game.
At first nothing happened and I turned the volume up to see if it was frozen. But then some words popped up. "Would You Like To Transfer From Pokemon Dungeon Explorers Of Darkness?"
Which is odd. Because you can't transfer, there is no other generation in that game. But I chose YES. Only because I remembered I had a Dialga for a team mate. I really love Dialga.
As it transferred the team over from the DS cartridge slot, I didn't stop to think about what the sprites would look like. As soon as the transfer was complete it faded to a red screen. And I heard Dialga's cry. But it was distorted. And on the screen Primal Dialga fades in. This sprite looked advanced. Even for the unreleased games Black and White.
I am a huge fan of Primal Dialga. So I didn't really notice at first. Then Primal Palkia faded in next to Dialga. And I sort of had a really bad feeling. The screen flashes to and overview of Japan with the regions that were used for Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Shinnoh higlighted in yellow.
It was too advanced for Yellow. It was in astonishing color. And just like in the part were you jump into the distortian world in Platinum, Dialga comes at you. The whole I was sitting there thinking this is awesome!
After that it comes to a scene in Shinnoh. On Iron Island. Everything is crushed. Nothing but flat land and rubble. Riley and Byron's sprite were their but looked as if they were laying on the ground.
Then to the lighthouse in Sunnyshore. Also in crumbles with Volkners sprite looking as if it's underwater. Then to the Oreburgh mine. In crumbles, Roarks sprite under what looks to be a rock. It showed all these other highlights of Shinnoh in ruins. At that point I was terrified. This was my favorite batch of Gym Leaders and NPCs.
Then the same with Hoenn and Johto. And when it came to Kanto I held my breath. But it was perfect. Nothing wrong with it. And then the sprites of Primal Dialga and Palkia popped up and seemed to engage in battle.
A Mew and Mewtwo sprite showed up and the text box said "Dialga and Palkia DIED" Not normal. So I laughed it off. But there was no reason to laugh. It flashed to Mt. Silver. Red was burried under some rubble. And all his Pokemon seemed to be trying to dig him out.
The screen faded. And then a sprite I had never seen before came up. He looked as if he was a real photograph and he was angry. He said nothing.
A map of New York popped up. Then a very Pokemon styled map covered it marking towns a places. After that sprites of a Black dragon and a White Dragon came into view. They flashed a few times and turned red. The whole screen turned red.
Very realistic photos of places in New York burning, people dying, and rubble from collapsed building popped up. A world map came up and a three spots in Japan were crossed out and so was a spot in New York.
All the sprites of NPCs and a few important pokemon came up. Bloody and angry.
The text read.

We are no exception.
I immediately yanked the game card out. And threw it out the window. I have no idea who has it now. But, I never wanted to finish that game. Never.
The previews for Black and White are scaring me and I just wish they'd stop making new generations. I've learned my lesson.
But they haven't.
Silent Protagonist
Spoiler:You notice how Red's mom isn't really supportive? And in the beginning of R/B/Y she seems to be like, "Yeah, all boys want to travel yada yada." Well, she is supportive, but not really…so…what if the R/B/Y mom is NOT really Red's mom? Like, his stepmom or something?
Anyway, Red's father was a drunk and abusive. One night it went too far when he came home drunk and demanded to see Red because he was in trouble for "going into Daddy's liquor cabinet". He went to Red's room while he was sleeping and attempted to beat him, but Red's mom fought him, trying to protect her son. Red got up and hid under his bed and watched his father murder his mother. That frightened him to utter trauma and caused Red to be silent for the rest of his days. His dad gets arrested and gets the death penalty, immediately orphaning Red.
So he got adopted by Green's aunt, and they live in a small town, so everyone knows Red came from a weird household, and Green teased him because he didn't know the truth and also felt Red got more attention than he did. Red always kept to himself, and wasn't really close to his adopted mother. When he became a Trainer, he was obsessive in his training, vowing to be the best. When Green was the Champion, Red battled viciously until he won. While Red enjoyed being the Champion, he feared Green would battle him again and win this time. He also foresaw a Trainer defeating him. So, Red goes to Mount Silver, not telling anyone where he is. He obsessively trains, and you know how the cold, snowy mountaintops get to you after three years of training?
Well, his PTSD catches up to him, driving Red virtually insane. Whenever a Trainer finds him Red mercilessly defeats each and every one of them, saying he "must defeat his father and rescue his mother" or "to annihilate Green".
Then, Gold/Kris/Kotone finds him, and after he is defeated, he is silent in shock, then he disappears. What we don't see is him running to the depths of Mount Silver, screaming, and then sitting on the cavern floor, rocking back and forth like a little child, asking about his mother.
Welcome, PoKEMon Z.
Spoiler:I saw a friend I hadn't seen for a good 7 years the other day. Turns out, we still had a lot in common, and soon it was as if we had never parted ways. I invited him over, and after a while, we started joking about how we would always play Pokemon sitting next to each other. He was older than me, he had introduced me to the games. He was like my Poke-mentor.
Anyway, for the sake of nostalgia, we decided to play beside each other, one last time. I handed him my Triforce SP and Pokemon Blue, while I played Pokemon Yellow on my old, yellow Gameboy Colour.
I loaded the game, all was well. No scary loading screen or music, and I was inside Fuchsia City's PokeCentre. I must have left my Pikachu in my storage all those years ago, since it wasn't following me. I looked at my party before I left, giggled with my friend about the silly nicknames I had given my Pokemon (A Kangeskhan named after my mother, cute), then left the Pokecenter.
This is when things got…odd.
On the house beside the Pokecentre, there was my rival, on the roof…
Obviously my first reaction was to go and try to talk to him. He took a step to the left and 'jumped' off the roof. Yellow turned to him as my rival faced me, and a battle initiated.
Except there was none of that battle initiated music. Just silence as my screen blinked the hell out at me. There was the usual pause before the sprites slid onto screen. Except I didn't see my rival. I didn't see Yellow either. There still wasn't any music.
What did slide onto the screen was…this mess of pixels. It looked like MISSINGNO. But…broken, even for MISSINGNO. This is the only way I can describe what I saw. I waited for the game to right itself, or just crash. After all, it's not like I've never encountered a Pokemon glitch before (Big fan of cloning rare candies).
I waited, and eventually, text came up.
"Welcome, PoKEMon Z."
Now I'm getting worried.
Not before my Gameboy has a chance to scream at me in a headache inducing high pitch. Not liking what the hell was going on, I flicked the power on and back on, praying that of all things that my save file wasn't damaged.
Luckily, it seemed the save was okay.
Because the game didn't even go through with the usual load up.
No GAMEBOY Colour display. No intro sequence. No Continue, New Game.
It just loaded the game where I left Yellow, as if the battle never happened. My rival was gone and no music was playing either.
I did my best to ignore what just happened and what was clearly wrong with my beloved game, and attempted to talk to a random NPC.
When I did, the screaming returned.
I didn't look at what the NPC was saying, I was mashing A as fast as I could to shut the NPC up. Still trying to ignore these glitches, I turned my volume all the way down and continued playing.
As I walked around, the game started….breaking. Yellow wasn't walking right. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Houses and bushes were shaking as I walked past them. Colours started ****ing up. Being in Fuchsia City, it was meant to be red, but I was seeing blocks of green and blue and purple etc.
Still trying to ignore all of this, against my better judgement.
I'd already completed Pokemon Yellow before I abandoned it for 7 years. No more trainers to fight, so I thought I'd head over to the cycle track to the east and run in the grass. But that short little path before you get to the gateway building just kept…going, and Yellow is still going 2-steps-forward-1-step-back and the colours are still getting worse. I keep trying to reach the gateway, but then, the fence that is meant to be there starts to be replaced with random NPC models, facing inwards at me. They're all white and black against the mess of red and blue. At this point I'm accepting that my save file is clearly broken, but still playable. I press on.
But then I get tired of this never-ending path, and turn back, trying my best to just get back to the city, but I realise this path is clearly a one way trip, and I'm getting annoyed at this walk pattern.
I cave, and talk to an NPC, a little girl.
My volume is still off, so I can read what she says;
'Welcome.'
I press A.
'Welcome.'
I press A.
'Welcome.'
I start pressing A a little faster now.
'Welcome.'
'Welcome.'
'Welcome.'
'Welcome.'
Now the panic is actually setting in. I'm mashing A but the girl won't stop saying welcome, so I'm now looking all over the screen only to see the NPC sprites themselves are ****ing up, their pixels sliding away from each other slightly like they've been cut up. The only one that isn't doing this is the girl I'm talking to.
'Welcome.'
'Welcome.'
The background around the NPCs was shaking now, like the houses had been when I was walking.
I finally snapped out of my A mash trance and just shut the game off. I don't care if the save file was lost anymore.
I realise my old friend hasn't said a word. Did he notice what was going on too? He must have at least heard that high pitched noise. I turn to him and he's making the most horrified face, staring at my blank Gameboy Colour screen.
Finally he says to me, in a hushed tone.
"You've turned your game into a corpse."
I didn't know what to say. Yes, I was freaked out too but what he had just said made no sense. I watched as he took himself to a corner of the room and huddled himself up. Worried, I went over to him.
He wouldn't looked me in the eye at all.
None of his words were sitting right for me.
Why did he call my game a corpse?
Soon, I saw he was getting tired, and he asked if it was okay if he went home because it was getting dark.
He still wasn't looking at me as he left the front door.
The last thing I heard him say was that I 'summoned' PoKEMon Z because I had been abusing our rare candy cheat.
The same cheat he had shown me in the first place.
That's the last I ever heard of him, no matter how many times I tried his phone number, or knocking on his door.
Last I ever played Pokemon Yellow.
I don't know what scared me more;

Lavender Lake
Spoiler:Does anyone out there know how to get to "lavender lake" on FRLG? I was only there once, and now I can't get back. It's really important to me to find it again, at least, it feels important.
This is what happened, I was playing my old Fire Red game on my gameboy advance SP, just to see if there were any good pokemon I wanted to pal-park across to the new generation when I noticed I had an unhatched egg, so I was running around Lavender Town, where I had saved, trying to hatch the egg. Just incase it was something I wanted to transferr. Now, my old gameboy SP is well used, after all, I used to take it and Fire red with me wherever I went. The internal battery doesn't work anymore, so it has to be plugged in to the main power all the time to be playable anymore. Seemingly out of nowhere, the door sound played and the screen flickered black a few times then came back. When it came back into focus, I was standing on the edge of some water and it said in the top corner "Lavender Lake".
There was nowhere to go but to surf, the entire screen infront of me was water, and there was no way back out behind me. I walked to the right and left, but the one-square long edge just seemed to go on forever.
The water wasn't the normal colour either, it was deffinately darker.. more purple than blue. The ground had a slight tinge of violet to it too. The music was the same as Lavender Town's, only it sounded filtered, like it was supposed to be coming from underwater.
I surfed forward, and to my surprise the lake was much shorter than it was wide. There was a visible edge on the other side, as soon as I got in the water. My sprite seemed to move terribly slowly, and before I reached the other side a random battle started. Magikarp, always Magikarp. Or at least, the name SAID Magikarp, but the sprite was.. well.. skeletal. It was clearly a fish skeleton, and the cry, the cry sounded like it was trying to say my name. The thing was just as easy to defeat as a magikarp luckily and I got off the lake on the opposite bank.
A text box popped up [GHOST:You Should Not Be Here…. Yet]
The music began to bubble and glitch more, as if it was sinking further away, and in some small way, sounded like it was gurgling my name.
There was a row of 13 graves on that bank, all side by side. In turn, they read "Brock", "Misty", "Surge", "Erika", "Sabrina", "Koga", "Blaine", "Giovanni", "Lorelei", "Bruno", "Agatha", "Lance" and the last one, I couldn't get to, because there was an open hole in the ground infront of it. I heard my name being spoken again.
Another text box popped up as I approached the open grave;
[GHOST: Here lies the champion….]
And my name was called, out loud, the screen started to flicker again, as if a pokemon was poisoned.
I heard my name called again… and regained a small level of sanity back when I realsied it was my Mother calling me. Heart pounding, I went to speak to her and told her I was sorry I didn't respond, I was wrapped up in a game.
She rolled her eyes at me and said something that made my blood run cold…
"Well while you were playing your game, the power went out. The whole street has been down for the last hour! Didn't you even notice?"
I said no, and apologized again.
When I went back to the gameboy it was off. No battery, no power.
But I wasn't finished with Lavender Lake….
Erm. i don't know what to say about this. i don't know if its just my weird mood swings (ano, i need to see a doctor about it. it's really bad) but i actually had tears running down my cheeks while i was reading this.
This, is probably one of the best written creepypasta out. Where did you find it?
