For those of you who are in the dark, round 2 of the suspect test on Smogon has come to an end and the nominations are going up as i speak.

    Rankurusu
    579.gif

To quote many people "Calm Mind decimates stall whilst Trick Room decimates offense" with Magic Guard and Recover people say this thing is just TOO hard to take out.

    Doryuuzu
    530.gif

Here we go again, im not sure why this is up for debate again because it has quite alot of checks and counters and doesn't really take much to play around it. But ok, people are saying its too fast (breaks the speed tiers) and is too easy to set up with Ballon and Ohko's most of the metagame after 1 turn of set up and has a "un blockable" Rapid Spin.

    Landlos
    645.gif

"This 2hko's EVERYTHING in the game at worst with basically no set up" to sum it up, Sand Power makes it broken. The Swords Dancer has 0 counters apart from maybe Bronzong who loses to Bulk up without HP Ice, that and SD LO SE in Sand 2hko's Bronzong. For revenge killing it can use Rock Polish to outspeed even Swift Swimmers and still gets ridiculous power with HP Ice to take out Gliscor.

    Manaphy
    490.gif

Infinite rain, Hydration, +3 Tail Glow. Need i say any more ? Oh yeah, not to mention fantastic bulk and typing. Can also CM to beat things with T-Bolt then spam Rest to PP stall and stat up on you.

    Latios
    381.gif

No counters again. Trick and Psycho Shock take out special walls, fast, bulky, Surf 2hko's every Steel and Draco Meteor basically can do this too. HP Fire is standard now too to decimate Nattorie.

Drizzle and Swift Swim (Aldarons proposal is to ban these two on the same team)
    Kyogre-legendary-pokemon-7313222-320-240.jpg

I shouldn't need to explain this based on the total rain fest OU has become with Politoed.

Of the nominations so far these guys have been put down by far the most. But of course voting is where it matters. For reference http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85074

What are your thoughts? Struggled with any and like to see them go ? Which have you found to be overhyped ? Discuss. ^.^

  • I quite like the prospect of banning Drizzle and Swift Swim on the same team, as there aren't counters for things like Shell smash Gorebyss, etc.
I'm confident Landlos, Manaphy, and Latios will all end up uber, due to BST and lack of counters.
While Rank and Dory are extremely powerful and useful, I don't see them ending up uber. I'll admit I've come back from 5-0 due to Rank
twice, but it isn't extremely hard if you stop it from spamming CM and get a status condition on it.

  • i havent played much this round because ive been busier than a 1 armed slave but i dont see latios being uber this round. manaphy for sure, even without rain +3 tail glow rapes the universe. i like aldarons proposal even though it has potential to open a pandora's box of "specific" bans which i am completely against.

i dont see rank being uber, its hard to take out but tbh just dont let it set up (i know thats bad advice but really). landlos and/or dory i dont see going uber because its not that impossible to kill them, they just happen to be really really powerful sweepers.

edit: wait what the **** are you honestly telling me deo-s/d arent uber noms this round? ._.

This is why I should have waited until I actually knew what I was talking about
Forgot about that, gratz to Ranculus if he makes it uber, though. Now that I think about it, my Ranculus usually died from crits, or some kind of hax.
Maybe Serene Grace could take it down?

D-S and D really arent that good now lol.

And the thing about Rank is that it can always set up, TR against offense and then CM against stall. Its very easy for it to do both against each play style and mess them up badly

  • If Drizzle (or just the Drizzle + Swift Swim combo) ends up banned, then that just paves the way for more Sandstorm/ Drought teams to rule OU, same difference. -__-

As for the bans, I really don't think Reuniclus is ban worthy, given all the Ghost and Dark types (Tyranitar, Chandelure, Scrafty, etc) running around.

If it uses Trick Room on the switch all those are screwed by LO Shadow Balls or Focus Blast. Which is part of the problem, most its checks and counters are rather unreliable agaisnt it sadly. ):

Even CB Tar doesn't guarantee a OHKO on this thing which is a testament to its ridiculous bulk and backed up by CM, basically nothing is gonna OHKO this thing.

Along with Recover, CM, and Psycho Shock/Psychic, Ranculus almost always has
Shadow Ball or HP fighting in his last slot.

  • The only thing I think that deserves a ban is Manaphy... Just way to overpowered. :c Everything else is much easily checked just fine, IMO.

And with the Rain teams, can't say I like them that much. D: But banning Drizzle alongside Swift swim is a tad ridiculous, don't ya think? What Swift Swimmer isn't walled by Natty? Though, that really is the only reliable counter. Having a Natty is kinda a must with the all the Rain Dance Teams now a days. I dunno, maybe it is a good idea...

  • I don't think that Sand Rush Excadrill deserves a ban because it's very reliant on Sandstorm to sweep effectively (and even then, Sandstorm could be cancelled by Drizzletoed or Droughtales). The Pokemon I'm nominating is Reuniclus because it's very hard to take out.

Gotta agree with you there~ Excadrill is easily taken care of.

But I dunno, I don't have problems with some Pokemon Listed here. Like Reuniculus, he may have Magic Guard and be rather bulky, but Magic Guard only really helps with Weather and Entry Hazards. I'm seeing less and less stallers out there, which is why B/W is much more faster paced~ Anyways, he is highly weak to Taunt, and without Psycho Shock, absolutely devastated by Ulgamoth. Well, any powered up sweeper can take care of him. It's not like his typing gives him any extra protection. (Aside from Fighting resistance~)

Lol, Smogon never ceases to amaze me.

@ Rankurusu: This thing is hardly a problem. If you're a complete moron and let it setup, of course it's going to rape you. Other than that, no.

@ Doryuuzu: Again with this? Ugh. Checked way too easily. :/

@ Landlos: YES BAN IT! The SubDancer set is a pain in the arse. But other than that I don't think it's ban worthy.

@ Manaphy: "Oh hey fellow Smogoniters, lets test the obviously broken pokemon here so it will take just that much longer to ban, hur durrr." Seriously, Manaphy falls into the same boat as Darkrai and Shaymin-S, they don't need testing.

@ Latios: I don't really think this should go. He has hardly been proven broken. :/

@ Drizzle + Swift Swim: Oh yea, kill what rain has left going for them after you ban Manaphy. Seems like a stupid idea, to be honest.

We need a new website to set our standards, in my opinion. :(

If Drizzle (or just the Drizzle + Swift Swim combo) ends up banned, then that just paves the way for more Sandstorm/ Drought teams to rule OU, same difference. -__-

    Lol, hardly.

Sandstorm's main assets are Doryuuzu and Landlos. Doryuuzu is easily checked, and while Landlos can be problematic, it's unlikely you're going to sweep with him.

And saying Drought teams are going to rule the OU environment is like saying the world is going to end on December 21, 2012 (it's not, lololol).

I think all of these barring manaphy can be stopped consistently, and will just lead to increased usage of certain pokes like spD Scizor, toxic heal Gliscor, Sableye, which is cool... I don't wanna be playing the same metagame.
SD chomp is worse than Landlos to me, with sand veil there's no reliable check.
Sand beats rain mostly so drizzle isn't broken imo.

And status all of which are absolutely massive in dealing with it.

Can we leave things like this our of posts ? :/

Anyway Rankurusu has lack of or no good checks and neither do Latios and Landlos. You cant stop Rankrusu setting up, especially with that bulk and Trick Room only takes one turn to totally cripple your offensive team and hardly anything stops it. Calm Mind destroys bulkier teams and stall too. Really nothing is a good check apart from like Shubarugo ? (lol)

In the same vein nothing beats Landlos apart from possibly HP Ice Zong (Gyro Ball zong is set up fodder for Bulk Up and actually gets 2hko'd by SD LO Stone Edge in sand which is hilarious imo and if something is 2HKO'd by a resisted non stab move doesn't that scream "something is wrong" lol?) and Ice Beam Claydol (lol because thats totally viable, that and loses to U-Turn). Every one of Latios checks is either KO'd by Surf, pwned by resisted Draco (lol Scizor) and just utterly screwed by Trick/Psycho Shock. The latter 2 have troll speed too. Not to mention their typing and bulk which lets them keep coming in. Really the only thing id risk switching into Latios is like Bliss, Natt/Shubarugo who lose to Trick and HP Fire (which is now standard on any set >_>) respectively and Bulky CB Tar.

TL;DR their supposed checks and counters and ways to deal with them just arent reliable enough.

This is really exactly what I was thinking. TBH I wish that Rank doesn't get banned because it's amazing and I wish I could run a TR and a Calm Mind one on the same team almost :x but anyway none of those threats are really checked except by like um Shuba, like you pointed out. I also use Shuba as my Latios-killer as well as Rank because if I can get it to DM on Shuba, it usually runs away and is OHKO'd by Pursuit, although a lot of people are ballsy enough to stay in and HP Fire.

But seriously, if Shuba goes down I'm almost always vulnerable to Latios and Rank. I haven't had as much of a problem with Landlos because I don't let it get SD up but in all honestly I don't care if that gets banned or not. The only Pokémon I'm really interested in seeing banned is Manaphy at this point.

idk, but Venusaur is pretty good in sun. :(

    Ban Manaphy. I swear I hate that thing. Tail Glow+ Politoed+ Hydration=gg.

Oh my god Landlos f you. Earthquake 2hko's my Slowbro. ffs.

    Latios. uber.

The rest should not be banned. Weather is dealt with by other weather or TR,
    Dory is lol easy checked.

  • Rank beats everything with either trick room or calm mind, plus it's ability to run life orb without any recoil and access to recovery makes it amazingly versatile. As much as I like using it, I think the metagame would be better without it.

Dory could go either way for me. I think there are good arguments on both sides, but the main point here is he actually has checks, so I think he'll stay. However, he'll probably be consistently in the top ten since he still is a very good mon.

Landlos 2HKOs the world in the sand with little to no set up. Sub SD set is godly. I think he'll be banned.

Manaphy, +3 tail glow in the rain, plus hydration, need I say more? lol.

Latios, with surf, hp fire and draco it 2HKOs everything, really no solid checks here besides playing around it and hoping you out-predict, which is pretty difficult since it has flawless coverage. I think it goes too.

And I support the Drizzle/Swift-Swim proposal. Good rain teams in this metagame are nearly impossible to counter unless you have at least 1-2 solid checks, which is very over-centralizing in my opinion. Add to the fact the you have permanent rain and simply have to switch Politoed in to set up, without wasting a turn either, and yeah I'm thinking it becomes way to easy for rain to rule over OU.

  • Tabunne should be banned due to lack of visual appeal. Just saying.

    On a more serious note...

-Reuniclus I agree is ridiculously overpowered, Magic Guard + Recover + Calm mind allows it to utilize a ton of options so it should go. I mean the thing takes no residual damage whatsoever as all and your best chances of stopping it come from a CB Scizor U-Turn (nahhh) or a CB Tar Crunch. Although Punishment could stop a Calm Minding Reuniclus but yea its not that viable lol.

Latios I can see why it should be banned for sure, although Specially Defensive Nattorei in rain is an ok check (hence why I support Aldaron, but that makes Latios centralizing so yea it should go imo).

Manaphy aaaa get rid of it please lol.

Landlos I can see reasoning for it especially the SubSD set. gosh that thing is annoying to face, even with my own RP Landlos with HP Ice if it manages to get a sub (2HKO with +0 Stone Edge isn't fun)

Also Dory is easy to beat, suffers from moveslot syndrome, etc.

I've played with Rankarusu. I say he fits perfectly. While calm minding makes him difficult to stop and the fact that he is pretty much immune to indirect damage with Magic Guard, he still has counters. Those who aren't using trick room will have to deal with the fact that he is slow, and U-turners like Scizor and Genesect can 1-2 hit KO him on average.

Dory is a personal favorite of mine. I'm addicted to sandstorm just because of him. However, without any boosts, Dory can be walled pretty easily. Skarmory is one of his worst enemies, as most standard sets do not pack a way to truly counter it other than Rock Slide, which has a low base power and crummy accuracy. Even if it hits, it will almost never 1hitKO Skarm without getting blown away with Whirlwind. Another thing about Dory is that it can't deal will any weather change but sandstorm, and it HATES priority attackers, mainly from Roobushin, Lucario, and really any fighting type (though aqua jet comes to mind). In short, Dory is tough, but certainly not broken. Breloom is harder to deal with than Dory.

Landlos is very much a glass cannon. While sand power gives it a tremendous edge, it's still not that hard to get rid of it. Flying types and good physical walls can kind of mess up it's streak, with Gliscor coming to mind, depending on whether your set is physical or special. I can't imagine it being broken.

Manaphy... Oh god you guys HAVEN'T banned it!? 1 Tail glow is all it needs to start a successful sweep, and with Rain storm in effect (which has grown HIGHLY common in this metagame thanks to DrizzleToad) it becomes very difficult to stop, if not impossible depending on your team. With it's perfectly balanced stats, it definitely has enough bulk to ruin your chances of countering it, not to mention just enough speed. A lot of people have already banned Manaphy from their servers, and I recommended you guys do the same.

Latios... Ugh. I'm kind of mixed on this. Most of the teams I've set up have had no real troubles against it, but It's still pretty potent, even without soul dew. I wouldn't mind if it got booted to uber.
