Death is upon you... Who do you call?!

You are on a flight from Honolulu to Chicago non-stop. There is a fire in the back of the plane. You have enough time to make ONE phone call. Who do you call? What do you tell them?

Yeah my mom would be first. If I still had time after that I would call my boyfriend. Fairly easy question, as between the two of them they could get messages to whoever I'd want to say something to.

I remember hearing a lot of 'final phone calls' in the television coverage of September 11, eleven years ago. The one that has always stuck out in my mind was this woman who called her husband and got the answering machine, and it was a really quick message but it ended in "I'll miss you and I love you always." Then the line went dead. That has stuck with me ever since I heard it...

...so I wouldn't say anything like that. I guess anything you could say would be haunting but I would try not to say anything that would just echo in someone's mind forever. I wouldn't want to sort of torment them that way.

I think maybe I wouldn't make a call at all. When I think about it that way, it seems selfish. Selfish to share your final moments with a loved one and let them know how terrified you are and hand out frantic "I love you"s. I don't think I can bear the thought of getting one of those phone calls, so I wouldn't want to give one either.

Ideally, I'd give an answer but even hypothetically, I have absolutely no idea who I would call. It'd be one of those spur of the moment things you don't really give much thought to when you're doing it, even though it's such a huge decision. After all, it'd be the last person you'd ever speak to and the last person who would ever speak to you. Better mean something.

When I read the title I honestly thought of saying "Ghost Busters!". Anyway I'd probably call my parents and tell them that I love them and to change my facebook status to "chillin' with Jesus" just to lighten up the mood.
