Today the discussion of who to burn had been a bit more concise. Initially there was some hesitation, some individuals that didn't agree with the crowd, but eventually it came to an almost unanimous vote against Sphealo.
"You may have been healed," Zami began, taking long, deliberate strides towards Sphealo, "but the wound is still apparent. The way you hold yourself . . . the way you cringe when you stand the wrong way. It's obvious that you were the other person to have been killed last night, but why would you want to hide that fact? What reason could you have to have kept it a secret?"
Zami halted in front of Sphealo, glancing sidelong at her as she turned to address the crowd. "Whatever the case may be, it's this secret that has aroused suspicion in you. This is why now is not the time to keep any secrets; to do so is an act of sedition, a betrayal of Haven! How can we destroy the threat that has invaded our homes when we keep knowledge to ourselves?"
Zami turned back to Sphealo, a stern look commanding her visage. "The answer is clear. Tonight, as has been decided by the majority of Haven, you, Sphealo, shall burn."
Before the girl could react, two elves grabbed her and forced her to her knees.
"Prepare the pyre!" Zami yelled.
As the wood was secured and Sphealo was tied to the structure, she began to kick and thrash violently. A look of panic had spread across her face as she screamed and maintained her innocence, but no one was moved by the display.
A low, manic laughter pierced the din. Sphealo was no longer screaming. Her shoulders trembled as the laughter began rising in pitch, reaching a shrill, psychotic tune. "So be it!" she screamed. "I'm sick of the silence!" Her eyes gleamed with a madness far beyond the normal bounds of sanity or humanity. "Strike me down, you pathetic faeries, but you will not win! With Silence gone, Chaos rises! Soon you'll all burn in the fires of hell alongside me, and Lilith will reign supreme! Just you wait!"
Zami held up a torch, nearing the pyre. "You talk of silence," she stated, steel in her voice, "but all I hear is your vexatious voice."
She threw the torch onto the pyre, causing it to erupt in flames that quickly engulfed the laughing Sphealo. The laughter continued for a good minute longer, before the searing fire managed to lull the Hellspawn into a final slumber.
The second day was over, but the noise had just begun.
Sphealo is dead. She was a Hellspawn!
