I wouldn't be surprised. I know I actually didn't mind just catching the pokemon bc it was easier for me, as someone who hates grinding, to grind.

I think that beating Pokémon in battle is actually faster and easier that just catching it. When you battle it, you can easily just beat it with 1 move (you can even turn off the animations so it will be faster), it faints and you move on next Pokémon - pretty automatic. You can watch a movie, while also leveling up and not really pay attention to the game. But when you're forced to catch it with the GO mechanic, you have to aim and then wish for it to stay it the Pokéball (which means that you could beat several Pokémon in older games while catching only one in LGPE). I can't imagine watching a movie and also randomly swing my hand and hope to level up my team. On top of that, you then have to go to the box and release all of the caught Pokémon.

I would love to see combination of the two approaches. Having wild battle and then catch it with GO mechanic. But I would also make GO mechanic optional.

if you're watching a movie then you'll be in handheld mode right? as long as you're holding the switch all you have to do is press the button depending on the pokemon hahah. it's how i played through most of pokemon let's go.

a combination wouldn't be bad, though.

Best way to go about it is to have a combination approach such that you keep the traditional wild encounter training but add in the Let's GO capture mechanic as an extra means of training Pokémon. With care and patience, the Let's GO mechanic can ultimately lead to more XP overall(via chaining) while the traditional format would be optimal for EV training.

    20. They could just...oh, I dunno...let us choose how we'd like to play. Because player choice is the best way to cater to the majority of your audience, and I honestly doubt it'd be too difficult to implement proper--sorry, I mean, traditional controls, alongside those awful motion controls.

I will seriously revolt if there is even a HINT of motion controls in Gen VIII titles that I can't switch off, though. I want to play the game, not struggle with it =/

Fair enough. I played lets go on handheld because it was less motion. But you still had to move the switch around for those pokemon that jumped from side to side etc. Shouldve had an option to take motion controls completely off and allowed you to follow the pokemon via control stick.

    22. You could follow the Pokemon around with the control stick in handheld mode, but they didn't turn the gyro controls off, which made it very difficult to use the control stick for that unless you kept the console absolutely still...which is harder than it sounds sometimes.

Honestly I was relieved that LGPE were actually playable in handheld - which is the only way I play my Switch anyway - but they were clearly designed with motion controls in mind first and honestly it was quite off-putting...not as bad as Mario Odyssey telling you to play with joycons detached every time you booted the game up and giving you motion control pop-ups whenever you possessed something new, but still...

Oh, I didn't know it works like that. That sounds better that the whole motion control thing.

I'm also wondering, have you played with someone in the co-op? From what I've seen battles really felt like super easy mode. But I can imagine it being fun.

Co-Op mode is sheer easy mode. It basically allows you to face any trainer(including Gym Battles, Elite Four and Championship if I'm not mistaken) in a 2v1 format. Only instance where this isn't allowed is when you're battling in a double battle to begin with(aka Team Rocket). Basically if you want LGPE to give you a challenge, you'll likely want to do the following 4 things:

    1) Box your starter. It's got perfect IV's with boosted base stats compared to other Pikachu/Eevee. Gives you a huge advantage from the get-go.

    2) Don't use Kanto starters. They're already good Pokemon to begin with but the fact they can all Mega Evolve makes going through Kanto that much easier.

    3) Don't AV Train your Pokemon. AKA EV training, AV or Awakening Values can make even the lowest level Pokemon super strong. An AV trained Pokemon makes other trainers, Gym Leaders and even the Elite Four a mismatch in your favor.

    4) Don't use Co-Op mode. You'd think they'd reserve 2v1 for Team Rocket since they're evil but this makes the game even easier by allowing you to attack twice.

I'd add a fifth stipulation in not using Steel types because Steel basically destroys Kanto. Only Blaine and Giovanni give you any real pause(Bruno too but he's easily swept).

Friend of mine has LGP and I had issues not using Alolan Sandshrew in every battle. Ice/Steel is so OP in Kanto... its not even funny. I mean Magneton ultimately is the best Steel type thanks to Flash Cannon but you don't get it until much later in the game(you get Alolan Sandshrew(or Vulpix) in Celadon and immunity to Poison and numerous resistances made it too easy to dominate).

Of the two versions though, Let's GO Eevee is the best one simply because Eevee's exclusive moves yield exceptional coverage due to them being based on its Evolutions. Its too bad they didn't include evolutions post Kanto. Would have made the Elite 4 a bit harder when Agatha has Crobat and Lance has Kingdra at his disposal.

    29. I think it's a bit of stretch to call Eevee the better game on that basis alone...they're both ridiculously easy so it doesn't make a huge difference really.

Even though Pikachu got less moves the three moves it did get gave it enough coverage hahah. Though to be fair i havent played eevee yet i keep distracting myself with other things.

    31. You don't even need to hit weaknesses, really. I'm not even sure if the starters are actually killable, because every time my Pikachu came close - twice through the whole game, in fact, both from lucky criticals - it stopped short so I wouldn't cry or something. xD

If I'm not mistaken, that's Pokemon Amie, which was introduced in Generation 6 and isn't exclusive for your starter. All of your Pokemon that you train for a long time and build up a solid bond with ultimately gain that. Hits that would normally KO a Pokemon stop just short. Even moves that would normally hit are avoided thanks to that mechanic. Its like a Protect based on chance and it even affects rate for offensive Critical Hits as well. In some ways I dislike it for just that reason since it adds another layer of RNG... More RNG = never a good thing.

Main reason I think the starters are virtually unbeatable is due to the fact that enemy Pokemon likely don't have decent IV's(that matters) and very little additional AV's to their credit(feed Candy to your starter and you basically become unbeatable).

To get off the LGPE train, I watched SuMo 103 the other day and plan to rewatch it along with SuMo 102 just to confirm that the Episodes with Brock and Misty were basically a waste of my time. In a nutshell, PRB's review video kind of sums up my initial reaction:

Might recommend watching Unova and Kalos regions after finishing Hoenn and Sinnoh. I mean sure some aspects of Unova make me want to rip my hair out at times(particularly when Dawn returns for no reason other than to sell Piplup merchandise) but to be brutally honest, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Team Rocket is surprisingly decent in this series along with Team Plasma. As for Kalos, Ash comes across as being far above his 10 year old self in terms of maturity(hence after watching Kalos, you'll understand why people hate Ash's reset in SuMo).

I hold the SuMo Anime permanently in last place in regards to the Franchise overall. The series took some bold risks and even had some interesting plot lines at times but compared to what I'm used to in previous series, it just doesn't compare. Even Black&White(Unova), which I regard as the Franchise's "Black Sheep", beats it in my book. I should get around to writing an updated Top Series list at some point. I did so back in 2017 and updated it last year after the Kanto and later on Aether arcs. May or may not keep Diamond&Pearl in first place(all depends on my mood when writing it lol).
