This patch is essentially a thought experiment. How much would the viability of cards in the Base-Fossil format be affected if all of the HP values were based on the evolutionary stage of the pokemon? This is NOT a balance patch. Some cards were clearly balanced around having unusually high or...
There are no limitations at all to this engine compared to traditional hacks. But the workflow will strictly involve coding.
Pros:
-No more pointer problems.
-More organized coding environment.
-Easily edit assets like sprites etc.
-Full engine at your fingertips.
Cons:
-Decidedly not beginner...
Are the Alolan forms outside the scope of this project? I didn't see them referenced in the data, unless I was looking at the wrong files. Same for Meltan/Melmetal but he's forgettable.
With an open source randomizer, it shouldn't be that hard. Mostly address changes and changing the number of entries. It's not like the randomizer actually needs to read the astounding depth of data that goes into each pokemon. It just pulls a number from [range] and places it at [address]...
I'm cool with not knowing, for the record. It's in progress. That's more than enough information. I know what it's like to have someone reading over your shoulder while you're trying to work, so I have no intention of being that guy. Hint hint.
Have you considered randomizing the deck lists? Like replace every instance of a card in an opponent's deck with a same stage, same type card? That could make for some interesting twists in the basic gameplay. So a list starting like this:
might be RNG'ed into this:
Randomizers that make...
This tool has some amazing potential, especially with the next generation sneaking up on us. Once it can handle sprites and/or pokedex expansion it'll probably join the list of staples that pokecommunity is so grateful for. Seriously amazing work. :)
And as a lazy man with limited free time, I...
Ugh...Sawsbuck. I honestly don't like DNS, since it gives a game license to infringe upon the player's real world schedule. Granted I'm biased since I have a seasonal night job that screws up everything. >_>
Excellent mechanic FBI! I agree that this seems more Gamefreak-esque than slapping a bunch of extra "species" into the game. Otherwise Unown would take up almost 30 slots all by its lonesome. :P
So I assume by "expandable" you mean to cover the other things a form change can entail? Like...
There's no deadline and there never will be. A hack isn't something you can put on an egg timer.
Sorry to be blunt, but this question has been thoroughly answered already.
I second this sentiment. Most retired hackers and unfinished projects can be traced to a long list of obnoxious brats asking when something will be done. It's ultimately a form of harassment and should be fiercely discouraged.
Whether he decides to finish this project sooner, later, or never is...
LCCoolJ95 is working on a similar patch for Emerald. The title for the thread is Pokemon Emerald 650 but if you read some of the more recent posts you'll find that it's expanded into a 721 patch as well.
I don't think either hacker should have to redo their entire project for a port. It would...
There's something about seeing Volcanion in Emerald's dex that fills me with hope and joy. At long last I can take 721 different pokemon into Emerald's battle frontier. And kill all the things.
